Decent food, especially compared to 1/26/2012

Decent food, especially compared to Border Cantina or other franchised Mexican restaurants. Service is usually VERY lousy. more

YUCH! 6/7/2010

Admitted that chips & salsa are good, service is decent. However, the entrees are overcooked. No way is this Mexican food comparable to what you get in Mexican Village in Detroit. Also, you definitely won't get a buzz off the Margaritas at this restaurant -- teguila is barely perceptible. Pros: Good chips & salsa Cons: Service, entrees more

Best Mexican Around!! 3/1/2009

This is by far the BEST mexican around. Forget about driving to Detroit for Mexican Village simply stop by Camelia's. To start with the chips and salsa are to die for. They always are hot and crunchy and the hot and I can't live without their salsa. I eat here at least 3-4 times per week. The staff is so freindly and you really get that home feeling. The enchaladas are amazing if your looking for healthier food they have a mexican kababob which is big enough for two. Great prices even better portion sizes! You can't go wrong and they also have really really good drink specials! You might even have to buy some salsa and take it home!!! more

Great food and great prices, a necessity in this economy. 2/28/2009

Best Mexican in Michigan as far as I'm concerned. I moved here from california about five years ago and have tried many Mexican restaurants in Detroit and the metro area. Camelias is the best, comparable if not better than California. I saw other reviews about the service and I have to disagree. I was there friday night and it was jammin yet my service was not lacking and my food came out timely. Beware of the strawberry chimi cheesecake its addictive. Pros: Not a Chain everything made from scratch. Home cookin. more

very much improving... 8/29/2008

Okay, so I have been going to this restaurant ever since they were in the plaza next door. Of course, they had a couple of things they needed to improve on but I have always loved the food. Lately it seems that the service is improving and the wait for dinner has been cut shorter. I have heard that their new management is really focused on building up the business and that any comments were appreciated. Its sad to see other people have such a bad experience there when I have had great service in such a long time. It is also true that the service was slower although last Sunday was very busy and I fell I left in record time. As far as i'm concerned, my visits have been great and if they are already focused on improving, I will keep recommending this place. Pros: Chips and salsa are great. Desserts are delicious. They have like 15 margarita flavors!!! Cons: Food was taking a bit long awhile back. I think the have a new system though. more

Best Mexican Around! 8/7/2008

You will not find better salsa anywhere. It's loaded with fresh ingredients and lots of garlic! All the food is fantastic! Some items can be on the greasy side because they use loads of cheese, but that's what Mexican is all about! I recommend anything with chicken, it's not greasy and it's shredded and spiced so well. Their service is pretty SLOW though, so if you're going plan to be there a while and wait, but it's definately worth it. Pros: Best salsa ever! Cons: Service is VERY SLOW more

Horrible Service 6/27/2008

I went to this place twice. The first time it took about 2 hours to get through our meal because we waited over an hour for our entrees. They were busy! So, we decided to give it another shot after waiting several months for them to get their act together. I still waited a long time for refills on beverages, salsa and service. I ended up finding a piece of thin plastic in my enchilada as well. Almost like a sliver of plastic similar to the texture and density of the plastic bag bread comes in? After that I was done! I won't go back. Their salsa is awesome though. I will miss it! Pros: Salsa, Food Cons: Carelessness of foreign objects in food and service more

Leaves much to be desired 3/28/2008

I tried Camelias for the second time yesterday. The first time was on a Friday night at dinner and it was so packed, it took us nearly 2 hours to get through dinner. We repeatedly had to ask for our waiter, for refills and for more salsa since we waited over an hour for our dinner. \r \r Last night we tried it, it was Thursday evening and much less busy. The service leaves a lot to be desired. They typically seem preoccupied with more important customers, or friends, I couldn't tell. It almost feels like waiting tables is butting in to their personal time and it is bothersome to them to work. The service wasn't nearly as bad as the first time though. The food was good. The salsa and chips are amazing! The best around. The beans are also fantastic. I had a combo plate #1, ate 1/2 and brought the other half to work today for lunch. In my tamale today I found a long sliver of plastic? Like part of a plastic bag, in the meat of the tamale. I was totally grossed out and dumped the rest. \r \r The restaurant really needs to get their staff some customer service training and reinforce that having a job is a privilege and they should have some pride in what they do and try to do it well. As far as the tamale, I don't know how that happened, but if you don't have good service, at least having amazing food, and it wasn't. Pros: Salsa and Chips are amazing Cons: Plastic in Tamale and Poor Service more

Surprisingly Good Mexican Food in Farmington 2/14/2008

Food was excellent, the service was fine and they had a margarita special that was a great margarita for a reasonable price. more

Great Mexican Food! 12/27/2007

Camelias has always been one of my favs, and now they've moved into a newer and much nicer, cleaner location, and have full bar, it's my absolute local Mexican fav restaurant.\r \r Hubby LOVED the chunky beef burrito (wet), and I love the Mexican Pizza! I also have tried the combo plate, and enjoyed it thoroughly. The rice and beans I usually do not eat, but these are both very tasty to be sure!\r \r The service could be better, but I'd rather have mediocre service, and great food, than vice versa! Pros: Excellent tasting food Cons: lacklustre service more
