Best Indian In Sugar Land 5/3/2012

This has to be my favorite restaurant in Sugar Land. I agree the atmosphere is laking a bit, but Im sure thats because it's often empty. I believe people so as I do, which is take away. But regardless of wether you are wanting take-away, to dine in, cater, or have a party, this has to be hands down the yummiest place in town. The portions are fabulous, the owner is super sweet, and most of all, the food is amazing. A must try as you will come back again and again. more

Cafe India Sugar land 1/15/2012

This is under the 3rd Management and The Best Food rating of all to compare with the two previous owners. I have been reading the bad reviews and I have to agree with you all. Since the 2nd management I went once and never again but now since the new one I will not regret a bit and will kept continue going back over and over again for sure :) The place is really clean and the service is superb and the food is super delicious!!! A MUST try to all :) more

Extreme Dissappointment 5/12/2011

I lived in Sugar Land for many years and moved away about 6 years ago. Today I was in Sugar Land and thought how great it would be to visit Cafe India again. About 10 years ago I was a regular visiting Cafe India about twice a week. My expectations were set by my history with Cafe India. When I walked in I started to turn around based on the looks of the place. My old Cafe India was clean, neat, bright and welcoming; today's Cafe India is the total opposite. But I had to try it for old time's sake. Boy was I surprised!!! The food on the buffet was horrible; the tandori chicken was drier than shoe leather and about as tasty. The saag was soggy and runny, not to mention tasteless; you had to add the paneer from a bowl sitting on the ledge of the buffet. The dal had very little flavor and was like a runny liquid. The rice was clumped and had no spices. The best thing on the buffet was the alloo. The Murgh Tikka Masala didn't taste like any I had ever had before (and I've eaten it at about every Indian restaurant in the Houston area), it tasted like tobacco without the rich tomato creaminess I've become accustom to. Once seated they brought out garlic naan once seated, it was hot and tasty; one of the limited bright spots of the meal. No Bhajiya but HUGE Somosa stuff with about a half of potato. In summary the food looked like it was left over from earlier in the week, what should have been moist was dried out, and the vegetables were all runny and had too much oil or grease. Needless to say that was my final visit to a dear old friend. Without a doubt the ownership/management has changed since my regular visits back 7-8 years ago. There are too many GOOD to GREAT Indian restaurants in the Sugar Land area to waste your time with Cafe India. May she rest in peace.... more

Worst Catering for a Party 4/23/2010

We planned the party for around 90 people recently. We reached at around 6:30 in evening and here are the ordeal we went through: a. When we asked for the stage lights, there was no one to help us. Whoever we spoke wit said that he/she was temporary there and no idea how the things work. b. Microphone didn't work for the entire duration and again no one to help. There was no one even to take complain. c. The AC was never switched on even after several requests. d. The dessert got over while only a few folks (Around 50-60) had eaten. The total count was communicated well in advance but I don't know how the caterer messed it up. e. Overall, I would go with just one star for the real bad experience the part left in our mouths. Please stay away from this place if you are planning for a party. Pros: Stay Away if you are planning for a Party Cons: AC Not working, Microphone Not Working, No one available more

Makes me say Ummmmm. 1/27/2008

I noticed there hasn't been a review of this restaurant in a long time. I would like to update - tell everyone that this is a great place for outstanding Indian food. I can honestly say that I have never had anything here that wasn't fresh and delicious. We had usually been going to India's on Richmond, but when we discovered this little restaurant so much closer to home, it is pretty much of a regular dining spot for us now.. The lunch buffet is my favorite. THis is the only place I ever eat where every bite is accompanied by UMMMM. I would recommend it to anyone without hesitation. In fact, we are bringing a couple of friends here next Sunday after church to introduce them to Indian cuisine.\r Pros: great food more

Good Curry Option for Sugar Land area 6/11/2007

Fairly extensive Menu ; lots of Chicken, Lamb, and Vegetarian choices. Our group of 4 had Chicken Jalfrezi, Chicken Korma, Paneer Makhani, and Chana Masala ( some of these asked to be prepared Hot, and Medium Hot ) and everyone was very satisfied with what they got. Portions are sensible; as are the prices. Service was good. Parking is not a problem. Never been to Cafe India previously, but will hopefully return in the near future. more

The Best Indian Food in Houston 1/16/2003

We have tried a lot of Indian food restaurants in Houston and this is the best - hands down. The lunch buffet is a huge bang for the buck - the selection isn't enormous, but the quality is outstanding, and the selections change from day to day. The tandoori is outstanding as are all of the meat selections. The spice is not overwhelming, but provides a canvas for the art of preparing this genuine Indian cuisine. The vegetables and rice are to die for. The long time owners are more than accomodating and so personable. This small local restaurant, which has changed locations witihin Houston throughout the last 20+ years, is truly a hidden gem. more
