In 1967, E. Pat Carter, Jr., launched the first private practice audiology establishment in the state of Indiana. In partnership with several ear, nose and throat physicians, Pat developed an unprecedented reputation in the Fort Wayne community and throughout the state as one of the premier audiologists and private practice hearing aid dispensing groups servicing the needs of hearing impaired individuals.
In 1988, Dr. Mark P. Carter joined the practice and the company began expanding their hearing aid dispensing services into neighboring communities throughout northeast Indiana and northwest Ohio. In 1997, Pat and Mark joined a large ear, nose and throat practice to help expand their audiology and hearing care services. The company's name changed several times while on its way to becoming the largest audiology and hearing aid dispensing practice in northeast Indiana.
In 2009, Pat and Mark stepped out again, relocated and established "Carter Hearing Clinics, LLC". They have continued in their distinctive qualities and unequaled philosophies regarding patient care, integrity, and small business rapport with their patients. These qualities and attributes have distinguished Pat and Mark and their colleagues and staff from all others in the area of patient care and the consequential results of patient satisfaction in the field of hearing rehabilitation.
Carter Hearing Clinics also welcomes Dr. Jennifer L. Wagner to their group. Dr. Wagner is also Board Certified in Audiology.. HEARING EVALUATION
To determine your hearing sensitivity,we conduct a diagnostic hearing evaluation. We begin with a Threshold Audiogram. Generally,narrow-band noise or pure-tones are used to determine the softest level you can detect in each ear at various frequencies or pitches.
Word recognition testing and other special tests may also be conducted to further evaluate the auditory system. This information is used to help determine the type of hearing impairment,the possible location of the impairment,and the necessary means of treatment and/or rehabilitation.
In some cases,the test results and/or particular symptoms will warrant further evaluation of the auditory and/or vestibular system prior to the beginning of the rehabilitation process.
HEARING AID SELECTION
Binaural amplification is recommended for bilateral hearing loss to reduce the detrimental effects of auditory deprivation. It will also provide better sound localization,help improve your ability to understand speech in noisy environments,and help to process overall sound more efficiently.
Several styles of hearing aids and levels of technology are available to improve hearing. The styles include: In-the-Ear (ITE); Behind-the-Ear (BTE); Behind-the-Ear Open (BTE Open); Receiver-in-Canal (RIC); Completely-in-the-Canal (CIC); and Invisible-in-Canal (IIC). The type or style of instrument is generally based on the hearing evaluation,the anatomy of the external ear,the life-style of the individual,age,etc.
