WORKOUT 8/12/2007

It's truly a workout once you get inside it's hot as 'HELL", but if you came to dance like your suppose to in a club your good. . No dress code so it's not the "Hollywood" spot, No fakes. Now getting there early is not the issue, It's not packed till 11*00 11*30. Everyone working there is very chill. Drinks are very well made and cheap. Friday nights are hot, very live. My girls and I are there when we just can't decide what to do, but when ever I just want to go dance and have a good time this is it. I've been there Tuesdays and Saturday and always enjoy my nights. Pros: Music is always good, crowd is always mixed. Cons: Small inside and Hot. more

fun chill atmosphere 6/22/2007

This is a great chill place to go and enjoy the good selection of music. As soon as you enter you feel completely relaxed and ready to enjoy the night. It's a bit tight with space but it creates an intimate setting like typical New York bars. The dance floor is a small square but there is ample room for dancing, on or near the dance floor. The bartenders were cordial and attentive. The people there were incredibly diverse but by the end, though, there appeared to be more of a hip hop crowd on the dance floor, especially once the old school hip hop songs started playing. I loved it and definitely will go back there soon. Pros: Ambience, Parking, Music, Lounge Cons: Small more

Interesting Vibe 4/26/2007

Worth a try for a little different feel than the usual Culver City hang-outs. Fairly strong drinks and a few hotties to talk too. more

won't be going back 3/10/2007

I'll try to be as nice as possible....this place is definitely not what I expected. Went on a Friday night and the place was packed by 11pm. Problem was, the crowd was super getto. Definitely not a crowd you'll see out in Hollywood. But they did have really strong and cheap drinks. The DJ was ok as well, but not enough for me to go back. I guess there's a reason I stay in Hollywood. Pros: cheap drinks, parking Cons: crowd, very small more

Nice place if you want to avoid the Hollywood BS 11/15/2006

Nice place to have a drink, hear good music and to be in a relaxed atmosphere, nice people and nice vibe. A great alternative to the Hollywood club scene more

so not your ordinary nightclub!! 8/19/2006

I just discovered this hot spot a week ago. I'm not much into the club scene anymore, being that I'm now married. I just wanted a night out with my girlfriends to hang out and have some really good drinks. They took me to this place and my first impression when we entered at around 10:30 was, "this is going to be a sorry night!". The place is smaller than my 2-bedroom apartment! It was lit with red light and there were about 10 people at the bar and two in the lounge area. There was music playing but not of my interest. In my club days, if the people and the music weren't jumping, I'd leave and move on to the next. So, we sat down in the lounge area and ordered our drinks, which were very inexpensive and very well made! We sat down and started taking pictures and watched the crowd finally start coming in. Withing 30 minutes the place was so crowded, the good music started playing, and everyone started dancing. I couldn't believe how fast the place got packed with such a diverse crowd! My friends and I had such an unforgettable time. We ended up having a bit too much to drink and dancing all over the place (something i totally wasn't expecting). If you are looking for something totally different from the trendy Hollywood scene and just out to have some good drinks and listen to some great music and just CHILL, this is the place. I will be back. more

Cozy Little Lounge 10/10/2005

Carbon is a nice local lounge. Dress code is casual. Drinks are reasonably priced. DJ's spina mix of old school hip-hop and funk. Atmosphere is fun, there is a lounge area, bar and dance floor. Lots of fun, I recommend stopping by if you are in the area and you don't want to go to another trendy LA bar. Pros: DJ, Good Drinks, Fun Atmosphere more

This is not a dance club. Which is why I love it. It is a Lounge Bar, very cozy and comfortable. I like that fact that it is open everyday (including Sundays) until 2am. A must, if you are not into the club scene of Los Angeles. Pros: no cover, open EVERYDAY, inexpensive more

Digital Underground 9/20/2005

This is a cool little underground spot to hang out at. The DJs spin a good mix of old school hiphop, current chart toppers, and nice reggae grooves. It can get a little crowded but its all good though. Pros: No Cover, Dancing Cons: Crowded, Small more

red-lite chillin' 4/12/2005

very chill, dark-lit lounge/bar that has 2 TVs playing old black-and-white movies w/ a red-lit screen for added hipness. the DJs spin a variety of music, depending on the night, one of the more enjoyable nights being Tuesdays, where Reggae is the sound of choice. definitely a cool place for a drink if you can handle small spaces, and little dance room. more

