weird vibes!!! 6/8/2003

Initially, us two girls loved the place. You walk in, get totally enveloped by the darkness and cozy glow of the coppery red lights. Music is fantastic. Bartender is cute (yeah you know who you are). But then 20 minutes later, you're inside the freakin club but realize very much on the outside. People are huddled together, nobody so much as glances at you much less offer the teeniest of smiles. heck i woulda settled for a smirk. At one point, we heard people say when we walked by, "What are they doing here, where are these people coming from?" We were not in shiny shirts or scary scanty clothes. We were two cute and friendly chicks who totally got snubbed. May give it another shot, but will have to bring our own set of friends in order to get some interaction going on at the place. Pros: reasonable drinks, cool decor Cons: bad vibes, snotty attitude more

LOVE the place 5/29/2003

What a great little spot in a city that sooooooo needed a new bar!!! Pros: Parking, In&Out next door, great owners more

Great Place, Good People 4/23/2003

Carbon is one of those places you can go just to have a drink with some friends and other nights to check out the other gender. It has a great atmosphere and the staff is exceptional. Drinks are always potent and the music is eclectic but always interesting. There's an especially cute bartender working on her degree I wish I had a chance with but I choose to live in reality. Anyway, Carbon is a place you must checkout. Otherwise you do yourself an injustice. Pros: DJ's, Atmosphere, Cool Crowd more

friday nites @ carbon rock! 4/10/2003

carbon is definately one of the cooler lesser known spots in LA! the vibe is amazing! everyone who shows up is cool and real...which is so hard to find. plus friday night's dj's are the best! if you haven't checked out dj lolo, then you're missing out! it's always at good time at carbon! Pros: inexpensive, great parking, cool crowd more

Nice to finally have a decent Bar! 2/9/2003

Its just what this hood needed; a cool bar where people can chill over Phat beats. The owners are supercool and down to earth. The drinks are strong and it's open most nights. I'm gonna start hittin it more often before it gets too hot and turns into the Room SM.... and we dont want that! Pros: strong drinks, nice setting, the best staff Cons: wierd music sometimes, weird crowd sometimes, soulmusic no soulfolk more

The Vibe @ Carbon 2/3/2003

Carbon - It's a new spot away from the Hollywood Scene. Not to big, but yet great bar service and music. It's only been open for a few months and already has a great vibe and crowd. The music on Saturday's kicks. With great music, great drinks and good conversation what more can u ask for? It beats hanging in Hollywood trying to get in the door and waiting forever for a drink! Carbon is the new spot to hang. It has it's own style and ecletic crowds. The DJ on Saturday's plays a calvacade of music not your typical club DJ that sticks to one too many commercial beats. He's got a selection of music for everyone's ear. Don't miss the bus and get to Carbon before they start making u wait @ the door! Pros: parking, music, crowd more

In-n-Out is next door! 1/9/2003

The same loungy feel of the Room in SM before it got all ghetto...I went there for a killer new years party. The owners and staff are totally cool, drinks are strong and reasonable. If you live in-between the beach and h'wood...make this your new watering hole. Pros: DJ's, Inexpensive, People Cons: Bump in the floor more

cool and chill 1/8/2003

At first glance the bar feels trendier than it is. But settle in with a cocktail and you will not find the arrogance or posturing that accompany LA's trendier spots. A nice relaxed atmosphere with friendly bar keeps. more

  • The Scene
Carbon is a breath of fresh air for the fast-growing Westside scene. Located at a former neighborhood eyesore, Sloppy Joe's, this low-lit lounge has the funky feel of Hollywood hang, the Room, when it was "the" underground hot spot. The similarities aren't purely coincidental, considering Carbon's two owners were longtime Room employees. A narrow, hallway-like interior is flanked by a padded, steel-top bar and a mirrored back wall. Comfy couches conducive to conversation and shoulder shrugging occupy the middle, along with a tiny DJ area. Video monitors screening silent movies and a jukebox blaring with jams from Outkast to Barry White sit in front.

    The Draw
The finest homegrown DJs spin a mad mix of hip-hop, electro, deep soul and retro rock. The old- to new-skool cuts, along with the affordable drinks and no cover charge, draw a young crowd of locals and Hollywood types.
