Chatham Vet Clinic 2/22/2014

I think these people are good with our fury family. They work with you when it comes to payment and they seem to care about animal too. We have had the best care from them. They are a very busy clinic for animals. It is work the drive. thanks for caring for all our babies. more

The saying you get what you pay for definitely applies here. Yes, Chatham Veterinary Clinic is very cheap. However, the staff is not the least bit compassionate, and I don't think the majority of them even like animals. My first experience there was nine years ago. I took my two cats there to be spayed and declawed. One cat ended up having complications from surgery, and her paws busted open. We took her back in, where the assistant to the vet handled her horribly, and the problem wasn't fixed, and we had to seek the help of an after hours emergency vet clinic. She still till this day cannot stand for her front paws to be touched, and I believe it is because it was a botched surgery. Today I called to make an appointment for my other cat who I believe has a bladder infection. The staff member I talked to on the phone was incredibly rude. She did not ask what she needed seen for, whether it was an emergency situation or not. She instantly just said that there were no appointm more

world class vet yes, awful staff 8/31/2013

this is the sweetest most caring vet I have ever taken an animal to,I am a single mother, i work part time and care for my grandmother wich also keeps me from working more hrs. I have a disabled child with a severe heart problem and I just took in a foster child that had nothing and am not receiving help for yet. my 7yr old cat has gotten really sick with diabetes at the worst time, I have been taking him to this wonderful vet that is working with me as we can not seem to get it under the control and money is extremely tight ,unfortunately the staff has been very mean and rude about it. The last visit my beloved pet's sugar level was still not under control ,very upsetting to me and my children on the way out the girls made it very, very, clear they did not approve of the vet giving us a partial break when we are just doing lab almost weekly, these women had me in tears as I left the building ,only to have my car overheat on the way home, they made me feel about 2 inchs tall for havi more

your staff is killing you 2/22/2013

the vets are great...the staff at front desk are rude , unprofessional, and driving away business. which they will gladly tell you over the phone much of the vets business and shortcomings. and they get paid to do this ! very dysfunctional business. i just wish they could find cheerful professional staff that would run thier business right! or maybe this is the way they want to run it ? alyssa [says shes been there 4 mo] talks negative and rude to clients [especially when no one is in the office to hear because vet has apparently been in car accident last noc, venting her frustrations about her job and rude clients and driving business away. she is worse than kim who has is natzi receptionist of the group. this is almost humorous from afar except the vets in this office are really very good and i have built a longtime friendship and mutual respect with them and hate to see them run down this way by thier own staff ! what a mess. more

Best Vet I have ever had! 11/20/2012

Dr Boyce is the best, most responsible and considerate vet I have ever had the pleasure of having care for my 4 legged family members. He considers all aspects of a treatment plan, and the most effective, or economical, or stress free options, explains each to you, and together a plan for the care of the animal is made. His medical experience has saved a few of my pets over the decade I had spent in the outer Springfield area. Words could never express my gratitude for the times he had gone above and beyond the call of duty to help us. more

Most caring Vet! 5/13/2011

Dr. Boyce is an amazing Vet. When my cat was hit by a car he called me himself and had me bring my cat in on the weekend after hours even and he performed the surgery there and didn't worry about the payment. He had me pay what I could at the time and worry about anything else later. One of my other cats came down with a mysterious illness where it was unknown if he'd pull through or not. Again Dr. Boyce saw my cat when the office was closed 2 times..and for one visit didn't even charge me at all. Thankfully whatever Dr. Boyce did for him helped him to pull through! I am so thankful for a Vet like Dr. Boyce and even sent a long thank you card to him for what he does. If you want a caring and compassionate vet then Dr. Boyce is who you should go to. I really wish more Vets were like him!! He cares more about what he does than the money involved. That is truly hard to find and I feel blessed to have Dr. Boyce as the Vet for my animals! more

Chatham Vet is awesome 4/21/2011

Dr. Boyce Sr. is amazing! he gives a thorough exam and doesn't charge crazy high prices. He is very fair and knowledgable about animals. I don'/t go to the vet to sit in a beautiful waiting room and pay for their leather office furniture! more

