If you want to get away from the chain pizza places around Harbor Country, but don't want to shell it out for a pie, this is the place to go. They offer just a basic, well made, fresh pizza at an average price. Never mind that they've been making pizzas for the past 50 years. Try the fantastic Italian pasta dishes on the menu if you must. But the real focus here is the pizza.
The crust is just classic, hand tossed, yeasty white dough, made crisp outside and chewy inside. The sauce is flavorful and pungent. The meats they use are surprisingly lacking in grease, with the Italian sausage a standout with plenty of fennel seeds and spices.
Don't expect this restaurant to be a place of family friendly ambiance though. The inside is smoky, old and worn, with sports blaring on TVs over the bar and high tables. Locals come here in the summer for a drink, a smoke, some cheap hearty food and a Cubs game in the evening. Take your food to go and eat it on the beach or at Oselka park.
Pros: A great alternative to Pizza Hut.
Cons: Nothing too special or exciting.
