Best Chili Dogs and chili fries 5/13/2010

The Carney's Dog is a dining experience. I don't know why I always see lines at Pink's, Carney's hot dogs - and chili - and fries, for that matter, are superior.\r \r I always get a Carney's dog with cheese and chili cheese fries.\r \r Pick a dark, smoky dog that's been steaming for awhile. A little mustard and smothered in chili, topped with cheese, a light sprinkling of chopped onions and a thick slab of fresh beefsteak tomato. Eat ti with a knife and fork! The hot dog gives a snappy ""pop"" when you bite in.\r \r The fries are just right - thin cut and a little crisp, like McDonalds, with a generous portion of chili and best topped with a slice of cheese.\r \r Carney's chili is similar to Tommy's, but Carnys is better about keeping it fresh and skimming off the grease.\r \r The Hamburgers are comparable to Tommy's, but it's the hot dogs and chili fries that really stand out. \r \r Pros: friendly crew, non-greasy chili Cons: I'd like to see more locations, longer hours more

So good, so bad 11/6/2009

If you're looking for an awesome chili dog, with TONS of grease, this is the place. Nothing they serve can even be remotely thought of as healthy...so don't look for that. You're there for an awesome chili dog, chili fries and soda. The place can be busy for lunch, or late at night after the bars let out. Its GREAT for a hangover, or to just simply give you a heart attack! Enjoy! Pros: Great cheap food Cons: Your stomach, the next day more

Ewwwwe Garden burger hell 10/7/2008

Carney's was a tour de force of scary fake burger meat, which I think is the worst kind of meat and the queen of bad food. Many orders were mixed up and my lettuce mayo burger came out as a 1000 Island dressing disaster.\r \r Suffice it to say, I did not enjoy Carney's very much. more

Turkey burger! 6/17/2008

I'm a huge fan of the turkey burger at Carney's - it's very very good. Not 'gournet' good...just plain tasty. It takes about 10 minutes to cook - always a good sign - meaning they prepare it fresh. Thumbs up. more

Tasteless hot dogs 4/13/2008

The hot dogs were tasteless and when I asked for ketchup instead of mustard, I was made to feel like I was a freak. Pros: Clean eating area Cons: Don't ask for anything special. more

Probably NOT the best hamburgers in town! 8/24/2007

Probably NOT the best hamburgers in town. Alright, its junk food, and in that category they're OK. But these are grease burgers, just watch the way they cook them. Its cholesterol city. And the burgers do NOT look like the pictures on the billboards. Fries are OK, but too thin for me. I don't go here any more, I'd rather spend a bit more and get something better. Pros: Huh? Cons: Greasy burgers, thin fries. more

Great hot dogs 5/28/2007

I'm from Chicago so I'm very particular about my dogs. These hot dog's are pretty good. The service was good and atmosphere was great and selection pretty decent. I would definitely go again. Pros: Great service, great hot dogs, very clean Cons: Sunset blvd more

Would you like Bliss with that? 10/13/2006

This iconic eatery is a regular weekend stop for us. The friendly staff keeps the place clean, and they work through the longest of lines like a machine! The taste of the chili can vary, from a mellow mole' flavor to the greasiest of hangover foods, but when added to a burger, it opens a new vista on fun food. Special orders are de rigeur: onions, no pickle, add cheese, pickle on the side, etc. Awesome hot dogs in several varieties satisfy nearly all palates. \r \r Any food I eat while making ""yummy happy kitty"" noises rates pretty high on any list, and this place is a weekly mmmmmmmmmyumgmmymmm! Plus, you can watch the world go by, wave at curious tourists in their buses, eavesdrop on interesting conversations, and trade amazed stares with some pretty cute kids! \r \r Right on the Sunset Strip, this place has excellent off street parking. Leaving can be a problem, if LAFD has parked in the red zone in front of Carney's. If firetrucks are not at the curb, wait for a break in the traffic and rocket to the 'suicide lane'. Easy!\r \r Locking restrooms with hot water, plenty of 'napkins', usually good tunes on the muzak, happy hour specials, and hunger satisfied for hours make this place a must visit!\r \r They deliver in the area, can have small to medium size parties for birthday or after practice, with a nice outside seating area. Toddler high chairs are available, and the ramp to get in from the rear parking area is easy to walk up.\r \r Cheese paper has NOTHIN' over chili paper! Pros: ample rear parking, fun for the kids, variety on menu Cons: turning left onto Sunset when leaving more

