A nice place to meet new people... Drinks are a little pricey

Final disappointment... 3/22/2012

I've been to Cavo a couple of times before with my husband for dinner and hanging out. The food is excellent, truly amazing. And the decor is extraordinary! This is a beautiful place, if what you are looking for if dinner and a overall ambiance. For hanging out however it's a different story. First while Security is on point, they can use some people skills. The guy at the entrance by the coat check was a total Prick, he seriously needs to relax and learn how to deal with the public. Completely rude, I was standing briefly to the side and he basically kicked me out although there were people ahead of me trying to check their coats, what was I suppose to do skip the line? Once inside I felt like I was trapped in a warp, I like oldies but the last two times I've gone back to middle school days with their music selection, time to bring in some new stuff. Try listening to the radio, that'll help. After a while of being there one of the one Security staff tried starting trouble with one of our friends asking why he kept looking his direction, no a**wipe he was looking in the direction of the bar trying to get my husbands attention. And to make matters worse, we had a pregnant friend and cigarettes make me sick and they allow people to smoke inside in the back close to the garden but nonetheless inside the premises. When we asked Security why didn't they do something about the smokers, they just ignored us. Horrible experience, never want to go back. more

Very Nice Place 3/8/2011

Great atmosphere\r \r Service is Hit or Miss\r \r Food is over rated\r \r Not traditional Greek by any means but Greek inspired or a Greek Novo (if such a thing exist)\r \r Great place to hang during the summer but it is during this time that it can get very crowded. more

Very nice place butt 12/8/2010

Decoration nice, food great, but the line at the door sucks, I notice that they have preference, if you have 20 minutes in the line waiting and people that they know get there, they just let it walk in... Specially if you are white, high class dress top, buying a bottle... They are racisttttt! Something that is not allow in New York city!! more

Fun place 7/30/2010

I found out about Cavo from a friend of mine, decided to do my research and after reading more about it thought I would give it a try. Best decision I made! My inquiry e-mail received a super prompt response which was impressive. I totally had the reservation taken care of. As to the real stuff, cocktails were amazing! Every song the DJ played provoked a crazy reaction amongst my mates. The crowd at Cavo is simply fun loving just like all the staff that work there. will definitely be back. Pros: staff, music more

Not worth writing a review but had to 6/7/2010

Went for a birthday party this past weekend and my friend ordered the family style package(prix fix). We had 25 people in totaly for our party and they only had two waitstaff assigned for us(you could imagine how long it took it get a fork). We had a greek salad (good), meat balls with cheese (bad), small chicken kebabs (good) and pita with three different dips (completely disgusting) as our starters. Our entrees consisted of dry steak, fishy salmon and ravioli that was too bad that was all sliced for about one small piece per person. Than the waiters took our coffee/tea ordered and which we received way after our dessert came out.\r \r Than about 1030pm after we paid our bill ($2768) they quickly broke down our tables to make room for the late crowd. Overall this place is catering hall like that tries to be a restaurant/dance club. BTW the crowd is completely crude along witht he management. Pros: outside garden Cons: bad service, ugly crowd, bad food and overpriced drinks. more

Nice Place, Bad Service 3/22/2010

I went to Cavo on Saturday, March 20th with a friend for the first time. We got there around 9p.m., hung out in the garden area for a while and had some drinks there. Later we moved to the front bar with drinks in hand. I gave my credit card to the bartender to hold and ordered one more drink. We spent the rest of the night in that area, but someone else we met at the place bought us the next drinks so I didn't use my card for the rest of the night. When I was about to leave I asked for my card back and the bartender refused because I didn't purchase the ""minimum"". I was ready to go and didn't want to argue. I ended up buying a bottle of water and beer that we did not want in order to get my card back. We will never ever go there again. Also, the music was the same all night and nobody was dancing. Pros: Nice looking place Cons: Bad Service more

Juicehead Overload jumping females 2/7/2010

I live in the city, so I don't really go out of here. Last night, I had a dinner party to attend at cavo. Afterwards, we were in the bar in the dining room. The crowd was mediocre, but their were a couple of really beautiful women. In particular, 2 hot women dancing around...near us..of course we were trying to initiate conversation with them, as every other man around them. Not sure, really, what the problem was, but out of nowwhere, the gestapo came running towards our area and towards these women. What the hell is that? Watching the women for close to 45 minutes, I didnt see any problem with them. Im curious do the staff and management always gang up on females this way? The two women ending up moving to another area and disappeared shortly after. I have an idea as to why all of this happened. To the two women - If by any chance you ever come across and if I ever run into you - I will offer you my legal services. If any of those ""thugs"" were to grab you or if that ""other woman"" would have succeeded in her attempt to come after you, I would be more than happy to assist in a law suit. Michael. Otherwise, the place wasnt too bad. Maybe it is my age, but Im not used to seeing ""staff"" come after 2 beautiful women or any woman like that - their behaviour just seems criminalistic! Shame on you staff! Pros: good looking females Cons: watered dwn drinks thug criminal looking bouncers more