Compassionate and caring docs and staff at CVC 4/21/2011

Our Noelle - a black lab - started coming to Chatham Vet Clinic shortly after we got her as a pup from a private breeder in 1996. From toenail clipping to shots to emergency surgeries and even on the day we finally brought her in to be put down at age 14, she (and we) was treated with the utmost love and respect by the doctors and staff there. When we lost our beautiful girl in June, 2010, she gave me a final kiss goodbye. They allowed us to stay as long as we needed to with her after she went to sleep. \r \r After nearly a year without our girl, we have decided to adopt an older female creme lab from a private breeder, and without hesitation, she will be treated by the docs and staff at CVC as our beautiful Noelle was. more

Irresponsible, inconsiderate, unprofessional 4/2/2011

I changed to this vet after losing my job (could no longer afford vet I had been using for 30 years). Place is dirty and office staff rude and inconsiderate. Would not take animal there for any kind of surgery. Only take for shots since I have multiple animals and annual shots are much more affordable there.\r \r Called a couple weeks ago when my diabetic cat was extremely ill. Even though I have been taking my multiple animals there for years now, they could not make time to see her. I had to drive 30 miles to another clinic only to have her put to sleep. I asked the girl on the phone if they had ever heard of an emergency. She didn't answer.\r \r If you love your pet, do NOT take it to the Chatham Vet Clinic. You will regret it. more

Won't be back 2/22/2011

We took our dog there for 7 years. excellent care by Dr. Boyce senior. When his son and daughter in law started working there the fees went up up up and the care went down down down. We adopted another dog that needed emergency care. They couldn't get her in for 4-5 days....unbelievable!!!! unacceptable!!!! So...after 7 years of being faithful customers we went somewhere else. more

Like all medical practices, there will be good and bad stories. \r I personally respect Dr Boyce and his staff. They are all \r professional and like me, animal lovers. I think the office deserves a kudos for all their hard work and caring\r disposition. I won't take my dogs anywhere else. Reasonable prices and kind, compassionate care. I rate them five stars plus! more

A true pioneer 2/18/2010

Yes it's true, Chatham Vet is not the most clean and fancy clinic in the area, but I have been going to this clinic for 20 years. The vets there are not only my trusted vets, but my friends also. A relationship that was made over the 20 years I have been going there. Dr. Boyce is one of the oldest and most dedicated and experienced vets I know. He conducts his business in an old fashioned, completely genuine and caring and compassionate way. He still charges people the same fees he was charging 20 years ago and is not out to benefit himself. He has a genuine love and compassion for what he does and the animals he treats. He does not turn anyone away regardless of their ability to pay or the inconvenience of his time. Of course there are times when time just will not allow him to see everyone, but he will always makes an effort to accomodate everyone, if humanly possible. I have seen this man leave the office to save a drowning cow in the dead of winter. He will stay until th more

Have you seen a pattern? 1/19/2010

Well if you have a bad review to write about this place then you might want to relize what Dr you have. Don't just say Chatham Vet Clinic because they have three doctors. Every time I had taken my dog in to this one Dr who would treat my dog & it would be better for a little while then a week later I would have to go back again then again then again. Finally I had enough & I decided to give another Dr a chance & what do you know my dog is better & is medicated properly & has no issues reoccuring like it did. So when you say Chatham Vet Clinic just remember that there is that 1 dr that maybe is making them look bad & you are just taking it out on the whole staff. The girls at the front desk have never given me any trouble in the years I have been there maybe if you can't get in it's because they have more then they can handle in one day! So sometimes you may need to go somewhere else esp in a emergency! more

We need more vet clinics like Dr. Boyce's....... 10/13/2009

i was quoted a price for my cat's spaying by Dr. Boyce's office and it was $400 !!! less than another vet (didn't like him anyway) had quoted me the day before.\r But even more importantly, Dr. Boyce and his wonderful staff, are compassionate, considerate and very knowledgeable. \r When I pulled into the parking lot yesterday, Dr. Boyce was leaning into the back seat of a car. The lady who owned the car told me Dr. Boyce was putting her dog to sleep. He is so compassionate to do it that way instead of making a poor animal have to go thru being taken into the office. Then when I came back out, the owner was insisting on paying Dr. Boyce, but he was adamantly refusing to accept any payment for his trouble. He is a very special person. \r Thank you, Dr. Boyce for being who you are.\r Thank you to Dr. Dobson for doing a great job on my cat's surgery. more

need more pride in what they do 10/1/2009

I purchased my pekingese from pass pets, they had me take him to chatham vet to get a tumor moved and they paid for it,my dog was there for 3 days before they did the surgery, then the spot became infected, and to top it all off when i called to get the records for my vet they said they had no records of doing any surgery on the dog, they are irresposible,\r and i know there vet is dirty, the vet was nice and acted like he knew what he was doing,i just think they should have better book keeping and take more pride in their work..and if not they dont need to be in bussiness. more

