First read about the Cafe in a Delta Magazine. Months later I was surfing the web for ""news"" and a ""flamingo protest"" on Baltimore court house lawn popped up. The cafe sounde...

Trying TOO hard to be kitschy and for what you get, I would consider this not a good value. It's a tourist trap! Pros: Interesting Decor Cons: expensive

Quirky Hampden Restaurant 4/15/2006

This is a quirky little restaurant in Hampden - think mismatched silverware, plates and chairs with formica tables and you get the picture. The food is tasty, but I would suggest sticking with the breakfast menu. Lunch offerings are generally so-so. The restaurant is a slice of John Waters' Bawlmer. more

Used to be very good 4/8/2006

Cafe Hon was good when it first opened but lately the food has gone downhill. I went there recently with a group and most of us were not very pleased with what we ordered. I had a chicken salad sandwish that was no different than something I'd pick up at the supermarket. The service was on the slow side, too. I got the feeling that they are now coasting on their "hon" image but that's not enough for me. more

Cafe Hon 2/28/2006

Café Hon is a quirky and kitschy restaurant in Hampden. I've only been there once, but it only takes one trip to realize it's a one-of-a-kind place, from the church pew seating to the tea cup chandeliers hanging from the ceiling. Food is quite tasty, especially the enormous breakfasts. I suggest trying any of the omlettes. more

Wanna a warm-up, hon 2/4/2006

Cafe Hon (pronounced hun) is an eclectic diner/coffee shop in the heart of Hamden. In addition to the colorful decoration and kitschy surroundings, the food is very good; I especially recommend the Mexican omlette. Prices are reasonable, but not extremely cheap. Overall, it's a great place for Sunday brunch or a hearty dinner. more

A Baltimore Classic 2/1/2006

Cafe Hon is a cute cafe with a lot of local Baltimore character. They have a decent brunch and lunch menu served daily. Prices are a little bit steep for brunch, but the food is very good and I've always found it worthwhile. The atmosphere is very kitschy, like the Hampden neighborhood in which it is located--my favorite part is the tea cup chandeliers. And the large flamingo on the outside of the building that is displayed from time to time. more

fun place 9/25/2005

Cafe Hon is named for the trademark pet name for everyone in Hampden. When you are served, expect to get attentive service with a homey style. Meals are very down home. You can actually get meatloaf sandwich or grilled cheese for lunch or dinner. As far as local cuisine goes, it is fair, but people watching makes it fun. more
