Food is superb. We love this place. It's great for the family or a lunch meeting or dinner.

By far the best restaurant we have been to on our visit. The food was superb and we did not feel out of place in sandals, t-shirt and shorts. Try the conch more

Don't judge a book by its cover. Not the best curb appeal, but this place has some of the best seafood in town. Fresh fish, great staff. My favorite was the Shrimp with the West Indian BBQ sauce. more

Truly great seafood. We shared grilled conch and grilled octopus (or was it squid?) for lunch, and I was really blown away by the freshness and flavor. Planning to return for dinner! more

Stop by during lunch and the food is good. Huge selection and the portion size is filling. Will be back if in the area. more

Usually very very good! Don't care for the crab cakes.....they need to use mire of a lump crab to suit me, however the soups and desserts are out of this world. I recommend getting dolphin or the fish and chips. more

Great seafood and atmosphere for a casual dining! Will be back next time we are in the area. The Roti was bigger than we have been served in the VI. more

Check this one off the list as lesson learned. It is not the quality seafood I am accustomed. This place has been on my travel list for some reason ($40 a day or DDD). Anyway, don't waste your money. No flavor, unless you count the char flavor of the rice. Just nasty. more

Menu is seafood oriented but quite diverse, Go for the Calypso Cutter (sandwich) or the Shrimp and Scallop burger. I had the white bean and smoked pork soup (yum) and the Calypso Cutter with a 24oz. Sam Adams. Wait staff was very pleasant, attentive and quick. Highly recommend this for a quick bite to eat. Don;t miss it when you're in South Florida. more

Do you ever walk into a place and just start feeling good once you are inside. Man it never fails every single time I walk in this joint I get a smile on my face because I know I'm about to have the best jerked food and curry/fries in Broward County. Sorry Frog and Toad:( \r \r I say hello to Chuck who owns the place with his wife Laura. Solid guy who is always real friendly. I settled in with a nice schooner of Miller Lite, look at the specials on the board and promptly order a Jerked Wahoo Cutter with fries and a side of curry. After some small talk with our server Julio and Chuck, my food arrives.....damn I feel good:) I take a nice big bite of my cutter and the spice/heat/flavor is so wonderful that I close my eyes and thank God for allowing me to drive from Coral Springs to Pompano to enjoy this meal:) As I take my second bite a piece of my wahoo falls on the floor...WTF are you F'ing kidding me, SOB, you mother F'er, dammit, is the only thing I could say. I look at my wife and we start laughing. Chuck looks over and asked what happen and I told him part of my cutter fell on the floor, but I told him I was fine...but I was lying...LOL I was dying a slow death inside. So I dive into my fries and curry to ease my pain..ahhhhhh God does love me again:) Next thing I know Chuck is standing next to me with another piece of fresh Jerked Wahoo and says, " Here, this is how we roll at Calypso." Man, how solid is that! \r \r I end my update by saying, you are a crazy fool if you don't try this restaurant once in your lifetime. Remember to tell Chuck and Laura that Dan sent you and Stay Hungry! more

Listened to the reviews and went with family of 4 children. \r Good food. Very flavorful. Only complaint was I guess the waitress thought we wouldnt be good tippers. She went to table next to us 7 times in between our 2 stop bys. When I told her we were 1st time out of town guests she just said oh and asked what we wanted. \r \r So other than the service good food. Pricey but good. more

Calypso does not ever disappoint. It is a great local joint and a tremendous place to take out of town visitors. No one I know has ever had a bad dining experience. I could eat the Calypso Cutter every day and never tire of it. The greatest seafood sandwich ever created ! Awesome staff and a great atmosphere. more

Great food! Great staff! And most of all Great Owners! Very fresh seafood, always a great night. I have not ever been disappointed! Love the "Special shrimp & scallop burger"! more

Editorial review from Urbanspoon 8/27/2010

Very pricey, but my scallops were extremely fresh and large, not bay scallops. I love them both, but my scallops were bigger and perfectly seared on the outside and juicy in the center. more

This place is a true hidden gem in Pompano. They are so good that they don't even need to open on weekends... The seafood is so fresh and delicious, we are always very pleased with every item from their menu. The sauce on their 'West Indies BBQ Shrimp' makes you want to lick the plate. I usually taken out-of-state coworkers there for dinner and they always want to come back to South Florida soon so they can go to Calypso. more

Editorial review from Urbanspoon 1/20/2010

Always an incredible meal at a reasonable price. Atmosphere is a store front space. Cute but not elegant. Food is so good. Definitely should try this restaurant. more

My family has been a long time fan of this operation... and I went on Channel 2 in Miami (Check Please South Florida) to toot it's horn. I'll do the same here. This restaurant offers three really important things and brings them to the table every time we visit - great food, relaxed and friendly surroundings, and really nice owners who clearly care a lot about their customers's dining experience. What more does the casual diner need? Oh - maybe a great beer selection and a really friendly wait staff.....\r \r Give this place a try for reasonably priced, fine tasting seafood and other Caribbean specialties. If you don't live too far away - I predict that you'll soon become one of Calypso's regulars.\r \r Kick back - enjoy ! more

I have been going to this place since they were located next to the long gone Drivers License place were I took the test to get my license at 16 lol. Same great food and awesome service. I love ANY of the fresh fish sandwiches or cutters as they call it " jerked style" with fries and a side of curry. I love to dip my fries in the curry and their jerk seasonings are nice and spicy. The way it should be. Also, I love the Calypso Cutter, which is a hollowed out kaiser roll stuffed with shrimp, mushrooms, and melted cheddar cheese. To this day, I have not been to a restaurant that makes this sandwich. \r \r When you look up the word, CLEAN, there is a picture of Calypso or at least there should be lol. This place is clean and bright. Not to sound weird, but whenever I go into the bathroom I always marvel on how clean it is. That ladies and gentlemen is a good sign the kitchen is clean too:) Ask anyone in the restaurant field.\r \r The only downside to Calypso, and I know this is a sore subject for the owners and the customers, is they are CLOSED ON WEEKENDS. I never heard of a restaurant doing this and I was pissed when they started this schedule. I used to go on Saturdays and Sundays all the time. I really like the owners ( I'm not personal friends with them) so if they can survive with that schedule, then God bless them. I would do it too...lol.\r \r Remember to tell them that Dan sent you for a side of curry with your fries and Stay Hungry! more

I raved in an earlier review. That still stands, the place is great. But, inexplicably, it is closed on weekends! So be mindful of this important piece of information. more
