Phenomenol choice 6/8/2011

This really is one of the best kept secrets anywhere. I have driven past the shopping center where Casalina is and never knew that it was there. I have even eaten at another place in the same shopping center. The food is extraordinary and the service is great. This is a place you definitely need to check out. Everything on the menu looks great and it's hard to make a decision. When you go you definitely have to try the Tiramisu. more

The Best Italian Food in North Carolina! 5/23/2011

I’m from New Jersey…where you not only lived around many Italians, you enjoyed some of the best homemade gravy ever! Access to a vast variety made life in NJ amazing. After moving to NC about 18 months ago, I began to become seriously disillusioned about finding quality dinning options. I was at a point that if I were subjected to eating at yet another chain restaurant I would scream! Then a colleague heard my cries and told me about a little hidden gem called Casalinga Ristorante Italiano Restaurant. I was of course doubtful, having been disappointed by the local Italian choices that claim to be from the NY area or the best in Raleigh. Well I am proud to say, Casalinga Ristorante Italiano Restaurant is by far the BEST I’ve had since coming to NC and takes me on an emotional trip home when savoring each bite. Thank you Casalinga Ristorante Italiano Restaurant and please keep cooking. more

Awesome Gem! 10/13/2010

One of the best kept dining secrets in Raleigh! These guys do it right. Authentic Italian food, reasonable pricing, excellent service! The kind of place you can once-twice a week and never get tired of it! more

Best homestyle cooking Italian in Raleigh 10/1/2010

Tucked in a shopping plaza off of Capital Blvd., you may not even realize an authentic taste of Italy awaits you. From the decor to ambience, you have just walked into the owner's, Carlo, grandmother's home and kitchen back in Sorrento. Its simplistic rustic charm, decor and elegance takes you to the old country. As a born and raised New Yorker, I understand authentic regional Italian and this is it. No bottled sauces here and the meatballs are to die for- made fresh daily. If you crave an experience to excite the palette and senses then this it. Staff is friendly, courteous and accommodating. Hidden Gem! 8/4/2010

My favorite Italian place in Raleigh! Great service and fantastic, delicious food! I highly recommend the Chicken Casalinga. Their tiramisu is the best in town. You won't be disappointed! more

OH MY GOODNESS !!!! 6/20/2010

Oh Heavenly Days! The food is stellar and the service was fantastic! Our server, Rola, was delightful and did a great job! The food was fresh and the depth of flavor was unbelievable. My husband said the clams casino were so good he thought he'd cry. :-) He also spent several weeks in Italy and had many wonderful meals there. But he said that the food at Casalinga is still the best Italian food he's ever eaten. And the bread? OH MY! there were delicious garlic knots, wonderful Italian bread, and something I can only describe as little soft, delicate, light, puffs of nirvana with what I think was maranara sauce baked on top. The Veal Casaling and Chicken Casalinga were phenominal, and the portions were so big we each had enough for at least one more meal in our doggie bags. I chose a side of pasta to go with my chicken and the maranara sauce on it was wonderful! It was enough for ANOTHER meal by itself !!!! DESSERT YOU SAY?? HOLY COW ! The limoncello cake was light and creamy and heavenly! The tiramisu was the best I've ever eaten. I've tried tiramisu in many other places and just never really cared for it. But the Casalinga tiramisu converted me forever. My husband also had tiramisu in Italy from a little neighborhood bakery outside of Rome.... Carlo's tiramisu BLEW IT AWAY it was SO much better. The food was so terrific at Casalinga's we thought we'd died and gone to Heaven. But thankfully, we didn't because now we can go eat at Casalinga's again !!!! Pros: Can I put TEN STARS !!! Cons: I didn't find it sooner!!!!!! more

