TERRIBLE. Took mower in after hitting tree stump. Told them not to install mulching blade as I bag cuttings. A week later, I got a call saying the mower was ready. Went in, paid quite a bit for repairs, then got the mower and ticket. They were out of high lift blades so installed a mulching blade as instructed not to and as was written on the ticket. Then they informed me, the mower wobbles quite a bit because the crank is bent. Why was I not informed before repairing (actually, they performed no repairs since they installed the wrong blade) as mower is useless. I would then have paid for troubleshooting and written off the mower. Now I have to go buy a blade to replace the one they installed if I even want to use the mower which they agreed wouldn't last long. None of this is rocket science. more

I think this place is great. They are a small company trying to please a huge customer base. They have always been professional with me and have done great work on my items. People are complaining about their service, they've got a new service manager and he is good to the man arguing that so if you haven't been there recently you need to check it out again. And the 5 dollar charge is funny, quit calling them so much, they have to stop what they're doing just to answer your phone call and just imagine a lot of other people doing the same thing, if they have to stop then your stuff is on hole, right? I like this place, I recommend it to everyone more

It's Always the Gas! 4/20/2012

I'm done with these folks. They just rebuilt the carburetor on my lawn tractor for the the second time due to "bad gas". After the first rebuild several years ago, they explained that I needed to stabilize my gas over the winter. No problem, that was good advice and I've done that every year since. This time around, stabilizing my gas over the winter apparently wasn't good enough. When my tractor wouldn't start before my second mowing this year, after they maintenanced it this winter for a cost of $300+, they agreed to pick it up and bring it back to their shop to take a look. A week later they called and said I owed them another $200+ as they had to rebuild the carburetor, etc, due to "bad gas". They never called of course to discuss the charges before they did the repair, they just charged ahead, called me about the bill and said there was nothing they could do. I told them several times that I wasn't happy but all I got were the "bad gas" explanations and that "stabilizing might only buy you a month or two". If that is true, then no one should ever stabilize gas over the winter and they should always run leftover gas through their car in the fall. Personally, I think they have found a great way to justify expensive mower repairs at their customer's expense. I'm going elsewhere, I just don't trust these guys any more. Service manager rude and non-communicative, and more... 6/21/2011

I'll denote this company as "COS". COS picked up my lawn tractor (MTD Yard Machine) for repair ($20 charge). As it turned out, the engine needed a new short block. The charge for discovering this was $60. I researched prices for a short block, and considered my options. I came into their store and looked at new units. I also shopped around elsewhere. I found the replacement short block with MTD and considered repairing the existing unit. In the end, I decided to buy a new tractor and sell the MTD. I placed an ad to sell the MTD ($200 asking price) and I bought a new tractor. A buyer contacted me who was willing to buy the MTD and take on the repairs himself. I called COS to settle up the charges ($80) and arrange for my buyer to pick up the MTD there. COS (service dept.) told me that they scrapped my MTD. Steve was rude in his tone, told me this was my fault, and that COS were within their rights. I asked why COS didn't just call me and tell me they were getting ready to scrap my unit. I got no answer to that, just a repeat of their policy and that this was within their rights. I took over a month to make my decision, and I realize that was a long time. I was unaware of their policy, and it was not stated to me verbally. At the very least, a phone call or voice message giving me a chance to respond would have been decent. I feared they might charge me for storage, but I didn't imagine they would SCRAP MY TRACTOR without even communicating with me! This is not professional or even decent behavior. more

The worse service in Indy. 5/29/2011

Took my push mower in because the self propel went out. After 2 weeks waiting picked it up took it home. The belt on the self propel broke first time out. Took it back Steve said " You didnt tell me to check the belt" . I just assumed since he had the belt off he would check it. Mistake #1. Then he tried to charge me for a 2nd service call. He was the rudest man I have ever met. more

Great Experiences (That's PLURAL) 4/19/2011

I have been doing business with Castleton Outdoor Solutions for over 10 years and have always had great experiences with New Sales, Parts and Service. Scott and Steve purchased the business years ago and have really made an improved difference. I normally do not write reviews but after reading the two negative posts I took the time to create an account so I could express my sincere satisfaction with this business. I have referred many friends and family members to COS and have not once had any negative feedback! Keep up the good work guys! more