Funkarrific 3/15/2005

Low-key dance spot with lots of reggae, hip-hop and sould spinning for kids to dance too. And dance they do, with the floor packed for most of the night. This bar is nothing flashy and the crowd is a diverse mix of Angelenos from all over the city who all seem to enjoy themselves. Pros: Music, Low key more

User review by xinc 2/19/2005

First impression, arriving around 10:30 on a Saturday night: Cozy, nice atmosphere, but a little too chill. Less than an hour later, the DJ got going and the 'too chill' vibe disappeared as the club filled in and people started dancing. The DJ was excellent, spinning mixes of modern RnB with some early Beastie Boys, reggae and a healthy dose of James Brown. The crowd and staff were friendly and lively - none of the patented LA pretentiousness you see in most clubs. Drinks are reasonably priced and decently made. All in all, a very nice venue. Pros: Good vibe, Excellent music, No cover more

Basement Party 8/25/2004

I love Carbon, just discovered this little hidden secret last weekend with some friends. It was the perfect place to get together with friends and have a casual night out. The DJ's spin really great old-school hip hop and R&B, place is a bit small but it has the feeling of being at a highschool houseparty. Pros: Parking, No cover, No Dress Code more

The New West L.A. Hot Spot for Locals! 5/26/2004

Carbon was the spot! I normally drive by and keep driving since I wasn't sure what to expect. My boyfriend came down from the bay and had a few drinks for dinner and still were up for a few drinks. Since I live blocks from Carbon, I decided to just stop by. We had a GREAT time! Sunday seem to be a slower night but with the people that had been there.. we all took shots together and laughing/joking as if we've all known eachother for years. That is the kind of place we need more of! How's the song from Cheers go again?? :) Keep it up Carbon, I'll be seeing you often!! Pros: Great Atmosphere, Exceptional Drinks, Great Sound! more

Friday Night Soul 8/12/2003

What can i say about this low-pro spot? Great music, cool people, strong drinks, nice atmosphere, no attitude. Been there a few times for birthday parties on Fridays and we had a blast. It's good to see DJ's that don't play all house or all hip-hop, which seems to be the norm in LA. On friday's, the DJ's play a good mix of soul, funk, reggae, and latin music and they get the dancefloor jumpin'. Lotsa pretty girls too and a good mix of people make this a much needed place in this pretentious town. Cool vibe, nice strong drinks and good service. No cover, free parking and a good central location make this the new spot. Pros: great music, cool people, good drinks more

Carbon Rocks 7/7/2003

I have been going to Carbon for about a month now. I love it. A good mix of people in age, size, color and style, and everyone has a good time. The beer is cold, bartenders friendly, a great place to take a date or hangout after work. I think i have been there every night of the week .. and their DJ's are the BOMB. Tuesday Reggae night is my fave with DJ's from Jamaican Gold spinning!!!! Carbon is right on the money. Thanks guys! Pros: lots of FREE parking, ice cold beer, great location Cons: none more

  • The Scene
Carbon is a breath of fresh air for the fast-growing Westside scene. Located at a former neighborhood eyesore, Sloppy Joe's, this low-lit lounge has the funky feel of Hollywood hang, the Room, when it was "the" underground hot spot. The similarities aren't purely coincidental, considering Carbon's two owners were longtime Room employees. A narrow, hallway-like interior is flanked by a padded, steel-top bar and a mirrored back wall. Comfy couches conducive to conversation and shoulder shrugging occupy the middle, along with a tiny DJ area. Video monitors screening silent movies and a jukebox blaring with jams from Outkast to Barry White sit in front.

    The Draw
The finest homegrown DJs spin a mad mix of hip-hop, electro, deep soul and retro rock. The old- to new-skool cuts, along with the affordable drinks and no cover charge, draw a young crowd of locals and Hollywood types.