Excellent caring vet 9/12/2009

I have been going to this vet for decades. They care about the pets I have brought them, although they cannot perform miracles, they would if they could and they certainly do try. The charges are reasonable. I highly recommend this vet. more

Caring doctor and staff at a reasonable price! 7/28/2009

I have been going to Dr. Boyce since moving to Chatham in 2004 and while the building is not new I have found them to be some of the most caring and considerate staff I have encountered in the last 40 years. He does not have the other doctors like were once there yet he still strives to serve everyone the best he can and that takes time. Yes, his is not a Capital Illini operation but if you want a Vet who serves you the old-fashioned way at a very reasonable fee, this is the place for you. I am sorry to read of a number of others who have not experienced what I have but can understand their grief as I have seen the doctor run off to a farm to help a birthing animal (who cannot wait) and then come back into the office to see patients after getting kicked or bitten by his patient. But if you can afford higher fees for services and want to be catered to, then by all means choose someone else. I will continue to go here as he not only cares for my dogs but also respects my situation. more

No Problems in 4 Decades. 7/18/2009

Chatham has been seeing my family's pets for YEARS. My grandma used to own a farm on Curran blacktop. Doc Boyce would make house calls for her horses and their other animals, cats, dogs and geese. Then when my mom grew up and started having her own pets, she took them to Doc Boyce and the rest of the Chatham vet. Never had any problems! In fact, they have always been extremely good to our pets and I've never had any complaint. Now that I am grown, I take my pets there. I don't mind the wait for the vet. because I know it's worth it. I took my cat Chippy to get neutered and it's was both reasonable and time-efficient. They even de-wormed him and just included it in the "package." One time I had an emergency, my cat Gimpy (at the time was named Yaz, but we changed his name to Gimpy) had gotten trapped in cage and really badly hurt his leg. We took him to the 24-hour vet on Wabash and was charged out the rear end for simple stuff. I think that visit was over three hundred dollars and the more

Best vet clinic in Chatham 1/24/2009

I've been going to their clinic for 10 years now and have had nothing but the best help from them. When I was 9 my dog was hit by a car, and they did EVERYTHING possible to help her. We did not have an appointment scheduled, we had just brought her in because we were so panicked. I waited while they had 2 of their 3 available vets work on her for 45 minutes. Unfortunately, nothing could be done and I lost her. They were beyond sympathetic with me and charged my family nothing because they could not help her. That was in 1999. \r \r Some years after in 2004 I believe, I had a kitten that was born with an ear problem, and could not walk straight. I took him in and watched them make a special formula to put in his ear. That got him walking straight, but he had a large bubble in his ear still. They drained it for an extremely low price and like magic, he was cured. His ear was always flat from that problem, but that just gave him even more character, lol. \r \r In 2008 after they stopped doing more

Great Doc and Staff 10/24/2008

Our first experience with these folks was when my wife's older dog (she was like 16, and like a child to my wife, so this was a terrible time for her) had a couple stroke's, and eventually had to be put to sleep. The Doc was caring and extremely sensitive to my wife's emotional state, he was incredible, and my wife eventually got through losing her baby (you never really do, but as best as can be expected). This situation could have gone bad to worse very quickly, and because of he Doctors tone and method (just putting the dog to a state of unconsciousness, instead of actually administering the medicine that finally put her to sleep with my wife present) made the situation at least bearable. My wife never had to see her baby dead, and this was a huge factor in helping her heal emotionally. The cremated her, and gave the wife a very nice little tin, with a bow and a sweet prayer, that she keeps on her bed stand right next to her at night. The way the Staff and Doctor handled the situati more
