My Oldest son joined Karate of the Woodlands Inc when he was five, and my youngest followed as soon as he was five as well. They are 10 and 7 now. The value I place on ANY instruction my children receive are positive environment, quality of instruction, discipline in class to ensure quality of education, and that the learning is fun in some way so the children WANT to learn. Mr. Prieto, an 8th degree black-belt, not only provides all the above qualities, but has the rare gift of patience as well. I watched a class my oldest son attended with almost 30 kids under 8 years old, for one hour, do what Mr. Prieto said, when he said it, and at the end of the hour, came out of class sweating, red faced, but SMILING, they had FUN learning. The school teaches karate as defense, as well as discipline in class (which bleeds over into their life out of class) , paying attention and following instruction (which Mr. Prieto teaches in a fun way as a part of instruction and as a game) , self confidence, and working as a group when conducting sparing. The school offers more resources beyond Chun-Kuk-Do, in form of monthly age appropriate worksheets for a character word of the month (Respect, Honesty, Etc) , also an online newsletter for parents from the Corporate office child Psychologist, Dr. Robyn. Conroe and Houston ISD also accept class as a P.E credit. My boys have greatly benefited from instruction as well as the school as a whole, who supports the children’s development with encouragement and positive role models. I would encourage anyone searching for a positive, fun, and character developing program for their children to go to Karate of the Woodlands Inc. and try a class to see all that I have described above.
