Editorial review from Citysearch 6/14/2012

Our three month old daughter typically sees Dr. Brown from Capitol Pediatrics, but she was running a fever on a Tuesday afternoon and Dr. Brown wasn't in the office, so we were seen by Dr. Treybig. We go into the office quickly, and Dr. Treybig examined our daughter, started a urine culture and a blood culture right away. The blood test showed an abnormally high white blood cell count, so Dr. Treybig sent us to Dell Children's and even called ahead so we would have a shorter wait in the ER. She then continued to communicate with the ER doctor and pass on instructions to us as well as to Dr. Brown, our regular pediatrician, until the issue was resolved. We are also very happy with our well child visits to Dr. Brown. I feel like we are in very good hands with Capital Pediatric Group. more

I was recommended to Capital Pediatrics 6/11/2012

I was recommended to Capital Pediatrics by a friend before my first child 7 years ago. I love that I can call and get into one of the doctors within an hour and they are all great. The nurses are fantastic and are extremely helpful whenever I call. I have recommended them to several of my friends and they all enjoy going as well. I highly recommend checking them out. more

If you haven't noticed, Capital 6/7/2012

If you haven't noticed, Capital Pediatric Group is advertising URGENT CARE and walk-ins. My child is not an established patient at this office, but what do you think of when you hear urgent care? you would expect that if it is urgent care they would have most of the things and ER would have. That is not the case at this office. My child fell of his bike had a cut that required stitches and a fracture as well. I decided to take my child to this office since it is near by and thought it wouldn't be as crazy as waiting in an ER office. When i got there, i was told that 1. they do not have an x-ray machine. 2. they do not do stitches. 3. i would be charged an urgent care fee. on top of that, i was sent out to do x-rays and stitches at an ER. i was stuck with an urgent care fee on top of an ER fee. how inconvenient is that. DO NOT ADVERTISE AS URGENT CARE IF INDEED IT IS NOT URGENT CARE! more

I'm pleased to say Dr. Hughes has seen 6/2/2012

I'm pleased to say Dr. Hughes has seen all three of my children since 1993. I am sad that he rarely makes to the Duval location. Come North! more

Overall great visit with Dr. Mani 12/6/2011

I was a first time mom and as all of you mom's know finding a pediatrician is VERY daunting! After talking with a couple of different pediatricians, I decided on Dr. Mani. After our first visit, I was very happy with my decision! And now, 2 years later, I am still very happy. Dr. Mani is very experienced and considerate. She took the time to explain the basics to me and answered all of my questions (even if I was scared to ask them). About a year later, when my son got sick she was very helpful in explaining the treatment and what his illness was. The office staff at capital pediatrics is also very friendly. I was worried about this as my son is very scared of new places, but my son feels comfortable. And we both love the feel of the office. Overall GREAT EXPERIENCES with Dr. Mani! I know its hard to choose but I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Mani! more

Disrespectful, forgetful, and rude...keep looking 12/8/2010

Having a child with a chronic illness, my family has been dealing with medical professionals for many many years. Dr. Frank has the most disrespectful and rude bedside manner. It is not only how he talks to us as parents of a patient, but he speaks as if we are ignorant, uneducated people who are lucky to be in the presense of such greatness. I wonder sometimes when the Doctor forgot that indeed he is being paid by the patient (the customer), and he is indeed getting paid for a service. I pay for private insurance. Our family has no government assistance, and one of the comments he made to us once was that ""someone was having to pay for this!"", yes, they are....we are. Perhaps because we are hispanic the assumption was made that we were not on private insurance, but yes, we have it, use it, and pay for it. Dr. Frank also feels the need to speak very differently to me as compared to my husband. I can promise you that he would not speak to my husband in the manner and tone that he feels free to speak to me in. In the world of Dr. Frank, it is his way or the highway. Don't question, don't ask, and by all means, don't deviate from any recommendations he may make. Be prepared to be blasted if you question any treatments, and ladies, I would bring your husbands along if you don't want to leave feeling insulted and belittled. I have not returned to that office, and will never return there. I believe I am a consumer, and should not have to pay to be talked to in that manner. There are many options out there, and I would keep looking if your are considering this Doctor. more

