Charlie & Millie's Pizza House

This is by far the worst dream for me to do. Tears are flowing from my Charlie and Millies shaped eyes... Reading some time ago of change in owner and keeping a neutral and positive expectation of my slice of passion I respectfully submit to you my well thought-out report, here goes ( same posted on Facebook page of C&M). Charlie and Millies what has happened??? I have been visiting your shop ever since I discovered it over 15 years ago and has always been number 1 with me. I read the business was sold, true or not I don't know. Live in St Pete now and no longer work in Largo so no reason to head that way except your pizza. 3 Weeks ago got finished at work and headed up for a pizza, got half way there and called order in, was not even 9 pm yet. Female answered and proceeded to order a pie. Was rudely instructed you were closed already... Oh boy big disappointment so second choice was crappy hamburger. Week and half ago decided to try again ( my day off so no worries about being closed.) . Ordered half way there and was excited to eat my slice of heaven again. Arrived and parked in back as usual so I can enjoy the delicious odors coming from the pizza ovens and vented outside. Disappointing, no sweet odors... Walked in and did not recognize a single person working there ( been MONTHS since been there.). A guy with long hair and beard making pizzas looked my way and walked over and asked name. Told him and he looked and said about 7 more minutes. This guy not wearing head hairnet or beard net sweating profusely all over the pizzas he was making, sweat was literally dripping from his forehead onto pizza table, occasionally wiping his brow with shirt sleeve. Finally got my pizza and out the door I went. Loaded into car and opened box, looked inviting... Took out first piece ( usually half eaten on way home.) and ate it. How disappointing that first bite was. Crust was perfect as was toppings until the sauce is tasted, was NO flavor at all. Very bland boring sauce. What happened??? Old owner take recipes with them? Ingredient no longer available? If it was economical motivated, big mistake on your part, your loyal following would happily paid more.. Arrived home and got out of car, walked around to passenger side to retrieve pizza, felt heavy.. Opened box and realized I had only eaten 1 piece and a half. So sad this day comes when mom and pop shops, hole in the wall gems like Charlie and Millies are no longer superior than the disgusting cardboard sold only a couple blocks south and west of you. Pizza pizza ! You no longer outshine them and for the quality and cost I will go there next time, not to mention closer to my home... I hate this and am highly disappointed. Second great pizza favorite to disappoint me this month. Please tell my it was a bad night or mis mix of sauce. Give me a solid reason to come back for my habit... more

Born and rasied in Seminole,FL 38YRS. Highly recommend pizza place! I have been eating at Charlie and Mille's for over 25 years and by far the best in town. Also, great for kids becuase they have some video games in the back to keep them occupied. This company is a family owned business thanks Doug for all these years.. more

Us loyal old time customers (dating back to original owners) are hurt that the current pizza being produced is done under the name ""Charlie & Millies"". Similar to building an Edsel car and putting the name of Rolls Royce on it. The Oct 23 review of burnt crusts, toppings that cover a portion of the crust and exorbitant prices says it well. The current owners have obviously replaced the original toppings with cheaper products; IT DOESN'T WORK and it simply should not be called ""CHARLIE AND MILLIES"". more

This was our first time there. We ordered a large pizza with three items and one coke. The bill came to $19.60 For that money we received an overcooked pizza with american cheese, not mozzarella, and almost burned crust. You eat on paper plates. The mushrooms were canned, not fresh. We sat in the dining area, which was not clean with grime on light switches and floor. A screaming child was at another table and there were three early 1980's video games in occasional use. A handwritten sign near the front counter read, ""We will gladly wait on you after you finish your cell phone call."" Rather ironic considering all the noise, filth and poor quality pizza there. We will never buy from or recommend this place to anyone. It is a low class dump with overpriced, crappy pizza. more

I've been enjoying Charlie and Millie's pizza for 5 years, never had a bad pie until recently. Ordered a medium pizza for take out the other day, got it home and was very disappointed. Crust was like cardboard, almost no sauce and the cheese looked weird, like shredded American cheese had been mixed with mozzarella. Taste was bland and unappetizing. WTF? Called the store and asked what's up, what did they change, pie is terrible. Lady I spoke to said made the same as always. Did not offer a refund or another pizza. Won't eat there again. Such a shame, they used to have great pizza. more

