Yes, this place gets crowded and maybe the seating isn't as quick as one would hope, but the the food was amazing. The ingredients are SO fresh. The steak was cooked perfectly. Th...

SOUR IS RIGHT! 1/27/2003

I really wish I didn't have to write this. I am an avid fan of eating out. I have lived in San Francisco for 10 years, and before that in New York. I am used to good food, good service, and in return, I am used to leaving a great tip. Unfortunetly, at this establishment, my expectations fell dramticly short. I'll keep it short but not sweet- Service: rude and incompetent; food: decent, not great; ambiance: attempting coolness, unoriginal; Wine: decent. more

Honest Review 1/24/2003

I went to this bar on the recomondation of a friend. The food was o.k. I know tasty tapas and these did not rate. I was also surprised with the service. It felt as though I was supposed to be the one waiting on my waiter. I don't think, as one contributer suggested, that is is the place for 20 somethings. The atmosphere is snobby, not sophisticated. I felt that my bad service was a direct result of my young appearance. Unlike my friend, who is much older, I would never recomond this place. Pros: location more

Great place to chill 1/19/2003

I've been there twice in a month, and I just never got sick of the food there. Even though food might be overpriced there, it's still an enjoyable experience. I don't really want to rate the service because the first time I went there, it was just bad. The second time was much better. I guess it really depends on the person serving you. But I still recommend this place to my friends. Remember to try the mushroom dish - fantastic. more

Sweet food and sour grapes... 1/12/2003

We have been to Cesar many times, primarily for the tapas (not the exotic drinks). We have always found the food to be creative and very good. Unlike a few reviewers (or one disgruntled reviewer) the service has always been great! We cannot believe the owner(s)/waiter(s) could find time to make comments about the diners in this busy establishment. Sounds to us like sour grapes... more

ambience, yes. food, no. 1/2/2003

I went to Cesar on new years eve on a good recommendation from a colleague. The service and ambience were actually very good (I had read/heard horror stories about terrible service) and the menu did look somewhat creative... however the selection was a little on the gamey side. Nevertheless we ordered a good selection of various cold and hot dishes. While the food wasn't terrible; the creativity and, more importantly, the taste experience of each dish fell short of our expectations. The food was also a little overpriced for the the quality of dishes. The wine by the glass selection was decent, but not as extensive as I would have expected. On a positive note, it seemed like a good place for a groups, and possibly a good place for very young 20 somethings to try something different. more

the worst!! 10/21/2002

I went to this place a few months ago and recieved the worst treatment of my life. I used to be a regular here, but I guess the $150 or so I would drop wasn't enough to buy me anything more than rudeness and contempt. After being overcharged, talked about, and insulted I spoke to one of the owners. He was the worst of the lot. Instead of trying to resolve a situation, he was more intrested in expanding his ego. This place is a disgrace! more

Good atmosphere, limited selection 8/23/2002

Cesar had good atmosphere, but very small dining area. They try and pack lots of people in a small space. If you are looking for intimate setting, this is not the place. It is very loud. The food was pretty good but the selection is somewhat limited. There are no real 'main entree's' just the small selection of tapas. The wine was good. the service was good, the olive's were to die for. Overall, I left somewhat hungry for a main meal. Picking at their selections were like having just appetizers for a meal. Pros: Great olives, many cocktails/wines, decent food Cons: Noisy/crowded, parking stinks, packed together more

Great Tapas place 8/21/2002

There's nothing like a great place to unwind such as Cesar. Don't come here expecting to load up on food as the food is meant to be snacked. Wine selection is great and the Majito's are the house specialty. Can't go wrong with their Martini's either! Pros: easy parking, friendly people, great bar selection Cons: pricey more

good place 8/16/2002

the tapas are tasty, the people are nice, and they have the biggest bowl of olives I've ever seen. My experience was nothing like the previous negative reviews. more

Terrible!!!!! 8/9/2002

The worst service I have ever had! The manager was extremely rude. I was ignored, overcharged on my bill, and given dirty looks. I also overheard the waiter making rude comments about my ordering abilities. I would never go back! Pros: nothing Cons: terrible service more

Horrible experience! 6/29/2002

The service at Cesar is so extremely horrible I almost don't have words for it. The exterior gives the illusion that this is a classy place, but once inside and slapped with the realty that the staff and owners are apparently to occuppied with themselves to even give you the time of day, you will quickly be heading for the door. If you decide to stay and have a drink make sure you check your bill! I have been overcharged the few times I have been there! EVERYTIME! Cons: expensive, horrible service more

Tasty tapas 5/27/2002

I've been a fan of Cesar for quite some time, since my days as a student at UC Berkeley. Eating at Cesar was, and still is, a special treat. The tapas are superb. In the many times I have eaten there, there is maybe one dish I didn't enjoy. You can't go there without having the salt cod. My mouth is salivating for it as I type this. Also, the wine and liquor list is absolutely amazing. True, the service can be a bit spotty at times, but what can you expect for a tiny restaurant that sometimes has 20+ people waiting to munch on the delicious tapas? Just be patient, it's worth it. Pros: Food, Value, Can try many dishes Cons: Crowded, Parking hard at times more
