I guess I'll answer for RAWGIRL, because she's probably tried to wipe her memory of this place. All these reviews are absolutely true. They will literally tell you anything to get you to sign. One of the locks to a front lobby door has been broken for almost a year, and they refuse to fix it for some reason. The elevators still break every week or so. They had a bed bug inspection over a month ago, and I just saw someone's stuff wrapped out back last week. The landlord is aware of this, but no notice has gone out. An older woman said her apartment had been broken into, a tenant got mugged in the back parking lot, damage and break-ins to cars in the rental lots that the landlord owns on each side... NOT A PEEP from the management about any of these occurances. If there is a way to take your money, this landlord will. Just about every business in this buiding has failed, and they'd like to blame it on the buildings across the street, but I've heard directly from one of the failed business' owners himself that they immediately tried to drive the rent up. If I was the manager, I'd be bitchy too. She's just the messenger. The building maintenance guy is just in way over his head. The owner/landylady is the real source of all evil. She will squeeze you for every penny you have, and then donate it to a political campaign to further her own agenda. I'm sure she has her claws in this new Senate Bill 179. Seriously. BEWARE. Unless you go somewhere else, you WILL get screwed at some point. more

RAWGIRL\r Im recently signed a lease 5/2/2012

RAWGIRL\r Im recently signed a lease with the chalet and im moving in soon. I have seen some very bad and disturbing reviews. are you still liking the chalet? more

Wow why the bad rap? 9/8/2011

I have a loft on the 2nd floor. I selected a unit with floor to ceiling windows, hardwood floors and a retro black and white checked floor going on in the kitchen. I love the location and the loft is way cool. \r \r I just moved in last month but have good reviews. While I was at work the management had my oversized heavy packages brought up to my unit by the building maintenance man so that was a huge help as I could not have lifted some of them. Also when I finally turned in my check-in sheet the maintenance man fixed everything on the list the next business day. I did not get the new doors that I requested but I did not think I would. It has not been noisy for me however the air conditioning is louder than I would like but it is an old building (part of the charm). I will check back in 6 months from now and let you know how it is going but for now it is thumbs up. \r more

They will screw you, guaranteed. 7/26/2008

SCUMLORDS! The management will lie any chance they get. They say one thing, then do another. They break numerous WI laws and I believe they have been cited for them on a few occasions. They will screw you over any chance they get! Also, the apartments are freakin loud, the garbage trucks come ever monring between 4 and 8 am, and it is way louder than you would ever believe. DO NOT LIVE HERE! They will say anything to get you to sign and lease and then they will back out on all of their promises. \r \r \r I am an honest, hard working person and I feel was taken advantage of from the second I signed the lease until the second I moved out. Pros: The location is cool, but you can find something better Cons: This place is the worst in Downtown Milwaukee. The owner is absolutely bonkers, more

horrible terrible and not good 3/15/2008

Horrible experience, you have to fight with them for any little thing because once you sign and they got your money, they wont do anything for you. the ceiling was stained and pealing from leaking water and I had to push and push to get it painted, it looked terrible. the place is so bad that they are strapped for time and wont fix your stuff because your place is already rented. the front office girls are bitchy and the maintenance guy is always acting like hes looking for a bribe to ever do any work in your place. they overstate the square footage of the apartments. the laundry almost never works. Ive never given so much money to someone and been treated so poorly in return. The elevators are constantly breaking. the cleaning guy doesnt know what clean is. they have been in many lawsuits over leases and yet none of it ever shows up on public record.. why? the owners husband is a powerful judge and that kind of connection can make anything go away. the place is about 50% vacant, but they wont tell you that, they make it seem like theyve got a few openings. theyll even leave the names of the people that have left on the mail and buzzer up to make it seem more full. having guests over or pizza deliveries is a total pain, guests often cant find parking or gotta pay $5-10 just to visit you. the outer doors are locked at random times in the evening and the apt door buzzer is located behind locked doors... i dont know about you but i smell a polish joke.. who puts the doorbell on the inside behind the locked door? they are advertised as new york style lofts, the only things new york about them is that they are overpriced and run down. so if youre looking for that authentic feel, like in the movie coming to america, try it but youve been warned!\r pros: the location is good. some views are good. you still get your mail on time. more

Worst experience you will ever have - Renter Beware! 4/16/2007

lived at Chalet on the River for 2 years 2000-2002. I moved from out of state and found the apt online, sight unseen. My mistake. But I made the best of it, putting in about $1,000 in redecorating and a completely new paint scheme. According to Terri and Bonnie (owners/managers) it was a 'showcase' apt. Then I lost my job and had to move back home (out of state). I tried to sublet the apartment, however the locals know all too well how this place is run and I had no success. At the time there was about a 50% occupancy rate. I remember very clearly going into Bonnies office and trying to negotiate a lease buyout. I offered $2,500 (all I had to my name) and she said ""We will ruin you and your credit"" and had Frank (who I loved) escort me out of the office. On my way out I warned her not to shut the larger of the 2 elevators down on my move day as this was a common practice for management when people had to move out. See folks this is a city ordinance violation as it is a fire hazard to shut down perfectly running elevators in an effort to punish tenants. So I called the City and they sent an inspector right away. This ticked off Bonnie to no end, but I did get my elevator for the day. Now it's 4 years later and they are suing me for breaking my lease. If you think this will go away it won't. These people are evil money hungry spiteful people. If they say they will ruin you, they will. Their family is connected to a large law firm in WI and they have tons of money in which to make sure you pay monetarily and emmotionally. They don't need your money, it's more a game for them. Please beware when thinking of renting here. Pros: located on the river Cons: management, tenants, laundry facilities, parking, smells, poor condition, not safe, mold in units more
