I have 2 large breed dogs, standard poodles, one is 12 years old and one is 6. Both have been going to the Canine Clipper every other week since I got them as puppies. Grooming them is not a small task; however, as a responsible owner, I brush them every few days to keep any matting in check. You never bathe a matted dog. Bathing a matted dog just makes the situation worse, so you have to brush the coat out first.
As for cost at the Canine Clipper, I have checked around at chain stores and other private individuals who have grooming services. NOT A ONE, was less expensive; some where twice as much. As a matter of fact, in the 12 years of going to Canine Clippers, my charges have only gone up twice.
