Lory is one of the main reasons I go to the Cat Dr. 10 years ago when I started there, I was so frustrated with my current vet, so I called TCD. I spoke to Lory and made my appt at the end of the day so the vet could take as long as necessary to diagnose the problem. I really appreciated her kindness and the rest of the staff is wonderful. I've been going for 10 years, have taken countless cats there and I couldn't be happier with their service, their diagnoses, the time they spend with each client. It is very difficult for me to believe the negativity of the other posts. They have always gotten me in for an emergency and as far as price goes, they are in the ballpark for all vets in Boise. I will never go anywhere else and I drive 30 minutes to get there. In my opinion, they all walk on water. more

Many pets. Many vets. The Cat Doctor is second to none. 12/19/2009

I noticed a large open wound infection the size of a 50 cent piece on my cat's side due to a knot in his fur ripping off (he is getting older, and doesn't groom his long coat as well as he used to, and refuses to let me come near him with clippers, scissors, or even a brush. He's made it clear he'll fight to the death if I ever try). I first called The Cat Doctor. The receptionist seemed nearly as concerned as I was! But they didn't have an opening right away, so I opted for a clinic I had never been to that was right down the road, and had an opening almost immediately. Bad idea. I waited in a junky waiting room In a run down building for 40 minutes, while dogs filed past to get shots. I ended up walking out, knowing now that quality was worth the wait, and the extra $7 for the appt. I called the Cat Dr. back, and they got me in 45 minutes later. When I walked in, they greeted my cat by name, without the need for introductions, and sent me straight back to the room. The vet, Tara Kobl more

After 12 years, they are still the best for my cats 9/19/2009

I have been going to The Cat Doctor since they opened in 1997. Having 5 cats, over the years they have had their health problems. Never once have I ever had a bad experience. They have several vets who are all compassionate, knowledgeable and professional. The other staff members are warm and caring to both my cat's and me. The staff is so "cat savvy" and can handle even my most aggressive cat. A real positive note is that they don't separate you from your cat by "taking it in the back" to draw blood or do other tests. The doctors are thorough and skilled in talking about medical issues in layman's terms. Actually, I know and understand more about my cat's health conditions than I know about mine. When thinking about prices, I believe you get what you pay for, and The Cat Doctor is worth every penny I've spent there. I don't have any pet insurance on my pets, so I have to expect to pay full price for lab tests. Remember, if we didn't have health insurance, we'd be paying so much more fo more

Negative Experience 4/23/2009

My cat had lost a lot of weight and I took her to the Cat Dr. She was totally freaked out being there as she is not cat-friendly to other cats at all and did not feel good. It turns out she is in renal failure. My experience with the doctor was okay, although she did make me feel that going without expensive treatment would be a bad idea. I agreed to monthly medication and special food totaling $90.00 per month.Six months later, I called for a prescription refill. The receptionist was the biggest witch (with a capital B) that I have ever dealt with. She was heartless, mean, and refused to allow me to speak to the doctor. She insisted I bring in the cat if I wanted more medication. I told her I would not do that...it's too stressful for the cat. She basically told me if I wanted my cat to die I could do whatever I want. I finally called back later and was able to reach the doctor who authorized the refill by phone. When I went in to pick it up, everyone at the reception desk was glaring more

Great Vet, Great Staff, Very positive experience 10/22/2008

Dr. Tara Koble treated my cat who had kidney failure and she was great. She's compassionate and knowledgeable and told me about several treatment options the first vet I saw didn't even mention. The visits and tests were expensive but I don't know how they compare to other vets in area because I didn't go anywhere else after coming here. The front office staff and technicians are friendly and professional also. I would definitely recommend this clinic! more

They're the best! 10/16/2008

I'm reading the negative review that are online here, and I don't understand. I took my cat because she was very ill. She had a liver problem that cats can get if they don't eat. The doctor addressed first and foremost, the best treatment for my cat. It was costly, but with bloodwork, and IV for fluids, medications, and nursing care, I opted for this plan. The alternative would have been cheaper, but sadly, it would have been iffy for survival. Either way, if I didn't do what was needed, a long, slow death for her was in store. I just cannot see how those other 2 reviews could be completely correct. All I've seen is loving care & concern from the staff. I was able to visit as much as I wanted when my cat was hospitalized. I'm very pleased with them. more

Heartless 5/21/2008

I took my cat there after an altercation with another cat. He had a huge hole in his chest that was leaking pus and they refused to see him! Are you kidding?!? I couldn't believe it! I decided to give them another chance and take my other kitty there a couple years later and I have never seen her act like that with any other vet. They did NOT make her feel comfortable or relaxed at all. I didn't have a problem with the prices but will never take my cat there again due to their heartless nature. more

The best cat care around... 4/21/2008

I take all three of our cats hare and absolutely love it! The vets and technicians handle my cats with kindness and care and the entire staff is very friendly. I agree that the prices are a little higher than other places, but I consider that a small price to pay to get the absolute best care for my cats. more

Expensive, tactless, and heartless 12/21/2007

I took my cat to this clinic for vomiting and dehydration. The receptionists were friendly but I wish I could say the same about the vet. Bloodwork and x-rays cost about $300, which I was fine with. The vet was polite and carried out the tests (which basically said nothing) and recommended we leave my cat so they can give her an IV. The estimate for these charges was $1500. Considering that it cost less than $100 to get my cat spayed (an operation vs. an IV!) I was understandably shocked by these charges. As soon as the vet saw my shock, she said, "Well, you're a new client so you can't pay in payments, do we need to talk about euthenasia?" I was disgusted by her lack of tact in this matter, as well as her lack of discussing other options, such as medication, etc. The people who run this hospital love cats, but I'm pretty sure the particular vet who saw my cat loves her Mercedes even more. more

too expensive for me 6/22/2006

I recently took in my cat for vomiting constantly and the Cat Doctor saw my cat right away ... he was in pretty bad shape and I appreciate the care they took to get him back on his feet again, however within 48 hours I had a very large bill and still didn't know what was wrong with my cat ... he is back home with several meds and still is not feeling good ... and I had to pay "in full" before leaving the office ... and even was mentioned that I could put him to sleep as an option to a large bill ... not exactly what a cat owner wants to hear...they are excellent with cats but be prepared to pay before taking your cat home. PROS: Good with Cats CONS: Too expensive and not very payment friendly more
