Need More Animal rights for the pet owners 9/3/2007

I had my 4 pound Chihauhau stolen from my yard August 24, 2007. My chances for getting him back are slim to none and slim is on vacation which saddens me because he does have health problems and the longer he goes without proper food and his medications, the shorter his life may be. When I called 311, I was told that I have to check out leads on my own which I do. If I do find him, the person will never be prosecuted because it is a ""I found him...."" I do not have a lot of money but I have spent the last 10 days walking the streets of a city which is not safe inquiring about a pup that no one cares about but me. And when I get him back, I will most likely have a small fortune on vet bills to safe his life just because someone thought he is cute for now and then he pees or misses on something and they kick him which could end his life. Now this person got away with stealing a dog, what is next, a child because it is the next bigger thrill. If this person would have been found and prosecuted for stealing my dog (or anyone elses), it would hopefully end any career he was thinking as a criminal and there would not be any more to his story. But it continues for me because I am one who cares about my critters and worries. I check animal control, lollipop farm, animal league as often as I can on top of going to work monday through friday and this week, I start school and still hope to find my pup. If the person who took him turns him out into the street, and animal catches him (I pray that it is a possibility), I have those fines to pay even though he was taken from my yard. Pet owners do not get any breaks, help, or someone who cares in law enforcement when their pet is stolen. People need to realize, taking a pet and not turning him/her over to proper authorities is a criminal offense but because no one wants to charge them, they get away with this and this is why there are many pets to be adopted, they were stolen and released and never found by their owner. more