cattle call 10/10/2009

CP is a total cattle call. Your children will either be misdiagnosed by a completely incapable doctor or you will be talked down to by a smug jerk. For the good of my kids, I've put up with the smugness of the capable doctors but will gladly leave for a practice that can show they love what they do. I will say that there is one nurse who is amazing. My kids love her and she is the only reason we have stayed with CP. Pros: open weekends/1 great nurse Cons: often misdiagnosed/smug/cattle call more

VERY UNPROFESSIONAL 7/8/2009

There is a cliche that "" It will take a life time to get clients/patients and it will only take a second to loose. I was 7 months on the way on my pregnancy when me and my husband moved in to Pflugerville from Dallas. After I gave birth with our son, I started looking for a good and open minded Pediatrician. Our search is still on, we're hoping that we can find a good and professional doctor for our baby. Today is July 7th, 2009 and we're just got back from the doctor's office for our son well-visit appointment. Our appointment is 9:00 am and we got there around 8:50 am. I signed up for our time at the front desk and waited for the nurse to take us to the check-up room for standard procedures of taking baby vital signs. After the nurse took the vital signs, we waited again for the pediatrician to come in the check-up room. We waited for about 30 minutes late of our appointment time. Waiting for the doctor to come in and check you is something that patient need to deal with. My husband need to check on the doctor if she is coming in soon or not. Finally she came in and say hello with us and we greeted her back. She start asking us how the baby doing and all sorts of usual stuff that doctors ask , as a mom I normally have a written questions with me before I go to any doctor's office for whatever reason so that I am ready to ask the doctor about my concerns. So I started asking the doctor about what are listed in my paper , I probably had about 15-18 short and quick questions for her that concerns me about my son. While we are talking and me asking all the questions that I think is important, she gave us the feeling of she is not even interested on knowing that we have some questions to ask for. Usually when you see a doctor , the doctor will ask you if you have anymore questions but in her case ( Dr. Elise Kibler ) she didn't even let me finish my list instead she said "":nice to see you again "" and we felt that she want's us to go and leave with the feeling of we been treated unfairly. I said, wait a minute we've been waiting for you about 30 mins. late of our appointment time and this is how you treated us. We are not talking about you being a doctor and us being a patient but we are talking about care. She didn't even care about asking us if we have anymore concerns, we really felt like she is not into it and she gave us the impressions of her being a unprofessional and rude doctor. How can you rush your patient if you are late yourself for about 30 mins of their appointment time. We didn't feel any affection and care from her, it's like her saying OK I AM DONE WITH YOU LET ME GET OUT OF HERE. She said she is in a hurry ,, I said gosh she is late and she rushed us to get out of there. What the hek is that? besides she didn't even answer my questions about me asking her how can I prevent my son in getting Eczema. She said our son just have a very sensitive skin, well I am expecting at least some sort of prevention tips. We really felt very bad about it and now I am looking for a new doctor again and hopefully we can find one. We or any patient don't deserve to be treated like that. If your are looking for a Pediatrician don't get her service for you will get the same treatment we got. Pros: DON'T SIGN UP LOOK FOR A NEW DOCTOR Cons: I WILL NOT RECOMMEND HER more

Was not impressed 12/15/2008

As a first time mom, I wanted the best doctor in town and thought who better than the author of Baby911. My husband and I were both extremely disappointed with Dr. Brown. From the beginning we felt as if she rushed through our appointments and questions. And often times, she acted as if our questions were ridiculous, as if we should know better (and we have read every book on babies there are). I expressed an interest in a delayed vaccine schedule and she would hear none of it. \r \r When my daughter turned a year, Dr. Brown diagnosed her as ""delayed"" because she was not yet walking or talking. I went through the steps to get an appointment with Easter Seals, then decided to get a second opinion. Our new pediatrician calmed our fears, saying that our daughter was perfectly healthy and on track. And of course, 2 months later she was walking and saying words.\r \r Overall, I disliked Dr. Brown's bedside manner. I felt that she was often rushed and cold and talked down to me and my husband. I didn't realize how much it bothered me until we switched pediatricians and found someone much warmer, friendlier and more attentive. Going to well-checks is a much more relaxed and pleasant experience than it EVER was at Capital Pediatrics. Pros: On our insurance Cons: Bedside manner, rushed and not friendly more

