Memphis's Best Thai 8/21/2010

I know that the Thai options in the area are limited, so being the ""best"" isn't that impressive, but nevertheless, this is one of my favorite restaurants all around. The prices are reasonable, the food is not something you can replicate at home, and the service is attentive. I like the relaxing atmosphere, and occasional piano player. I go when I'm craving a usual favorite like the Tom Yam soup, or when I'm in the mood for something different and want to be surprised. I just tried their Nam Tok Beef salad which was quite nice in this hot weather - spicy lime juice dressing on grilled beef slices. Delicious! Definitely a must try if you haven't gone. Excellent place to catch up with a friend 6/3/2009

I have visited this restaurant a handful of times this year, since it is the nicest restaurant near my office. I have found myself coming back to visit during the weekends, even though I live in midtown, simply because I love the ambiance. It's a great place to bring a book to read, or to catch up with an old gal pal I haven't talked to in ages. The food is delicious - my favorites are their Massaman Curry and the Beef salad. And the servers know when to leave you alone. Overall, one of my favorite restaurants in the city! Pros: Great food, unimposing service, relaxing ambiance Cons: Location more

Perfect 8/19/2008

I was very impressed: the restaurant's interior is gorgeous, great service - our waitress was a very personable, charming young lady - and the food is excellent - best Nam Tok I've had, in fact.\r \r Heed not either juvenile review - likely written by the same bitter individual - I haven't a complaint to broadcast here. Arriving minutes before closing warrants anything but friendly service, and, in the second, probably fictional, situation, I can only say that a customer's illiteracy isn't the server's problem.\r \r I'll certainly return. Pros: Service, moderate pricing, ingredient quality more

Dining Disaster 7/14/2008

Absolutely HORRIBLE service and the food was terrible. Went to dinner last night I ordered a glass of Blackstone Merlot from the menu which they didn't have and wasn't offered the menu to order something else. So I asked for any other Merlot they have. I then ordered the Thai Beef Salad and the seafood combination ""specialty"" which ended up being a SOUP that you could smell from across the room, not to mention the taste. And the salad was the Praya Salad which I wouldn't brag about either. As soon as he sat it down I realized that this was not what I thought I ordered and asked to see a menu and if they would take the soup back. I explained to the waiter that I thought I was ordering a spicy seafood combination in a sauce served with rice. He said that what I ordered did say soup. The waiter was a scruffy looking guy with 2 huge tattoos on his forearms that were definitey exposed. I then asked him AGAIN that we weren't going to eat the soup and if we get a menu to order something else. He went to ask someone else if they could make the dish I was talking about. He said yes but it wasn't on the menu and it was $17.95. For the third time I asked for a menu to order something we could actually eat. After 10 minutes another waiter comes over and says, ""Since it was not our mistake we can only give you a discount on the 'specialty' dish."" She doesn't ask us if we would like to order something else or anything. Again I asked her if she knew the dish I was talking about and if it was on the menu. After 45 minutes and still no resolution we are so hungry and furious that we decide to ask for the check. The waiter brings the check and tells us he forgot to add the wine. I have to tell him to put it on the check and bring it back. We had to end up paying $30 and left the dishes on the table, and vowed to each other NEVER to return to this restaurant EVER! So, long story short.. Pros: Pretty Decor since you will be there a while Cons: Horrible service, disprespectful managment/waiters, food was not edible, way overpriced more

Horrible Service - Disgusting waiters covered in Tatoos 12/1/2007

We found this restaurant on this site and called them at 9:30 pm to see if they were still open and told them we would be coming right over. They told us they were and so we drove over. We arrived at 9:40 pm and the 'Open' sign was still on so we went in. When we arrived no one greeted us although employees were there. \r \r We asked to be seated and were told they were going to close and that they didn't want to serve us. This is AFTER we called and they told us to come over. We explained to them that we had called and were told they were open until 10pm. The reply was that we could order out and that was it.\r \r The service was awful - the guy who told us this at the restuarant was covered in Tatoos and absolutely disgusting. The fact that they told us to come over and then changed their mind and turned us away - even though they were ""Open"" for another 20 minutes was VERY UNPROFESSIONAL. We ended up missing our chance to eat anywhere because of them.\r \r DO NOT GO THERE!!!! Cons: Awful Service and Rude Employees who are lazy and don't want to work more

Incredible Taste of Thai, Simple, Fast and affordable 9/18/2006

I just had their chicken (Gange Koa Koong I believe)...I've travelled the world North America, South America, Europe, Asia and Live in NY...I've never had such a tasty and yet not overly filling lunch. I will continue to go here until I can't take it anymore. After waiting a few seconds (after the 1st bite) I had to continue eating...it is just that good.\r \r Definitely would recommend...plus it is very open and clean. Pros: The chef cooks with a genuine flair for taste and spices Cons: It is just for eating and not a fancy restaurant...albeit clean more

great place for something different! 10/24/2005

moving to memphis six months ago from san francisco, where every block has at least one thai place, i was dying for some good thai food. having tried the places downtown, i was reluctant to come here with my friends, having decided that this town couldn't support a truly authentic thai place. instead, i found a charming restaurant with friendly servers, and excellent thai food. boy am i glad i came... the tom yam soup, is just the right mix of chilies and lemongrass, the curries perfectly seasoned as well. my pick would be the panang curry. definitely going back soon! more

The Best Thai In Memphis 12/10/2003

Don't let the odd location fool you... this place is fantastic. The Thai dumplings are the best appetizer, in my opinion. The curries contain wonderful, intricate spices and flavors, followed by a slow, sneaky heat that is just right... hot enough to tickle your senses but still somehow subtle enough to allow you to taste all of the other flavors in the dish. Pair these with the Schmitt-Sohne Blue Riesling for a perfect combination of spicy and sweet. I have not had it, but I have been told the duck is amazing as well. Just go!! You'll love it! Pros: Great food, Excellent service, Quiet more

Go Soon, Go Often 8/2/2003

Very authentic Thai food. We've tried most of the dishes, and they are all very good. Love the sticky rice with mango dessert. Surprisingly good atmosphere. Service is attentive and professional. Highly recommend it. more

Superb in Every Way 7/16/2003

Chao Praya is my favorite restaurant. It provides a great atmosphere, unparalleled service and spectacular food. The most recent time I went I had a special called the Pattaya Surf, which was a beautiful and delicious dish featuring three types of seafood and an assortment of vegetables. Served with rice and cooked to perfection. Both the menu and the specials are amazing! Pros: Nice Decor, Great Food, Wonderful People more