Carney's has missed their own train 5/3/2006

Unfortunately, I didn't have a good experience at Carney's Restaurant. Although the service was acceptable and the train was very clean, the food was not on par. First, my order was wrong. I ordered and paid for two chili dogs and I only received one. And, for some reason, the fries were luke warm after being dumped from the fryer. Hmmm, I'm still confused about that one. I wanted to support Carney's because EVERYONE seems to patronize Pink's on LaBrea, but as a result, I won't be visiting either again. Carney's is located in an energetic spot, but lacks the energy inside. The bacon wrapped hotdogs that are served on the mobile carts after the leaving the club at 2AM is wayyyyyy better than this. Sorry Carney's, but you're not on board this train. Pros: Sunset Strip Local, All Window Seats, Free Parking in Rear Cons: Bland Taste, Small Portions more

Definately the best burger in the world!!!!!!!! 3/1/2006

I love Carney's I have been going there since a week after they opened when I was 15. I snuck out of the house at midnight for a burger and have been going there since. There was a time in teh mid 80's I did not need to order, I walked in & they started making my food! Thanks John & Bill! Pros: Chili is great! , Great burgers , Fast service Cons: none, none, none more

Loved the train theme! 6/26/2005

We went to this place because we saw the sign that had a picture of a train caboose on it and they sell hot dogs. Can't go wrong with either, so we tried it and liked it! Make sure you get your dog split on the grill, it'll taste better! Pros: Good Food, Inexpensive, Train Caboose more

Chili cheese fries 2/2/2005

The best chili burgers and chili fries, hands down. Have been a regular since I was 14 and will not ever stop. I was in the hospital for a week when I was 16 and my mom took me straight to Carney's the moment I was released. Nuff said. more

OH YEAH! 7/23/2003

You know that big train car on Sunset and you always wondered why it was there. Well, it's there to tempt your pallet with some of the best chili burgers in town. Sit down and watch the world go up and down Sunset Blvd. while you surely use up your fair share of napkins. All I have to say is once you've had a burger from Carney...the rest of 'em are just Blarney! more

OH MY GOD THESE ARE GOOD 7/18/2003

Carney's is BY FAR has the best burgers I've ever had in my life...and believe me, I eat a lot of burgers. Every time I have an out of town guest, they end up demanding we go back to Carney's a few times each trip. The price is soooo cheap, especially when you consider how huge the burger is and what you get at normal fast food joints. The few times I've tried something else on the menu, I haven't been disappointed. And the best part...the Michael Keaton doppelganger at the Sunset location. Pros: CHEAP, FRIGGIN TASTY Cons: LINE SOMETIMES LONG, WON'T COOK RARE more

Simply the best 8/27/2002

Simply one of the best if not the best Burger joint. They have other food aside from Burgers which are great also. Don't get me started on how good their chili is .. oh my. Their Half pound burgers are exactly that ... a half pound of beef. A glorious burger it is. Pros: Great Food, Great Atmosphere, Awesome Chili Cons: average bathroom more

Best Burger in LA! 7/21/2002

Carney's on Sunset has the best burgers in town. I consider myself something a burger expert and Carney's burgers rock! I'm not a big fan of the chilli burger they seem to have built a reputation around but just a plain ol' burger there is quite exceptional. Pros: Best burgers!, Have Dr. Pepper!, Reasonable price. Cons: No bacon. more
