Capital Ballroom Dance Studio

My wife and I started taking lessons a couple of months before our wedding. Three years later we are still going. We enjoyed the experience so much that we just couldn't stop. It is now our weekly date night. We love our instructor Jo. She is very professional and always tries to make our class enjoyable. The other instructor, Robert, is awesome! He and Jo have worked together to provide my wife and I a great experience. more

My then fianc?, now wife, wanted to really make sure we had a special dance for our wedding reception. We signed-up and started taking dance lessons from Capital Ballroom Dance Studio with Robert as our instructor. Robert was amazingly friendly and of course knowledgeable of what a couple needs to do to prepare to get a dance perfected for our special day. Robert listened carefully to what we wanted. I had no dance experience prior to our dance lesson. As a general rule for me, I did not like to venture onto the dance floor at any event, no matter if it were a friends wedding or a formal gala. I immediately felt comfortable by the end of our first dance lesson that I would be able to dance at our wedding and dance well. We had a song that was very special to us and we wanted to dance to it at our wedding reception. Robert identified the song would be a foxtrot dance, but the beat would need to be slowed from the original song. Robert helped us set the measure and beats to time the introduction and pick an appropriate song length to be choreographed to a sequence of foxtrot moves with elegant flares. He allowed us to bring our computer and helped us adjust the tempo with Garage band. We adjusted the song right in the studio! In addition, as the event was getting closer, we videoed our dance to make sure we could practice at home. Robert was always courteous and professional to us and really went the extra mile to make sure we were comfortable and ready for our day. I was so excited to show my family my new talent and we had an amazing wedding reception dance, with one caveat. We didn?t do the dance exactly like we practiced. During the middle of our dance, it was clear we were not going to be able to execute our dance routine exactly as rehearsed because my wife?s dress was to long. But because Robert broke each of the moves into single segments, we immediately could improvise and change the routine. He taught us what to listen for in the song so we knew when to time where we needed to be on the floor. In the end, only my wife and I knew our dance didn?t go 100% according to plan. I credit Roberts pedagogy that allowed me to recall going back to the basic steps to complete our dance gracefully. We were so impressed with Robert, we have taken lessons for other dances including shag. I now look forward to going to dance parties as I have become really comfortable and eager to go to the Vista and continue to share a common joy for both my wife and myself. I never had a single disappointed or upset moment in this studio and highly recommend Capital Ballroom Dance Studio and Robert if you are looking for instructional dance and a great experience. more

My husband and I began taking dance lessons with Robert at Capital Ballroom Dance Studio right after we got engaged. I have always loved dancing and my husband was game to give it a shot. We started out learning the fox trot and shag. Robert choreographed a beautiful ""first dance"" foxtrot for us to do at our wedding reception. We both found him very easy to work with and he was very agreeable about changing moves around or adding flourishes that we (I) thought would look great. I have watched our wedding DVD several times and still love watching our ""first dance."" We have now been married for 3 months and are still taking lessons from Robert...we've now moved on to the viennese waltz and are loving it. Overall, we've found that dance lessons are a fantastic way to keep doing something exciting in our relationship. The lessons are also a pretty good workout. We are really enjoying being able to ""show off"" a bit at social engagements! Finally, we have had a great time getting to know Robert and think that he has been a fantastic teacher over the past year that we have known him!!! more

If I could give this dance studio a ZERO star rating, I would. My fiancé and I started taking dance lessons for our wedding. For the first couple of months, we really enjoyed the experience. Robert was amiable, accommodating, and patient. Unfortunately, our sessions were abruptly ended when Robert was demonstrating a move with a female teacher and I saw her hand graze over and behind her head. I said ?this may sound stupid, but I don?t want to mess up my hair on my wedding day.? With that, Robert?s disposition completely changed and he told the lady instructor ?I don?t give a s*!t what they do with their hands? and that he would no longer be choreographing the rest of our dance and that she would need to do it. (We had no connection with this woman.) After that, he said we should leave (an hour early) and that we could come back the following week. Robert, (owner/teacher), and Jo, (our personal instructor), have been wonderful in every aspect of our journey from wall flower to confident dancer. They have made it fun and uncomplicated, regardless of age or level, giving each student their own pace. Allowing you to learn without pressure, or without delay.
