Jealously Guarded Secret - My Favorite Careerlink 12/9/2011

I am reluctant to write this review. Do I really want to let others in on my positive experiences? Others who just might crowd the offices and ruin my peaceful productivity? Sigh. It's a hard call. But I am going to err on the side of generosity and hope that the nasty-tempered citizens do not read CitySearch reviews. What do I value about the Germantown CareerLink office? 1. Atmosphere. Business-oriented. Walk through the door straight to the reception desk to find out who you need to see or what you need to do. Register for a free account number that allows you access to free services and sources. Resume crafting, workshops, etc. usually requires an appointment. 2. Cleanliness. The floors and under the desks are cleaned regularly. The computer keyboards feel clean and dry. The ladies room bathroom is clean for a public restroom and usually stocked with toilet tissue. 3. Layout. Spacious and clearly designated. Staff can point out where patrons need to go and what can be done at the various stations. Computer station, office rooms for meetings, print outs showing relevant links or job search suggestions, job postings, SEPTA bus schedules, etc. are some of the offerings available. 4. Computer use. Two staff members oversee that computer use is fair and as timely as can be managed depending on patron need and computer availability. Time allotted is usually an hour a day. (If you come after three p.m. you will have less time on the computers because the computer lab closes at four p.m. Try to be in early - around nine a.m. on Monday mornings because patron use is expected to be heavy that day and that time.) 5. Staff assistance. The staff provides information about unemployment issues. Need job training or food stamps, ask and you will be directed to the right place. Remember, as you ask, polite phrases and civility makes any interactions, at any place, smoother. Give the courtesy you expect and that's what you will get back. If you need help using the computers, that help can vary depending on the number of other patrons needing help and how much help you need. You are expected to know the basics of opening windows, closing them, clicking and so on. Complete computer use newbies should find out about computer use BEFORE using the computer stations. Overall, this CareerLink branch is my favorite. Yes, I would rather be at work, but if I need to work on getting my next job, this is the place I want to go. more