Amusing to read some of these recent reviews that hate C&M's and then hype another pizzaria. It seems to be the way these little guys advertise now. Instead of making a good product, they try to make you think the other guy is bad. In this case, they fail. C&M's has the best thin crust pizza I've ever tasted, and no it's not fancy but the pizza is great and it's got character. more

It pains me to write this but after eating at charlie & millies for the past 30 years I have to admit that something has changed. The toppings used to make the pizza well worth the price but the quality over the the last couple of years has gone way down. As it seems, when they started offering the smaller, more affordable, lunch size pizza that the quality of everything else went down. I have been eating at this pace forever and even went to Charmels(?sp) back in the day on east bay. Pros: Down home feel Cons: it is what it is. more

Go to Publix and get a frozen pie instead. You will save money and get the same pizza.. Try Beach Pizza at the corner of Seminole and 54th for a real good pie. Pros: Nice parking lot Cons: Just plain below average taste. more

The way I order pizza from a place the first time, is to get a plain cheese pizza. A good way to test the core tastes of a pizza. I'm not sure how good the toppings are, but I bet they have a strong flavor to mask how horrible the cheese is on this pizza. Traveling for business, I've eaten pizza everywhere. This wouldn't be in my top 100. The pizza is almost inedible with their cheese. GREAT CRUST!!!! Not that it matters when you can't get past the cheese. Try Gianni's (the best around) in the Tyrone area in St. Pete, or Joto's down the street in Seminole if you want edible pizza. Pros: Nice typical family pizza place. Cons: Pizza, Long Wait more

I can not describe in words how great this pizza tastes. The alkaselzer special is the Filet Mignon of pizza. Their thin crust is crisp and perfectly done every time. Pizza Hut is right across the street from my place but I would rather drive to Charlie and Millies and pay more for this pizza!! And for the queen of cheap - that is saying something! more

I really like the pizza here! I had no idea that is was thin crust the first time I ordered from there (to go) and almost threw my box across the room when I picked it up....it was so light! But it tasted great and I loved it! We have been back several times. I do think that it is too expensive for the amount of pizza that you get. If it wasn't so pricey we would order from there more often but regardless it is great pizza! Pros: Great Pizza! Cons: Parking, pricey, and last time I was there it was cash only. more

If you have ever had a St. Louis style pizza and thought it was the best, then you need to try Charlie and Millies. It is the nearest thing you will find away from St. Louis. The place is not fancy to say the least, but you go there for the pizza. If the decor is not for you then carry out. You will not be dissapointed. Pros: Great pizza Cons: Little ambience more

Definitely a no frills place. My favorite is eating from paper plates. The pizza is just your typical Mom and Pop NY Pizza, nothing really special. more

I thought the service was just right. I had a beer while waiting for a ""to go order"" and the pizza was ready before I finished it. Everyone was friendly and the atmosphere was down home.\r The pizza crust was perfect not too thin or too thick. I am very picky about my crust. I had a veggie pizza and everything was fresh and delicious. I recommend it highly. Cons: Had to go outside to get to the Bathroom more

They do have a great pizza. I have eaten pizza all over this county and this is one of the best. It's not cheap, but when you want a really really good pizza this is the place. My dad and I started going to charlie & milles when I was in HS! We all keep coming back for the awesome thin crust pizza. Doug you have made a great place - congrats! If you are a chicagoan looking for awesome thin crust this is the place! Pros: Inexpensive, Worth your money Cons: small more

We moved to St.Pete in 1970 from Chicago, Ill. We then moved to Seminole in 1975 and found Charlie & Millie's Pizza House. They maka a THIN Crust Pizza Just like Father & Sons did in Chicago that is also CRISPY. To me that is the best there is. We still eat there when we want a Chicago style Pizza, now that I have retired from G.T.E. Pros: Reasonable, prices, Not cheap, Family owned Cons: Small Dining area, Do not change it more

The place is small and kinda hokey, but you can't get better pizza or service anywhere else that is better. One taste and i was hooked and so will you. more

From the first bite I was hooked. The dough of the pizza is what makes it so good! It is such an addicting taste, that keeps you going back for more! more
