Experience with CD Depot - please read 8/1/2007

I contacted them via phone to determine how to 'dispose of' about 500 CD's I haven't listened to in years (MP3 thing... :)) and the young man was quite helpful. When I showed up, I took 10 sets in for a 'test run,' if you will, the young 'lady' was quite "whatever, I don't really care" attitude based. She took my offering, placed it in a container #8 and said give them 10 minutes and check at the back counter. No problem. I mulled around for about 20 minutes and checked. Same girl, NOW at the back counter, said they couldn't use any of them, terrible shape etc... 1/2 were still in shrink wrap with the metallic seals, the others had just been opened and recorded to MP3 the night before. I did observe, she didn't even take the time to look at them. So I went elsewhere - CD Game Exchange on Lehigh Road, by UMD. NO PROBLEM there... huh!?!!?! I also noticed CD Depot's prices were rather high for used product, especially compared to down the street. They do spend more on packaging and promotion, but that's the cost of doing business - not the cost of suppliers AND customers. So, see Bud at CD Gameexchange. 301.887.1370, that's my opinion, and I'm sticking to it. I am sick and tired (sound like mom, huh!?) of poor customer service! more

VERY wide selection, good prices 1/28/2006

The CD Depot seems to cater to a mostly college crowd from the University of Maryland, but I find that curious because the music collection is extremely varied. Whenever I'm looking for a cd by an obscure artist, or even someone who's passed away, they always seem to have it. (Example: the full collection of everything ever recorded by Phyllis Hyman). Used CDs are mixed in with new ones, and all are priced accordingly. But don't let the used condition scare you...you can't tell the difference. No fancy listening stations here, just lots and lots of music. Actually, to be honest, the selection is HUGE. You'll come in looking for one thing and get sidetracked by everything else they have...reggae, jazz, whatever you're looking for. They also buy used CDs, but only on certain days of the week, so you'll want to call ahead and check. more

You could spend days here 11/5/2005

It would be so easy to drop into CD Depot and stay there for several days. There is just so much here! They have a fantastic selection of used CDs; it is a music addict's dream. They have music in all different genres and enough to satisfy anyone's tastes. They also buy old stuff; just make sure that a buyer is in before you show up with three dufflebags worth of your old music. Also know that they won't take everything, in fact there is a lot that they won't take because they already have too many copies or do not like the condition of the one that you are trying to get rid of. They also have some CD players stationed in the store and you are allowed to listen to any of the used CDs to decide if you like it before you actually buy it. Prices are pretty good for the older stuff; the new releases that have never been previously owned go for about the same prices as you'd find at other CD shops. more
