The ambiance is something out of a "Pirates" movie... the service is mediocre... but the seafood is fresh, succulent and delicious. There is always a wait on the weekends, so do not go here if you are looking for a quick bite to eat. The food is a bit pricey, but when you take your first bite, but it's well worth it! more

3/5 Stars\r \r I had the salmon here tonight. It was a tad pricey for what it was. The salad was iceberg lettuce with a slice of cucumber, a slice of tomato and some shredded carrot. All fresh, and simple. I asked for balsamic vinegar and got some sort of vinaigrette. Although the rolls were nice and hot, they left something to be desired. Service was also lacking. The fish itself was good. I had mine "blackened". The "yellow rice" was reminiscent of a Rice-A-Roni rendition.\r \r All in all the food was pretty good, though over priced. Atmosphere was good, but the service was attentive, friendly, yet lacking in professionalism. I probably will not ever make a return visit. more

This restaurant was a disappointment, for it turns potentially good seafood into flavorless overcooked meals accompanied by iceberg lettuce salads and spongy rolls. Miami is full of wonderful restaurants, including quite a number of terrific Spanish seafood places, but this restaurant is just plain bad. On the plus side, the waitress was pleasant and, although the tavern was dark, it wasn't noisy. However, we won't be going back. more

Took my whole family here in 1995 when I graduated from law school. It was an incredible meal. No one complained. Haven't been in a while but hope it is still as good as it ever was. more

By far..THE BEST FISH RESTAURANT IN S. FL!!!!!!!!!! 12/23/2009

Captains Tavern has such a warm quaint feel! Aside from the atmosphere, the food is the best around! I travel 1 hour for this place. It is SO worth it! I recommend this place to everyone I know...it's my favorite place to eat out!!!! You may have to wait a bit on Friday and Saturday night, I usually get a drink at the bar and they'll come get us over there. It's by far my favorite fish place around! Pros: THE BEST FISH!Worth the wait!!! Cons: You may have to wait a little bit...but so worth it!!!!!!!!! more

My Favorite Seafood Restaurant 3/20/2009

This is one of my favorite restaurants but definitely my favorite seafood restaurant. Fisherman that we know love eating here and ordering from their market. That's all you need to know. We love it so much. The food is just awesome. My favorites include the Salmon Tartare (always must order it) The main dishes are delicious. My favorite dessert is the white chocolate creme brulee.. My Favorite Seafood Place in Miami 8/8/2007

I have eaten here numerous times and I have yet to have a bad meal. The ipswich belly clams, coleslaw, salmon...everything is delicious. The service is usually right up there, but can lack slightly in very high traffic times which is expected, but the food is fresh and yummy...I would eat here once a week if I could. Watch out for calculation of added gratuity for 6 or more diners 10/20/2006

Waiters calculate their own tips on bills for 6 or more diners, and ""erroniously"" add tip on the sales tax as well. You have to check the tip calculation carefully as management does not do so and it is not computerized. more

Their food is remarkable! The best lobster bisque I have ever had (I could eat it every night). Service is outstanding, but go early otherwise there is a long wait. Tuesday night is 2-for-1 lobster night. more

Captain's Tavern is a refreshing break from the rest of Miami. The waitresses are old school and friendly. The food is incredible and interesting, without being frilly. And I've never had a bad (or even mediocre) meal there. more

The Captain's Tavern is a GREAT seafood place with dock-like decor. They have a great variety in the menu and an extensive wine list. If you are in the mood to eat fish, this is the place. Pros: great fish, moderately priced Cons: busy place more