What happened to Dj on Saturday Nights 1/10/2010

I used to hang out at Cavo in the fall on Saturdays,There was this dj dont know his name(an older gentlemen). His mixing and music selection was amazing.I ask the bouncers and they dont know if or when he will be back. This past sat it was like listening to a bad house mix cd. Boring house music all night long. Please bring back my favorite dj. Pros: Nice Crowd Cons: Music Same old Same old more

Exceptional food disgraced by pathetic service 1/1/2010

Having been to Cavo a few times over the years I have never been as impressed as others seem to be. This year when my fiancée and I saw that they were offering a New Years Eve tasting with chef Richard Farnabe we decided to give Cavo another try. Aside from the food, every plate loaded with exceptional tastes and combinations, the service reminded me why I will never waste my money there again.\r \r When we made the reservation over the phone for the early seating we were told we would get an email confirmation and credit card request so we could prepay. When the email never came we stopped by one night to pay cash in advance and we could tell they had no record of our reservation. The tall bumbling manager and young hostess repeatedly called us by the wrong name and clearly had no idea what they were doing. On New Years Even when we arrived the same young hostess ignored us and others waiting in line because she was too busy chatting with a girlfriend about where they got their dresses. I didn’t care if Forever 21 was too expensive of a shop for her, I thought we were owed at least a little attention having paid $100 a pop. Seated we tried to put the immature front desk staff behind us. We ordered a modest bottle of Prosecco and our waitress, without showing us the label, opened and poured a bottle of champagne at least twice as expensive as what we ordered. Before I could say anything she was gone. I know she caught her own error because I heard her mention it to the bumbling manager at the wait station so I kept quiet curious to see how they would resolve the situation. Well, apparently honestly and professionalism aren’t part of their training, if they are even trained at all, because she never mentioned her mistake. For them maybe ignorance is bliss, but I think that is how you lose customers. We decided to drink and enjoy the champagne and chef Farnabe’s amazing creations, which we did, but already I knew this was my last meal at Cavo. The owner and chef both came over to our table and introduced themselves and it was a pleasure to meet them both, but quite simply it was too little too late. The icing on the cake was when the waitress brought the final bill and credit card slip and forgot to add the gratuity in as she was supposed to so she asked me to do it for her. She said it was her first mistake of the night and we were both very tempted to remind her that it was actually her second. I have never stiffed a server but boy was I ready to. I know the restaurant business well and am happy to pay good money for good food but that service, that was ridiculous! Never again. \r Pros: chef Richard Farnabe Cons: everything else! more

Throw a special event at CAVO! Guaranteed crowd pleaser! 11/17/2009

My fiance and I recently threw an engagement party here, where 15 immediate family guests ate dinner in the loft area in the main room and 60 guests arrived later from 8-11pm for hors d'oeuvres and cocktails. We had our first date here at Cavo, and we wanted our party to be equally romantic! The dinner with all the family was served family style and they kept the wine flowing. The portions were great and for the price ( for parties prix fixe) you can't beat it! The service from all the waiters was excellent and everyone complimented on the dinner and food for days! The cocktail hour for the rest of our friends was held near the front of Cavo behind the bar. It was a 3 hour open bar, and the ONE waitress could not have done a better job! She was simply amazing and remembered everything we ordered, and always seemed to find the person who ordered without a problem! I worked with the event coordinator Anna Kazas on this party, and she did an exceptional job! Our engagement party couldn't have been more beautiful, delicious and fun! I WOULD HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend this place for any special event! Pros: Delicious food, and AMAZING ambiance! Cons: Music is more european more

GREAT MUSIC/FOOD 11/9/2009

""Great time"", that's what I say EVERYTIME I leave Cavo. \r I have ate there and partied there and still left there with the same experience. I was there this past Saturday for a friend's 30th birthday and had a great time! The beautiful patio wasn't as packed as it is during the warmer once, but that didn't stop the crowd. The music was INSANE as usual! Alittle mixes of everything, the DJ really knows how to keep the crowd moving! The people were having a great time which just adds to the atmosphere,\r I have read some on the views and just laughed to myself. The napkin throwing bothers some of you?!?! COMON!! Live alittle LOL\r The food is alittle pricey???.... you pay for what you get and everytime I have ate here, it has been EXCELLENT... \r \r So 5 star rated... a great first date also!!! ENJOY!! more

Great Ambiance & Music 10/28/2009

Definately one of the most chic club/lounges in Astoria. \r Why go to the city, when Cavo is right here in Queens. Its spacious and there is always fast service for food or liqour. I've been going there for 2 years. The new DJ there is one of the bests. He really know how to spin for the crowd everything from techno, to pop, to reggae. The place during the day is also a great restaurant. You get a good deal of stuff for the price. Pros: no admission fee, no hassle on line, fast bar service Cons: none really more

Music was Awesome 10/20/2009

I was there this Past Friday and Saturday....The same dj was there both nights and the music was amazing\r .i will be back this weekend. Pros: Good Music Cons: To Crowded more
