Best

I love the Center for Puppetry Arts -there is no place else like it. The Center offers incredibly innovative live theater with the bonus of a museum of puppetry and hands-on work...

Worst

My family went to see a show in late Aug.2008 (Ugly Duckling) and we were only a couple minutes late but the theater was a packed full house. There were a few seats separated fro...

Hit or Miss. 10/14/2005

First the good: My children loved the experience. We've gone three times, and all of them would love to go again. Now the bad: The first performance, a re-telling, of Cinderella, was fantastic. It just blew us away. It was also an anomaly, I've found. Most performances don't use the entire stage...that is, most of the stage is blacked out and the puppets are in a contained space. The Cinderella performance we saw used the entire area...and we loved it! All the others were much smaller in scope, and therefore a bit of a letdown. more

Very unique 10/11/2005

I don't know if there are other performing arts halls like this one elsewhere, but I've never seen one. Everyone should see at least one show here, it is wonderful. Best bets are fairy tales and well known stories. They did the Jungle Book and it really blew my mind. They used the entire auditorium ceiling as the jungle canopy. Wizard of Oz, Charlotte's web were good also. There is so much attention to detail given and this is not an art you get to see very much of. They also have a puppet museum as you are walking through to either see the show or leave. It's amazing to be able to get up close to some of these really intricate pieces of movable art. Parking, like anywhere in Atlanta, isn't great. This is located in the midst of a few one way streets so have a care that you don't miss your turn or you'll go a bit out of your way. more

Really a Neat Place 9/27/2005

I never imagined that I would visit the Center for Puppetry Arts until my husband's company held an after hours party there and we had the run of the center. It is really a neat place and somewhere that kids would really enjoy. They have an impressive puppet collection which is on display, as well as activities for kids. Puppet shows are a given, and they have a very nice, large theater that they also use for shows. The center is pretty modern, lots of windows let light into the main areas and it is a really nice atmosphere. I'm not sure about admission, since we were there for a party, but it would definitely be somewhere to take the kids. Parking is available on location and it is conveniently located in midtown. more

One the finest arts institutions in Atlanta 8/22/2005

The Center for Puppetry Arts is one of the few "must see" attractions of the entire metro Atlanta area. Regardless of your age, there's probably something here for you. With a constantly changing roster of shows for children and adults (including many puppet artists from around the world), don't hesitate to give them a try. In addition, they have two small museums on-site (at the center) - and both are worth exploring. The museums are usually open an hour before a performance, giving you plenty of time to explore both at your leisure (entrance to the museums are included in the price of your performance ticket). There's even a nifty puppet gift shop on site too. more

Very interesting place! 8/21/2005

The Center for Puppetry Arts is a very interesting place both for children and for adults alike. They have children's shows, and they also have some shows geared towards adults. I have taken my first grade students on a few field trips there, and they have always been a lot of fun. They puppeteers even show you how they put on the show when they are done. They also hold workshops for children. The prices tend to be a bit high, so be prepared! more

A Unique Local Treasure 8/20/2005

The Center for Puppetry Arts is an internationally recognized theater which just performs puppet plays. As you can imagine, a good deal of the shows are geared towards children, but it also has a lot of shows for adult audiences. In 2004, I believe the AJC's theater critic thought Atlanta's best play for the year was Avanti da Vinci. The annual Spooky Puppet Horror Show is a must see. more