Our very favorite italian restaurant 4/20/2010

Usually crowed restaurant seating and lots of families with kids is NOT my kind of place. Somehow Casalinga makes all that work. The fun, friendly feeling in the dining room is contagious. The food is to die for. The service never less than great...and frequently is a genuine delight. The breads are beyond words and will live in your memory for years. Everything on the menu is superb. I think their veal is the best to be had anywhere in the triangle. And by all means finish up with a cappuccino and cheesecake. One small quirk...they charge you extra to 'eat in' if you order pizza. Don't let that one catch you by surprise. Pros: Great food, great atmosphere, consistant Cons: None for me! more

No Place Like Home ""Cooking"" Casalinga ! 4/10/2010

I travel all over the country for work and also have been to Europe. I recently had a meal with my wife at Casalinga and I have to say that the food Carlo makes at his restaurant is the best on the planet ! Really, I can cook myself and anyone that eats at Casalinga will admit that Carlo has a gift. I think he should change the name of Casalinga to "" Smack your Momma"" I italian restorante , but I know the italian mothers would be offended.\r Rich O Pros: The Best more

Great food and the best bread 3/8/2010

We went there for the first time last week and I was very happy. The food was great. The service was very good. The chef agreed to make the soups with vegetable stock for us. That was just the beginning. The bread came out next. They give 2 kinds of bread. One with a marinara sauce on top. The other was a plain but extremely soft bread. The food was great too. The pasta with Vodka sauce was the best. The portions are great too. We had a small issue with the bill and the owner came around fixed it immediately. I liked that they take care of the customers very well. I will definitely go there again! Pros: The best bread we have had so far Cons: Slightly pricey. Not a student place :) more

the straight talk on casalinga 3/7/2010

i've been going to casalinga for a couple of years now. it started with a business lunch buffet and progressed into going there for dinner. as someone who likes variety, i have been to nearly every restaurant in raleigh that someone recommends as good for one reason or another. as a result i can truthfully say that casalinga is my number one, first choice for any occasion, whether for a business lunch, intimate dining experience with a friend or dinner plans with a small group. the lunch buffet is the best i've found and very reasonably priced. it offers ""high end"" selections not found on most italian bufffet's and there is great ""depth"" to the flavor and texture of each item. carlo has put a lot of thought into this area of his business and it is very evident in the product. the dinner menu is extensive with traditional favorites as well as house specialties. i try something different every time i go and each new meal is my new favorite. if you are looking for an authentic, rich italian experience with the very best food at a price that appeals to even the most frugal budget, then you must go to casalinga. Pros: the total package italian dining experience at a great price more

Excellent Customer Service 3/2/2010

If excellent customer service is what you strive for in a outing, you would need to find Christina. This waitress goes above and beyond her duties as a waitress. She completely makes sure her customers are taken care of to the fullest extent. If you want a pleasing and satisfying experience, I would highly recommend getting her as your waitress. Pros: One good Waitress more

Food was tasting good, but the service was bad 11/8/2009

The server was ok at the beginning, but messed up my friend's dinner order (the chicken pizza was missing all other toppings except chicken!). he then seemed very reluctant to make another pizza and just offered to bring all other toppings separately as a side. Another friend of mine had asked for hot sauce and had to ask 3 more times before being told that they had run out of hot sauce and that he would have brought it earlier if he had it!!!.. In the end, the check had a ""share"" charge of $ 3 for three of our dishes.. when we asked about the share charge, we were told by the manager, that we were given more food because we asked for our dishes to be split in 2 and the server was actually doing us a favor by not charging us for an entire order. Sure enough, there was no mention of the share charge on the menu. the manager did finally take it off but added a ""generous"" gratuity to make up for it..... all in all, we didn't mind the food so much, but were quite disappointed with the service we got.. Pros: Food Cons: Service, Restaurant location more

GREAT FOOD FAST FRIENDLY SERVICE 10/1/2009

My family been there several times never been nothing but impressed with the flavor of their Meals. Service is good and attentive. Place is a little pricey but sometimes we pay more for things that we view as good. Pizza is just ok.. stick with the pasta dishes! Pros: Flavor and presentation of food Cons: Little Pricey more

