Beautiful eyebrow 10/12/2007

I think one of the most prominent feature on a person's face are the eyebrows. I mean I've gone through that thin eyebrow phase where I've over plucked one too many hairs. After my esthetician worked her magic on me, I was delighted with the results! I thought I knew what shape would look best on me, but I left everything to her. I could not believe how much better I looked! The rest of the day I kept trying to catch my reflection on any surface I walked by 'cuz I couldn't believe how much of a difference my new brows made! more

Glad I found them! 10/5/2007

I tried this place on a whim while I was on my way home from work. It was a nice change of pace from the more typical nail salons that can be found along El Camino or tucked away inside most strip malls. This place is lovely and clean. I asked about their different services and decided on getting the spa pedicure. Pure bliss! There is a Starbucks right next store so it's great if you want to grab a coffee to sip while you are being pampered. Parking is plentiful - no problems there! I will absolutely go back to try a manicure and also an eyebrow wax. I am confident that they will exceed my expectations! Glad I found them! more

Terrible Service! 7/27/2007

If I could give this place zero stars, I would. Let me start off by saying I have been there for a spa mani/pedi and I thought it was pretty good. I met all three sisters and they were all very nice. The price is reasonable. Trying to organize a party here is a different story. A friend and I wanted to throw our friend a bridal shower at Capri. I told them it'd be 10-12 girls, on a Sunday afternoon and we'd like a private party. I was told "no problem, it'll be so much fun and we look forward to it! There is a nominal clean up fee, but another sister takes care of the parties and she's not here right now, but everything should be fine! We'll put a sign outside that it's closed for a private party!" I was told I'd find out about the fee later. We booked with that place. What a MISTAKE. I fault myself for booking before knowing what this "nominal fee" is. She made it sound small. I called them a few times to find out what it was but each time I was told they had never done something like this before, and that they were checking other nail salon's policies to guide them. RED FLAG. The sister I had been talking to finally calls me and tells me they have a contract ready for me (I never heard anything about a contract until this point). The fee's turn out to be a 10% accommodation fee and a 20% gratuity fee. I was pretty livid. I didn't think the fee's were unreasonable at all, I was just mad that they told me there would only be a nominal cleaning fee, but now added a 20% gratuity. I let them know I was okay with the 10% but not with the 20%. I told them I don't want to force our guests to pay a percentage but feel that guests should pay according to quality of service. I told them I fully expected our guests to give a tip, just at their discretion. There was no mention of mandatory gratuity during our initial discussions and I was not comfortable at all with this change. She said they were already making an exception for us - they only have parties on the weekdays and they made the exception for us to be on a Sunday! I told her that they NEVER said that Sunday was an issue in our initial call. Now, she’s saying it’s a special favor! In any case, she said she'd talk to her sisters first and then let me know. She calls back later and tells me no, they won't change it. We had decided if they wouldn’t take it off, we’d just book appointments and not have the party there. In theory the times should have been free so I booked 10 appointments with them. One hour later, they call and tell me that her techs told her that they have 3 standing appts during the time I wanted the appts booked and will have to move 3 of our appts. How exactly were they going to have a private party for us if there were 3 standing appts I wondered? She said that she's trying to accommodate us, but how is it accommodating us if she's moving us? It had been over 2 weeks since I first spoke to them at this point and they had this slot saved for us for that long. She never answered my question. She just kept telling me that she had to move them. I was obviously upset at this point. Then, she proceeds to tell me how difficult I had been all this time, how I was making the party un-fun for HER and they were always trying to accommodate us and I was making ridiculous demands. She put me on hold (as in, puts the phone down to talk to a customer) and then HANGS UP on me. Maybe it hung up by itself, who knows. I didn't hang up on her. She NEVER called me back. I didn't call back because I was so mad, I didn't want to say things I would regret later. They call back almost a week later and leave me a message telling me they're canceling my appts because they can't accommodate me. That's fine. We booked with another salon that's way more organized and had ALL their terms UPFRONT. Also, they should not let the sister who doesn’t organize the parties to speak with customers who wish to book a party. Her misleading statements during our initial conversation are what started all of this. RECAP! - They never had a party there, was looking at other salon policies - not a nominal cleaning fee as initially said - said Sunday was a favor to us when didn’t say that initially - had other appts booked during our “private party” - rudely tells me I’ve been difficult and un-fun - hangs up on me and then calls a week later to cancel - claims is trying to accommodate us when they’re just accommodating themselves Don't go here, and definitely DON'T plan a party here. more

