I asked for a senior stylist and was given Audrey, who is very sweet, but unfortunately for me, made some pretty major mistakes. The first time I went to her, I had to get a color correction, which was ok (except for the extra 3 hours), but the 2nd time, both color (and cut) was quite a disaster. It's not so much the mistakes themselves, but also how she handled it, which was awkward and strange and quite humiliating for me. After doing highlights, Audrey suggested a toner, which basically dyed my entire head a purple red - not only a color which looks horrid on me, but completely wiping out all the ($$$) highlights! The cut was also totally wrong for me - the kind of cut that requires a totally different sort of person and lifestyle -- if there's one thing a stylist should do, it's ASK you how you live your life and what kind of time you want to invest in your hair before they give you a major change like that.She played dumb when I tried to explain all this, and basically made it a very difficult and ridiculous conversation, forcing me to repeat the same things over and over, and repeatedly saying she didn't know what I was talking about. We finally agreed I would come in for a correction (at a time that was not at all convenient for me) and when I arrived, having changed my whole schedule around, she refused to do it and told me no one else would do it either. The whole experience was utterly ridiculous and humiliating. Also really agree with the other person who says this salon pushes products really hard. I would recommend going elsewhere. Gross. I was in LA for business and needed a hilite and cut BADLY (I have been traveling for two months) I was referred to Carlton by my hotel, and decided to give it a try. I am not picky about my hair, and went with whomever was available. Ashley was great, I left with natural blonde highlights and gave me an amazing cut that I can work with. If I am ever in the area again and need my hair done, Carlton Hair is my place to go! more

I'll try to be brief. I was greeted at the door by a friendly girl who was very professional, but not in a manner that would require her to have a bottle of wine after work in order to return to her normal demeanor. Although it seemed busy and I was just walking in without an appointment, I was in a chair before I finishes my thrilling magazine article on Brittney Spears latest interview. Going back to "trying" to be brief. My stylist was a cute girl named Kelly. She was able to collaborate with me on a hairstyle. I'm not knowledgeable on technique or any of that, but she was able to put my words into the form of a hairstyle that I've been wondering if I could ever have. So anyway, I recommend the place :) more

I tried this salon because it is in my neighborhood. I was tired of paying top dollar for out-of-the-area "celebrity" hairstylists who left me with styles I didn't like. I tried Renee at Carlton and was really happy. Renee is helping me to grow out a bad style while still loving my hair. On my last visit, I got some color too and she did a wonderful job. I even stopped in when my layers were looking a little funky and she cleaned them up for me in between cuts. If you go to Carlton at Waterside, ask for Renee - she's super knowledgeable, friendly and a great stylist! more

I stopped going to this salon after 3 years because my stylist relocated. Their product is excellent, but spendy. Didn't care for employees lining up products in front of you when you're ready to pay every visit. I'd rather go to a salon that gives me recommendations only when asked. Please only go to a "Master Stylist" if you just have to go to Carlton Hair in the Marina. Had a horrid experience where they are not professional. Clearly my stylist was hungover and just rolled out of bed. Please use caution. more

Nice Place. This place is always busy, their is amazing stylists and fun enviornment. I had my hair done by an apprentice on Wed. morning I couldn't believe the quality of work for the price. PART TWO: I decided to give this place another try. Ran into the stylist with the hair I liked at the grocery store. She convinced me to give her a try. A completely different experience this time! Excellent cut, no pressure to buy product, she talked loud enough that I could hear her. I felt a little uncomfortable as her station was near the station of the stylist in PART ONE, but Danielle made me feel comfortable. I can't believe it myself, but I'll be a regular customer now. PART ONE: I pointed out another stylists hairstyle that I wanted. My cut is nothing like what I said I wanted - nothing like it at all. The cut I picked was quite edgy - I got extreme frumpiness. It looks like a 1978 yearbook photo from Nebraska. To make it worse, the stylist couldn't make a section of my bangs do what she wanted so she just HACKED IT OFF! I have a 1" section above my right eye that is 1.5" shorter than anywhere else. To make that worse, they style I picked didn't have bangs. I asked her opinion of some shampoo I'd just purchased elsewhere. Her response was to go get a bottle of their house brand to show me. "Nice bottle, but what do you think of xxxx?" No response at all, just another look at their house brand. You couldn't pay me to go back there. Pros: Nice scalp massage this time! Cons: Nothing bad to say this time! more

I've tried this place a couple of times thinking maybe seeing a different stylist was the trick. But both times I could barely tell they'd done anything to my hair at all. If I just wanted an average trim I could go to Supercuts and save my money. Nothing special about this salon. more