Great with special needs 9/6/2008

As the mother of an autistic child it was great to find a doctor who is so good with children with special needs. She was very patient and kind and made my son feel very comfortable. Doctor Brown also took the time to answer my questions and did not make me feel rushed. It was nice to find a pediatrician who really understood autism. Pros: Great with special needs children. more

Knowledgeable Informative 9/6/2008

Dr Brown is a great doctor. She was very knowledgeable and informative. She was very good with my son and he really liked her. I felt comfortable that my son was being cared for by this very competant doctor. I highly recomend her practice to anyone with a small child. Pros: knowedgeable competant informative more

Go for a cold - not an emergency - find someone who knows you and your family - not a circus with kids 7/31/2008

Before this week I would say this group was ok...tons of dr.s, tons of kids, but we always were able to see someone the same day I called when my children were sick. This week we called our Dr. for help. My husband and I were distraught and had questions - this was a REAL EMERGENCY but our Dr. had her assistant call us and told us she was busy. I would recommend this place for a simple cold/ virus - but don't go if you need help, questions, or have a serious emergency. Pros: You can always see someone Cons: They don't react well to emergency's more

Sheer Disappointment 5/22/2008

Please do not take your child to this office or you will most likely be very disappointed as well. The doctor we have seen twice is Dr. Mani. On my son?s first visit I went in to talk about taking the steps to get him diagnosed for ADD or ADHD, plus he had a regular yearly check up. The doctor recommended that I fill out some forms and have my son?s teachers do the same. These forms were supposed to be sent in to the doctor?s office to determine if he needed any testing done. \r \r First off I had filled out the papers then faxed them in (as requested by staff) and none of the staff called me to set up an appointment or anything. I had to call back a couple times to even get a response as to if I could make an appointment or not. I finally made the appointment but now I am wondering what it was all for. She asked me a few questions as she looked on the formns that I had filled out and wrote a bunch of useless notes. The doctor was supposed to call me back with some type of recommendation/referral so that I could take my son to see a neuro professional to see if he was ADHD. It never happened. I am still waiting and it has been about 4 weeks and there has been no call from Dr. Mani.\r \r The other thing that really got to me was the fact that the doctor and the rest of the staff are very uncaring. They all act like they would rather not be there or that they hate their jobs. The whole office is really just unfriendly.\r \r It?s frustrating relocating from a different state where I had great doctors for the kids then having to find a good doctor and having to deal with an office like Capital Pediatric. At this point I just really don?t know who to go to for good health care for my children. If you know of a great pediatrician please let it be known because I would hate to think that there are no good doctors here in Austin. Pros: They are in my insurance network Cons: They are not a very good office. more

Horrible Dr. Mani 3/24/2008

I have a son that has been very low on his weight for the past months, I decided to take him to a new doctor because our old provider only accepted Medicaid and we did not have that any longer. I decided on Dr Mani, reading her Bio it said she was somewhat knew of eating disorders, Long story short I told her my concerns with my 4yr old son, she said ""a child his age should be getting around 1600 calories daily, so since he only wants cereal just give him cerial 6 times a day "" My husband is a witness to this, disgusting pitiful information and help. Not to mention that the so called physical she gave him consisted in taking my sons shirt off, and scratching him while doing that, then listening to his heart than saying he was okay once again all inf from of my husband, we did contradict her a few times but there was not going anywhere with this woman. I am so crushed because my son needs help and I just have no idea on any well recommended doctors. Any help anyone?\r When I finally had enough I asked for the medical records of my 3 sons and they refused saying the Medical Records I had paid for to my previous doctor, belonged to them. & had to pay 25 each! I argued enough that they finally said okay, when I got there they had mailed them out, when I personally spoke with supervisor and was going to personallly pick then up. so they took 10 to copy them real quick. The copies given to me were so terrible and not in the order they were supposed to be. Pros: Staff Nice, Open on the weekends Cons: Terrible doctors. more

