We are a group of about 12 adults and we've camped at Huaco springs every summer for the last five years. We love the location, we camp in the same spot every year. It is right on the river and even has access to spring fed pools!! They have regular trash pick ups in the morning, Now, be aware that the store on grounds has about any thing you might need but does not stay open ALL night, though, I would think that when camping, you are prepared to be with out a 24 hour access store!! WE DID HAVE ONE MAJOR PROBLEM ONE YEAR. I have to report, we were harrassed on our July 2008 visit. I guess they were rangers (they never did properly identify themselves, even after they were asked several times if they were police, rangers or security) They showed up after hours acting like the mob!! One damanged my radio. The man in a green officer uniform did not identify who he was he simply walked up to our camp site and pushed my radio off our table and began to threaten to kick everyone out or take them to jail. Note that we had no idea what time it was fellow campers were still playing horse shoes and had radios on too. We arm law respecting citizens. My husband and 4 others in our party are a combination of Military active and retired solders. So this caused an unwanted scene of corse! One fellow camper told the green uniformed man that no one was doing anything wrong and he needed to show us some ID or he would call the police. The uniformed man became very angry but then left with aother uniformed man on what looked like a golf cart used fot hunting. We havn't had problem since and we will still return EVERY year!!! We all love it there. It has become a tradition!! Okay, so the shower reports are true but, people, please!!!! YOU ARE CAMPING!!! If you are shocked and shaken by dirt on the floor of a camp ground shower, may be you need to stay at a Holiday Inn? CAMPING ON HUACO SPRINGS YEAR NUMBER SIX COMING UP!! We arrived on a Sunday evening for an overnight visit. The property is a great location, many trees...you can camp directly by the river or away from the rustling noise of the nearby rapids. By the time we set camp and got a bite to eat it was getting late and time for a shower. Upon checkin we were verbally issued many instructions about the campgrounds, but they failed to mention we needed 'tokens' in order to shower. That in itself is a first for me, and I've been to many campgrounds in different locations throughout the country. Upon walking into the bathroom the first thing you see is the filthy floor. It's not even busy season (mid May) and you can tell it had not been cleaned in a while. It's safe to say that the campground was at less than 25% capacity. I didn't have any tokens, but decided to try each of the 3 shower stalls anyway to see if any of them worked. It would be a miracle if you could get much out of either of the 3 stalls as the faucets were all horribly loose and in extremely poor condition. We drove the entire camp and found there is only 1 bathroom for all the available sites. My wife informed me that the ladies bathroom was in similar condition, but one of the stalls had water already running. We both showered in the ladies stall. While the warm water never stopped running, it was still hard to get over the filth on the floor. There was no reachable shelf to put your soap/shampoo either. A group of 6 of us stayed there later in the week, there was 2 other people camping when we set up our tents. We checked in appx the same time the office was closing, as it was close to dark we hurried and set up our tents without exploring the restrooms. Much to our dismay, we could not use them, they hadn't been flushed in days and there were dirty clothes laying in the shower. This was both mens and womens. Went to the office as soon as this was discovered and they were closed for the night, and the emergency number to call was the local police. In the morning the gal that opened said she could not go look to see the condition of the restrooms and she could not give a refund. We then asked to speak to a manager, who was not available. On my return home, I contacted the manager both by phone and by email and shared pictures of his disgusting restrooms. I was informed he would put something in the mail. To this day I have received nothing in return, no apology, nor a discounted for a return stay or a refund. It seems to me when one stays at a camp ground besides a small piece of dirt to rent the least you should be able to expect clean restrooms. Today Oct 29 2009 the gal that answers the phone told me I should not expect the same level of cleanliness as a motel. I have pictures to document all my complaints feel free to see my facebook account and ask for them to be shared, they are SOOOOOO disgusting I will not put them on public display./ I would avoid Camp Huaco Springs at all costs!!!!!!!! when i called to book my reservation, i was told cabins were 300 a night which was too expensive for me so they offered a shelter for 125 - i wrote down all they said it came with - a/c, toilet, fridge, 6 single beds, coffee-maker, wash sink, and grill outdoors. i also asked if there was a website where i might view my choices and was told no. actually you can view them at rockinr's website, and i found that their cabins are only 180 a night, with the exception of one which is 250. we found when we arrived no grill, fridge, or coffee-maker, only a fire circle to cook in with a lot of trash on hill leading down from the shelter. to the river. i did mention to camp management that we'd picked up nearly a 30 gallon trashbag full of cans and paper from the front of our campsite, and the two cabins on either side of us were just as bad, but no one came to correct the situation, as people checked out and others checked in - the trash remained on the hill, and is possibly now floating down the river. we also found no place to recycle cans like they have on the other side of the river. i was disappointed that camp management did not offer any sort of renumeration for having misrepresented our lodgings, and that they did not appear to be concerned about the trash even though there are signs stating that this is an environmentally sensitive area. Pros: great location for river tubing, rafting, etc. Cons: grounds not well kept more

If I could I would have given this place a big fat ZERO! It is a total rip off and you should avoid at all costs! Ohh and there are nasty leeches just past the big waterfall and then you have to pay to take a shower!!! RIP OFF! Dont do it. Pros: It is pretty water Cons: EVERYTHING else! more

What an awesome camp site. Easy to get to, very organized and helpful whatever your needs are. From where to get rv parts to helping you get your canopy down in the rain. The scenery was out of this world. Beautiful cliffs and lots of trees, you are sitting on the river. What a pleasant expirence, just sit and listen to the river pass you by. The only ? I had is, they charge $25.00 a night for an extra car. The sites can easily hold two cars, I just thought it was a little steep. Overall, WOW what an awesome vacation we had!!! Definitely would recommend it to EVERYONE! Pros: Clean, organized and very beautiful Cons: the $25.00 a night extra car fee!!! more

We camped for the first time ever at Huaco Springs from 8/11/06-8/13/06 & it was awesome!!! Being new to the game & not wanting to completely rough it, we opted for the campsite with electric hookups ($30 per night as opposed to $15 per night non-electric sites)...though we only used it for a fan. Some people around us brought actual fridges! We got a site right on the water's edge & set up. It was a bit hot, being August in Texas & all, but the site was well shaded & clean. The water was awesome...not too deep, but nice & cool/luke-warm. Peppered among the campsites were porta-potties for regular needs & the shower house was a medium walk up a pretty steep hill. The shower house is set apart from everyone (I assume for privacy) but I have to admit it was a little creepy to walk there alone. The showers were reasonabley clean & HOT & cost a $1 token (bought from the camp store) for up to a 12 minute shower. Everyone who worked at this site was very nice & super helpful with directions. We tubed the Horseshoe & they even gave us directions there...to give our tubing business to someone else! Amazing!!! Overall, I would definately return to these camp grounds. We had a pleasurable experience & have tons of fond memories to look back on. Thanks Huaco Springs!!!
