Delicious! 10/27/2011

I love centro. The best time to go would be for their brunch! They have a really delicious menu and it's affordable food. My parents aren't from Boulder and I took them there and they were raving about the food for hours after we left! Ha. Make sure to check it out next time you're on Pearl! more

Poor Attitude 9/24/2010

I don't normally do this but decided to create an account so I could warn folks about the elitism that this restaurant exhibits. They have a Happy Hour but unless you plan on ordering a full mean they will not seat you at a table. We had a group of six that were forced to sit in a lineup at the bar because all we wanted were Happy Hour drinks and food. The only way we would be given a table was if we orderd full meals. There are plenty or other good Happy Hour places in Boulder and we certainly won't go back to the Centro. They have cost themselves at least $100 last night since we decided not to buy any Happy Hour food and we left immediately after Happy Hour was over. Any they cost themselves a lot more since there are at least 6 of us who will never return. more

One of the best/unique breakfasts in Boulder 5/12/2010

Since Centro introduced breakfast a few months ago it has quickly grown as my wife's and my favorite weekend brunch (close second to Jill's Sunday brunch at the St Julian). If you haven't been there, wait until a warm weekend morning and grab an outdoor table! Watch out as when they say some of the spices are hot, they really are! Pros: Authentic South American flavors and atmosphere Cons: Pearl Street parking more

Centro serves up authentic Latin-American flavors 5/8/2010

When the former owner of Rhumba decided to move on, he asked Ian Clark - then Sous Chef at Jax Restaurant - to take over. As Clark began learning about Caribbean Cuisine, he became more and more interested in Latin-American flavor profiles. Clark was not, however, new to Latin-American cuisine. He started to flirt with Latin-American flavors during his stint in southern California where he fell in love with Mexican cuisine. After shutting down operations for a few months, Executive Chef Ian Clark emerged with Centro Latin Kitchen & Refreshment Palace. The most popular dish on Centro's menu would be tacos, inspired by the tacorillas and taco stands Clark saw in southern California. They have four varieties of tacos: shrimp, vegetarian, duck, and pork. Customer can mix and match flavors as well. The Shrimp Tacos are light and fresh, served over cabbage, red onions, and tart escabeche pickled radishes. The Duck Mole Tacos have a slight Indian flavor profile. The duck is leg is braised, pulled off the bone, and then mixed in with a house mole that has been cooking for 8 to 9 hours, made with dried chilies, toasted garlic, toasted cumin, and dark chocolate. Every taco is topped with imported Mexican jalape?os, and with some cool sour cream. The jalape?os pack a little more heat than usual, which is no surprise considering Clark has a high tolerance for spicy foods. So keep the sour cream close by to help cool your taste buds. Clark stated that there is nothing better than just eating a few tacos and washing them down with a nice light beer. Centro's menu also has a Charred Ahi Tuna fusion dish that combines Clark's experience in Hawaii with his love of Latin-Americna flavors. The Charred Ahi Tuna is served over sweet potatoes glazed with piloncillo Mexican raw sugar, and topped with a hot cucumber salsa inspired by bread and butter pickles, Mexican Pico de gallo, and Korean hot cucumber salad. The sweetness of the potatoes is a nice counter the spiciness of the cucumber, and the saltiness of the ahi tuna actually balances it all out. Clark recommends pairing the dish with their Capirinha made with cacha?a rum, sugar, and lime. Centro is the perfect place for foodies looking for authentic Latin-American ingredients. wow the bar manager is a great friend and bar tender 10/30/2009

try this bar tender..besides her ""saccarine"" free drinks made with organic---thoughtful ingredients she always has something nice to say about everyone! This bar is so busy with people devoted to seeing the bar manager..everyone has been lined up---its even busier since it was the much loved Rhumba! Pros: always says the nicest of things about her patrons Cons: never knows when to stop saying wonderful things more

best brunch and latin food in Boulder 12/12/2007

To the guy who posted a review about the Rio- you are right about THAT restaurant.. So please put that reveiw on their ad. But leave Centro alone, as it is the most scrumptious and fairly priced place on Pearl Street. The chef here is a star in the making. Try the affordable brunch on Sat and Sun. The fish and potato enchalada is amazing. The white hominy griddle cakes are perfect. The bar tending and staff- perfect! My taste in food is everything from Mountain Sun to a Bobby Flay restaurant. If the flavors are creative and put together well, than you are eating at the right place. Please go and experience Centro! more

Fun atmosphere, very good food 9/25/2007

I am wondering if the person in the previous review was talking about Centro. If you read the review, it seems that he or she meant to review Rio Grande and accidentally posted it on Centro's page. Anyway, I took my parents and husband to Centro last night, and we all loved it. The food was great (the whole tilapia for two was out of this world) and the drinks were wonderful (and - beware - very, very strong). I will definitely be back! more

Try at your own risk 9/19/2007

I don't ever do this and I created an account just to write this review. I would have to say this was the worst meal I have ever had. The service from the waitstaff was good but the manager was far from it. My visit here a year ago was an exceptional one, so when family from all over the states came for my younger sisters wedding (she is 27), they wanted to visit boulder. I did not hesitate to recommend Rio for a nice dinner. To my surprise the food was aweful (2 of my nieces actually cried) and when the manager came by to see if everything was good I told him ""honostley, the food is horrible"". He walked away without ANY RESPONSE nor did he try to make things right with us. Hmmm.. so why even ask if you did not get an answer you should be ready for. I was super embarrased I brought in a party of 15, they are lucky I even gave them one star. If you want great food and great service in Boulder, go to Frasca! Your $400.00 will be well worth it there. Pros: Waitstaff Cons: Everthing else more
