For an inexpensive yet uncommonly good meal, Chautara can't be beat. The cuisine is Tibetan, which seems closely related to Indian food.
The lunch menu includes a number of dishes under $10, many vegetarian-friendly. However, it's possible to put together a tasty meal of appetizers: a flaky, delicious samosa for $2, a bowl of dal (lentil soup) for $2, and an order of roti (flat bread) for $1.
Decor is colorful and has an Eastern flair. A statue just inside the entrance sports some rather interesting appendages -- a conversation starter, for sure.
The waitstaff is friendly and efficient (there are definitely busy times of day). You'll have enough money left over to tip generously!
