Char is one of those restaurants that you always find yourself coming back to. The atmosphere is great, and the restaurant is very large so they are usually able to accomodate you, although you may find yourself waiting if you are unfortunate enough to arrive at a peak time. I prefer the booths, which are spacious and comfortable. I do not like the semi-circular booths that face outward though, if you feel the same way be sure to state your preference. The menu is rather limited, but everything on it is wonderful. My favorite is the pecan crusted blackfish, which is not on the lunch menu but I've always been able to get it when I requested it. The fried crab claws on the appetizer menu are outstanding, they are usually very large although I have had them when they've been on the small side. You might want to ask before you order. They are served with marinara sauce, but are also delicious with comeback dressing. Char also serves up a mean hamburger! Whatever you have for dinner, just be sure to save room for dessert. My favorite desserts are the butter crunch cake and pecan pie. Don't be fooled by the humble names! The butter crunch cake is served with a scoop of icecream and topped with a caramel sauce with granny smith apples. I passed over it for years until finally I tried it when they were out of pecan pie. WOW! I'm hooked! The pecan pie melts in your mouth. It has white chocolate chips mixed in, which makes it very rich. It is served hot with a scoop of vanilla icecream on top. Both desserts are enough to share, the slice of pecan pie is actually 1/4 the pie! Char makes an outstanding cappucino too, but it can be inconsistent. It depends on who your waiter is since they make it themselves. Speaking of waiters, Char has the best service in Jackson. Each table is assigned 2 wait persons, so you will never feel forgotten. You get the impression that the restaurant operates like a well oiled machine. I highly recommend this restaurant!
