Great Authentic Polish Food 9/25/2008

Great classic dishes include Borscht soup and potato pancakes with applesauce. But Cafe Polonia also offers American basics like the Caesar salad. They have good service, but it can be crowded around holidays. The employees speak both English and Polish. Across the street is the European Baltic Cafe, which is a great little grocery store to pick up ingredients to cook the same Polish delicacies as Cafe Polonia. Pros: Very good service. Cons: Not enough seating. more

Best Authentic Polish Food 3/21/2008

Cozy atmosphere, pleasant service and terrific food make this a great local place. My grandparents (on my mother's side) were from Poland and I've grown up cooking all types of polish food. This restaurant is the real deal! I took my mom and her sister there this past summer and they loved it. more

Great food, except... 2/10/2007

I ordered the pierogi and my boyfriend ordered the beef tripe soup. I wholeheartedly enjoyed my meal (I grew up with a Polish mom, and the pierogi I ordered was almost as good as hers). My boyfriend thought the food was good until a couple hours later he got severe food p o i s o n i n g and ended up in the hospital. He refuses to ever go to Cafe Polonia ever again. Oh well. Pros: great pierogi Cons: see review more

Great Restaurant 3/17/2006

I come here about once a month. Like the other reviewer, I came on a busy night (the place is tiny) and was told to wait 20 minutes. I ended up waiting an hour and a half and not eating there that night. Although I was upset about this, I had to realize that this is a popular place and you risk not getting a table unless you make a reservation on certain days. However, I gave it a chance and I always return. The food is excellent. The service is excellent and reasonably priced. Its a great restaurant more

The Polish food I've been waiting for 3/8/2006

The only Polish food in Boston is, thankfully, excellent--better than Polish restaurants I've tried in New York, and better than many in Poland as well. I had the herring appetizer, which was perfect, and the golabki (stuffed cabbage), which were excellent as well. I brought friends who had never tried Polish food before, and they enjoyed it as well. Also, our waitress was very nice and very helpful Pros: great food, nice staff, close to red line Cons: cheesy decorations more

Major Disappointment 5/5/2005

I went on a Friday night, the place was practically empty, got seated immediately, food was great. Gypsy pancakes were super yummy as were the peirogi and the cabbage rolls. The 2nd time around was a disaster! We walked in the server/hostess asked how many in our party, we were told ""sorry there are no tables"". Not even giving us a wait time. I asked how long for a table for 4, she looked over at a large table, spoke to them in a foreign language, then told us it would be 10 or 15 minutes. When the table cleared, people who came in after us were seated at that table and we were told there were several people ahead of us. What happened to 10 or 15 minutes?? We left, we'll never eat there again, which is very dissapointing, the food was excellent . Good for takeout, maybe. Pros: Food Cons: disorganized, long wait to be seate more

Homey quality 3/9/2005

Tried the wines , frrom Croatia, white and red, which were surprisingly good. The salmon with caviar(red), may be the best buy in Boston. Pork al Krako and goulash with crepes were more than generous in quantity and prepared with care with wonderful sides of mashed poatoes, slaw and beets and cucumber saladThe evening compares favorbly with ANY place in Boston( and although from Ala , we visit often), and definitely a bargain.Yhe neighborhood was worrisome in appearance, but once all the young people came in, we felt comfortable.. Pros: Quality, Quantity, Divrsity Cons: Location more

Like Home Away From Home 1/23/2003

I have been looking for a Polish restaurant in the Boston area for a while and to finally have one open is great. I was able to taste home cooked meals with a different touch to them and I did get enough of my share for the money. I really enjoyed dinning there, truly like being home away from home for me.
