Awesome accordion teacher!! 12/16/2010

I've been wanting an accordion for years and finally bought one. I am so glad I found Sarah! Being over 50, learning a new instrument can be extra challenging. Sarah has all the patience in the world! As a teacher myself, I know what it takes to be good. She's the best. She's not only very encouraging but also has a gently way to correct me when I mess up without making me feel like I'm a loser. I just know I'll be playing a polka in no time! Sarah is awesome! more

good teacher! I don't feel nervous 12/2/2010

When I was at home in my music room I would try and sing these original songs of mine. Sometimes my voice would sound great, and other times it wouldn't. Sarah helped me sort throught all that, and help me with what I was doing right, and what I was doing wrong. I was self concious and uptight about singing in front of people and she's helped me with that as well. I didn't want to be on American Idol or anything I just wanted to sound like myself and sing some of my original songs. She has a real casual space and is easy to get along with. more

She gave me the skills I needed to learn... 11/19/2010

I love Sarah as a teacher. She's really approachable and breaks down elements of how to learn an instrument in the best way. No matter what, I never feel like I'm in over my head. She figures out the best way to teach YOU. I never feel like I am wasting my time or money, and trust me, before Sarah, I went through several teachers. Now I'm learning how to play the accordion, an instrument I never thought I'd be able to play. Lesson by lesson I'm getting closer to reaching my dream! more

Sarah rocks! 11/18/2010

Sarah does rock. I am a music teacher with young children and Sarah has helped me tremendously with stamina, confidence and increasing my range so I can comfortably sing higher and be in the key that the children can sing in. I have noticed a huge improvement in my singing and the strength of my voice when performing with my band too. Im even starting to write songs that I never would have written before because they are in higher keys than I used to be able to sing in. All in all, Sarah is rad, kind and smart and she makes you feel so comfortable and capable no matter what kind of music or singing you do. You will love her! more

Sarah is an incredibly gifted teacher! When I began working with her, I had very little music and singing experience. She was amazing to work with and helped me increase my vocal range, learn proper breathing techniques, and master songs for my auditions. Every session is both fun and productive. She is an awesome teacher and this is definitely her calling! more

  • Welcome to the Carpe Vocum Music Studio. My name is Sarah Cawley and I teach people how to make music!

    At my Portland, Oregon music studio, I cater my teaching to your singing, piano and accordion interests and abilities. My students range from musicians in cool rock and pop bands, they are recording artists, and persons interested in starting or joining bands.

    Or even if you just want to sound great around the campfire, I can help you too! My vocal students learn how to embellish the things they like about their voices and make them sound unique.

    At Carpe Vocum Music Studio, my instrumental students learn both how to control the keyboard, but also the theory needed to understand the instrument. I also work on creating a whole performer, from stage presence to microphone technique.
