BEWARE! 1/2/2017

My mother and sister were admitted to Cedar Crest with injuries recently. Although most of the staff are wonderful workers/caring people i.e. James, Benny, Norma, Adeka other people's names slip my mind (with a few exceptions one being Haley), we found there to be very poor communication with staff in general and changes of shift. The place looks nice on the inside and outside but try to get help to go to the bathroom!! You have to wait an average of 20 minutes (not too bad) on a good day and at LEAST 45 minutes on a bad day. Sadly, we found this place to be short staffed or working at a bare minimum almost everyday making the wait to relieve oneself unacceptable. The staff and nurses were often times confused as to how to set up my mom's leg in her bed. Per my mom's surgeon, she was told that her leg must be elevated on a pillow. But, when family and friends would visit staff needed to be reminded or seemed confused as to what had to be done for her basic needs so she could HEAL after her SURGERIES! When I spoke to nurses about issues/concerns the messages didn't get relayed to CNAs. It was not only frustrating but frightening!! The dietary department also kept sending the wrong meal/beverage requests to my mom. I had to speak with at least four staff members and dieticians at least two times over the phone before my mom's choices were to her liking. This place has a lot of potential. I was hoping to have a great experience especially since it's a nursing home located very close to where my family and I reside. We had several other issues (my mom almost fell twice, reusing ace bandages over and over again instead of changing them on an already infected leg). This was our experience at The Cedars. Management if you are reading this, more staff on duty is a MUST for BASIC care and reminders for staff to communicate with one another is a MUST so doctor's orders are followed properly. Basically, not having enough staff to do important jobs in health care is unacceptable. more
