I went to Dr. Johns for a second opinion after being diagnosed with moderate/severe dysplasia as severe dysplasia is stage 0 cancer. My doctor had done two in-office procedures to remove the affected cells and I had been given the all clear, but I wanted to make sure nothing else had to be done. Dr. Johns agreed with the treatment I had received, but as we were leaving the room he said, "If it comes back again, you need a hysterectomy," and then walked away to see his next patient. I was very upset that he did not explain himself further. I talked to my regular doctor and he did not agree, saying that cervical cancer is very slow moving and can be treated without that extreme. It's been years since I was originally diagnosed with no recurrence, but at 26 hysterectomy was not a word I wanted to hear, especially with no explanation or discussion.
