I called Cabuto to repair my a/c. The person answering the phone told me there was a $49 diagnostic charge for determining the problem. Sounded reasonable to me. The repairman arrived and after checking, told me my freon was low and the coils were dirty. He sprayed the coils with a waterhose to clean and added 3.7 lbs of freon. In addition to the $49 fee, I was charged $85 for a hour of labor (minimum charge) and $55/lb for 4 lbs of freon for a grand total of $354. I called another local company to get an idea of whether $55/lb is high because it sounded high to me. Total HVAC quoted $24/lb for freon. WHAT?!! So I called Caputo back and asked the lady answering the phone why they charged $55/lb when another company charges $24/lb. Her response was that Caputo used pure freon while other companies used refurbished freon. Huh? I am a single female who knows nothing about HVAC repairs but this sounded off to me. She offered to have Mr. Caputo call and explain. I'm still waiting on his phone call. In the meantime, I call Total HVAC again and asked them if they used refurbished freon. They literally laughed at me and said there is no such thing as refurbished freon. So, I could've saved $120 just by calling another company. Not only was the price jacked up, they lied to me about why it was so much higher. If you're going to rip people off, at least have the dignity to admit it instead of making up fake information. It's too late for me but I recommend you do your homework before calling these folks.