Excited 3/17/2007

I just happened upon Capri Nail Spa by accident, but I am beyond excited that I did. I'm a picky, high-maintenance freak about my nails and since I moved from San Jose to the Peninsula I have spent the last 6 months nomadically wandering from nail salon to nail salon looking for just the right place. Eureka! First, some background: This is a family owned business with three sisters at the helm, one of whom, it seems, mans the phones and the front desk. The real benefit here (besides her supremely professional manner and wonderful personality) is that these gals speak English fluently -- I'm sure that they were born here. That's common at spas, but not at a place that charges what Capri does. Capri's prices are in line with those hellish little dumps where you can't communicate with anyone and are sure that along with your mani-pedi you've picked up a complimentary fungus. Regular mani's are 15, while my "spa" mani was 22! Crazy, right? Pedi's are 25 with "spa" pedi's at 35. They offer discounted combo packages. A few important details: -- Solid selection of O.P.I colors with a smattering of other high-end brands. -- They use all disposable files, buffers and callous sponges. Metal instruments are first soaked in Barbacide, then nuked in the UV oven and then sealed for the next customer (I both saw them do this and then asked about it -- I watch for these practices like a hawk on my first visit to any nail place). -- Gigantic, clean, professional message chairs that you sit in while they do their thing. Not just for pedicures, mind you, but even for my manicure. The woman across from me was getting a fill and she sat in the happy chairs, too. -- You don't dry under fans, they have a UV bar (that's right, bar. You just have to see it) that you place your hands under. It dried them super fast and made for a comfortable wait. Also, no bubbles!! -- The owner showed me their recent report from the state board where they got a "no violations". She tells me that the state board said that was rare. I believe her! When was the last time you looked around a nail salon and couldn't find anything that needed improvement. I've never been able to say that. This place is O/C (obsessive/compusive) clean! -- Atmosphere: This isn't a cozy, intimate little space; it looks like a labratory with its large, open geometry and high ceilings. This makes for nice ventilation -- it smells nothing like a nail salon, for you sensitive types. Also, the chairs and stations are situated so that you have a comfortable cusion between you and your neighbor. -- After having just come back from my second visit I noticed that the employees don't chat loudly to each other across the room (or really at all), they chat with you. Or not. Depending on your personal style. Soft, classical elevator-ish music plays in the background. Both of those facts along with the nice personal space make for a peaceful, relaxing visit. On to the service: My tech was the newest hire (Lisa) and I was worried because my number one pet peeve is my mangy cuticles (I am almost never satisfied on this account). They are plentiful and hard (and hard to push back) and I like them GONE. I loathe when they don't cut enough off and then the paint is all over them. Worse, when they try to hook me up and hack away, I usually get cut. When she started it looked like the same 'ole, same 'ole, but after having been asked if they were o.k. and seeing me shrug politely, she disappeared to the back and returned with a Super Cuticle Pusher (I need one). She used her own nail, the SCP and buckets of cuticle-be-gone and sho'nuff, she rendered my nail beds flawless! I was thrilled because for me, everything else is icing on the cake. Kudos to this lovely gal for noticing that I wasn't happy and bending over backward for me. After that, she exfoliated my hands and arms with an aromatherapy scrub, then brought out two bags of parafin (great way to do that!), then massaged and painted me. All excellent. Her painting and shaping skills are tops as well -- far, far better than most. In fact, I can't remember having had a better job done. Gals, you must try this place! I actually signed up for Yelp for the sole purpose of pimping these sisters and their kick-ass salon! They've only been open since December and if they go under from lack of business, I'm going to cry. [They say that they've got tons of returning customers, but not a lot of new ones] Incidentally, there's plenty of parking and Chipotle, the tastiest organic mexican food EVER! is right next door. Plus, Starbucks. P.S. As to what Jovi C said, yeah, my gal didn't speak much English either, but she cared enough to wave over the owner who translated my request. Problem solved. Also, it seems that besides the owners, most of the other employees speak English very well. Communication is not an issue at Capri. more

What a find! 3/14/2007

I've had a lot of facials before, but this one was my best one yet. The spa was clean and VAN did a FANTASTIC job. I had a long day and was in need of pampering, Van made my all of my stress go away, once I walked out of my facial I felt like a new woman. My skin felt clean and refreshed. My skin also felt ridiculously soft, like a baby's bottom and it stayed that way for a week or two. I am very critical on how i like my facials, but she really hit the spot. The facial was scheduled to be an hour, but instead i got almost a 2 hour treatment. She made sure that she was thorough on my facial. Typically when the part where it time to extract black heads and pimples I get terrified because they usually hurt. However, Van was able to extract them in a way that it didn't hurt at all and it was still very relaxing. After my facial she explain all the products that she used on my face and explained my skin conditions and even gave me advice on how to maintain my skin. This is definitely the place to go for a good clean, refreshing, relaxing facial. Not only are their facials good, the Spa Mani/Pedi is to die for. It was relaxing and clean. I've again been to many different places for mani/pedi, but here at Capri they go above and beyond to deliver good service and excellence. The prices are reasonable. You defiantly get a bang for your buck here. I live in San Jose, and drive out of my way just for their services, and the drive is well worth it. The salon is clean, the customer service is friendly and the environment and service is GREAT!! more

One word - AWESOME!! 2/6/2007

For anyone who is picky about where they get their nails done - this place is for you! It is super clean, all the tools were taken out of the package or the sanitizer right in front of me. After my pedicure, while waiting for my nails to dry, they were already cleaning the station. The owner did my pedicure and did an incredible job! She was so friendly as was the rest of the staff! Truly a great find - see for yourself! more
