Persian Gem! 9/21/2010

I've been coming to the Caspian for 15 years (before the incredible remodel) and absolutely love it! The food is fantastic and I've never had an issue with seating or service. The only thing I would improve upon is the hummus which is thick, pasty and not very tasty. That is my one and only complaint and it won't keep me away. The kabob's are the best around. I love that you can request a grilled tomato/onion to accompany your meal. more

Delicious; Something New & Interesting 2/21/2010

I had a gyro with a side of torshi and found the meal to be an overall hit. I ate the torshi on the pita bread they serve, but I'm not sure they always bring out pita bread unless someone at your table orders a meal so I'd just ask... The gyro meat was very delicious, but I expected it to be in a pita sort of bread (it was served in a tortilla type bread). The food was very delicious though and the staff was friendly and really open to questions about the menu. I was really unfamiliar with Iranian cuisine and really couldn't pronounce anything on the menu, but again the staff was really helpful. Pros: All around good food Cons: Slow service; not great signage more

Great family owned place 11/1/2009

I had the Shish Kabob, excellent. Can't wait to try something else next time. We went before the Gopher football game. Less crowded than the typical Stadium Village bars. Pros: home made food, nice service Cons: no signage out front more

Consistenly Great Iranian Food! 10/14/2008

Great Iranian food (Persian) with a nice atmosphere and Iranian music playing softly in the background. Clean and updated a few years back with a little market on one side for a small variety of shopping - including Iranian CD's & DVD's. Pros: Consistently great food - excellent quality, Iranian music adds ambience. Park in back Cons: No coupons, sometimes there's a wait list. more

good food - nice owners and staff - nice atmosphere. Browsing the deli after dinner is always fun. Every review site says it's closed Sundays - but they are actually open (closed Mondays). Pros: nice people, nice decor Cons: service can be a little slow more

One of the best places in town. 1/7/2008

I used to work at the Caspian, however, I also worked at a million restaurants in the cities so I do not feel I am that biased. I have not been back in a long time and I went the other day. The food was fantastic. One of the perks of Caspian is that all the food is fresh-NEVER FROZEN. It is also incredibly healthy, although that is partly a result of the generally health middle eastern diet. In addition, I know from working there, the place is spotless. The owners make sure every inch of the place is spotless constantly. Anyway, I love the food. Try the sabzi or geihmeh if you are feeling more daring. They are terrific. I saw some of the reviews said the service was bad. I had good service so I can't complain. Of all the restaurants I have worked at, this restaurant and Babalu are my favorite. Worst Service I Have Ever Had. 10/31/2007

The Service is Terrible. the waitress was rude and hostile when we asked questions about menu items. She then sat at a table across from us chatting with another waitress the whole time. When we asked for more water, she ignored us for 20min and then left and we didn't see her until the bill came. I used to be a waitress in college and I tip at least 30% but I left this girl 1 dollar. She's lucky she got that. I refuse to go back. The food was decent but not worth the terrible service. Awesome Food! 7/16/2007

I first started going to Caspian when I worked in the area in 2000, and my boss took me there whenever we went to lunch. I loved the Chicken Koubedeh and the salad dressing they use for their side salads. I haven't been there for a few years, but have had a craving for it several times. Very friendly staff, too. Caspian is truly a restaurant that I can't seem to get enough of. I've been coming to this place since I was 8, when it was even more of a hole-in-the-wall than it is now (no sign and no lights and only one room--the back extension was recently added), but I've kept going back ever since. The kebabs are fantastic--my favorites are the koubideh (ground lamb and beef), choobideh (ground chicken), and the barg (filet). The rice crust is also great when they have it! The tea is great also. If you get a chance, hit up the grocery store for some Bulgarian feta (pungent, but fabulous), lemon-flavored almonds, and dates. A lot better inside than outside 2/14/2003

When I first came to Caspian, I wasn't even sure, I wanted to come in. Place looked really unimpressive (to say the least) from the outside. But when I came in, I was pleasantly surprised. It was really clean and well decorated. Food is pretty good and very cheap. All waiters are friendly and helpful. I've visited this place several times since and never been disappointed. The only downside, they don't serve any alcohol, but you can bring your own, and they'll supply you with glasses. Pros: Great Food, Friendly Service, Cheap! Cons: Parking, No alcohol more

I was charmed by this lovely Persian restaurant east of the river on University. It IS difficult to find: it is opposite Baker's Square, and the parking lot is on 25th. The food was all lovingly prepared. Persian is a delicate cuisine that is not spicy but instead very fragrant. It is not one of the ""great"" cuisines, and I do not think one could eat it every week, but it should be tried. It is sort of a refined Middle Eastern. The deserts should not be skipped and the cookies, on the other hand, reflect one of the world's great baking traditions. The number of distinct dry cookies Iranians can prepare is amazing and unique. One part of the restaurant that one SHOULD visit often is the attached grocery, probably one of the best gourmet stores in the Twin Cities. Pros: food, parking, service more

Quite a find! 7/31/2002

Hard to find (no sign) but truly worthwhile! Everything is delicous, especially the desserts. I recommend getting a big group of friends and ordering 6 or 7 dishes and splitting them - allows you to try all the great food! more