Hidden Find 9/20/2009

My friend and I ate here last month and the food and service were excellent. We were turned off by the location at first (being located in a strip mall off Capital Blvd.), but once we were inside, it was a totally different atmosphere. Inside the it was was very cozy and nicely decorated. Pros: Great Food, Cosy Enviroment more

Great Family Run Busines 7/12/2009

Even though Raleigh lacks an authentic Italian restaurant I like Casalinga. It is located in a low end strip mall but I keep going back because the food is great! I lived in Italy for 2 years so, I am comfortable with this type of atmosphere which is quite comfortable on the inside. It is a bit pricier than comparable places like Cafe Luna. If you live near Casalinga take advantage of taking out a pizza! If you like a more romantic place where you can walk to other bars and shops after the meal then go to Vivace in North Hills Mall. Pros: Great dinner, pizza, service Cons: location, pricey, same tomatoe sauce used on too many items more

Wonderful food 6/29/2009

The first time my friends brought me to this place I thought it was going to be horrible. We pulled up to this strip mall and the outside of the restaurant looked mediocre at best. But once inside you totally forget the outside! It's very comfortable and laid-back inside. The food is amazing! I think it's funny to read some of the reviews that say the food is okay. Those reviews are probably written by the people that rave about Olive Garden. THIS is Italian food! I highly recommend it! Pros: Food Cons: Location more

Don't judge a book by it's cover 3/19/2009

Dining in a strip mall has not always been my idea of a romantic dinner, but once you walk inside, you will feel enveloped in Italy! The walls are covered in photos of celebrities that have eaten Carlo's food. The tables are quaint and the bar area is really nice. I especially enjoyed the Caprese salad - it's hard to find good tomatoes this time of year. I had the seafood linguini. There must have been a pound of linguini on my plate. Enough for 2 and the fish was delicious. Carlo the owner was VERY hospitable. It's nice to walk into a place where the management greets you like you've known them all your life. This is a ""hidden gem"" and certainly worth a try. Pros: Ambiance, Service, Food Cons: Location more

Garlic Knots...YAY! Food.....naaaahh:( 3/15/2009

If you like garlic knots then this is your place....if you like Italian food try somewhere else. Food was way overprice for the quality of what arrived in front of me to eat. My entree was supposed to be spaghetti carbonara, but it was spaghetti floating in ""milk"" that basically tasted like alfredo sauce. If dragged there fill up on garlic knots, beer and have a salad! Food was great after I had the time to fix it at home, so if you must be sure to take a portion home and redo it there. Pros: Garlic Knots and Tomato Bread Cons: Entree's way overpriced more

Can't get enough 2/14/2009

We just recently moved here from the NY/ NJ area and my family came to visit last week and so I made a reservation for 25 in their back room. I was amazed when ALL our food came out ontime, it was all hot -our drinks never went unflilled - and carlo, the owner was great. He came into the dining room about 10 minutes after receiving our food to make sure that everything was ok. After dinner Carlo surprised all of us with free dessert! How awesome. He really went out of his way to make sure that we had the best experience possible. After dinner I noticed that he is a Five Star Chef and has his certificate on the wall. Although this was our first time eating at Casalinga it wont be the last! My family from NY told me they are coming to visit in about a month and begged me that when they come to town - Casalinga is the place they want to go. more

Mmmmm. Goooood 1/28/2009

Looking for a "" GREAT AUTHENTIC "" Italian food? Casalinga is the spot! When i first relocated to the area all I heard about was the hidden Italian secret. I finally experienced it for myself. Casalinga is very warm and friendly environment, food always fresh and cooked to perfection. Very attentive staff making sure your experience is great. Huge portions and reasonablly priced. I recommend it highly. Pros: plenty for the money Cons: needs more than one location more