He's good, but the office lacks 6/4/2007

Dr. Hughes is an ok doctor. He doesn't go overboard on friendly, but gets the job done efficiently, and without rushing you. The staff on the other hand is horrible! I go to the Duval office, and whoever answers the phone is not usually very pleasant. The nurses are by far the worst part of the entire experience. They always seem annoyed, they never try to ease my sons fears (he's 2 1/2), and when they give shots they are so unfeeling about it it's ridiculous. It is because of them that I have decided to switch pediatricians. more

Not recommending Dr. Ari Brown 3/15/2007

We were not pleased with Dr. Brown at all. Our infant broke out into a horrible rash that quickly spread all over our infant's body. We brought our child in to see Dr. Brown. She looked at the rash for a few seconds and said it was baby acne. I had read about baby acne prior to the appointment and was not convinced this was what our child had. I took our baby to a pediatric dermotologist and allergist. Both of them said that our baby was having a bad reaction to the formula they were on. Dr. Brown told usat a previous appointment that our baby had a milk protein allergy and recommended that we switch from breast milk to a formula made for infants with this type of allergy. We had asked if we could try soy formula but she stated that if infants have a milk protein allergy they typically will also be allergic to soy. The pediatric dermotologist and allergist both said that the formula that Dr. Brown had us giving our child still had milk proteins in it but they were very broken down. Our child was reacting to it and the rash was the outcome. Our new pediatrician recommended that we switch to soy. Since having done so, our baby has been doing wonderfully for months since the switch and days after switching to soy the rash was gone. We do not feel that Dr. Brown took the time to really analyze the rash. The appointment was very rushed and all appointments that we had with her, Dr. Brown made us feel as though our questions were stupid. She was not a sympathetic Dr. and we always felt as though we were wasting her time with her demeanor. more

great Dr. 2/7/2007

I have been using Dr. Brown for 7 years and love her. She is friendly with me and most importantly my children ! She does not make me feel like I am rushed thru our appt. when we do get in (at times the wait is a little long) It has been a little bit harder to get into her when I call for a sick appt. (because of her book) and her being more popular with new mom and dad's , but none the less we will see another Dr in the practice (all though we like her the best) Pros: very attentive and great listener Cons: not always avail.for appt. (booked) waiting time more

will not go back 2/2/2007

Her office was not very nice or kid friendly. The staff was very grumpy and did not seem to want to be there. It all made sense once I met the doctor. She didn't listen to my complaints seriously and literally laughed in my face. You wouldn't expect this from her considering her accomplishments. more

Did not diagnose our child correctly with each symptom 11/28/2006

Dr. Brown was our baby's pediatrician until I recently switched to another pediatrician because Dr. Brown did not diagnose our baby correctly on anything. I literally had to self diagnose each thing that was wrong with our baby from thrush to acid reflux. Each time I brought my baby to see Dr. Brown, I would say what I thought was wrong and Dr. Brown waouldsay that our baby did not have what I thought was wrong. And yet, as the symptoms got worse I would return to the office and see another Dr. (because Dr. Brown was either on vacation or working at the other location) and the Dr. that I did see indeed said that our baby had what I thought she had. After speaking with a friend of mine of my frustrations with Dr. Brown, my friend said she too orginally brought their child to see her and also switched because Dr. Brown did not correctly diagnose in their case either. As a matter of fact, their child had such a bad case of reflux that it required surgery. I think Dr. Brown is more concerned about promoting her book that she co-authored or doing interviews with Rachel Ray than she is with her own patients. I have learned through this that you really have to be an advocate for your children and am glad that I have since changed pediatricians. I will say one positive note about this office and that is that they have weekend hours. Pros: Weekend office hours more
