Unsanitary/Bad Service 3/29/2009

So, we had gone to the Lucy exhibit as well and had worked up an appetite. We wandered over to this cafe only to be EXTREMELY disappointed. First of all, although there were not many people in the cafe, we had to wait several minutes before even being acknowledged by the three people standing behind the counter. The person that ended up helping us was very clumsy. Something was a little 'off', as it took him three tries to get our order straight, and he had a hard time counting the right change as we paid. AWKWARD! I ordered a lunch crepe and a cafe mocha. As I watched them prepare my food, I noticed the cook did not wear gloves most of the time, and there appeared to be other people behind the counter picking at the food with bare hands as well ...GROSS!!! Also, the coffee was very lackluster in taste and preparation. I watched the barista handle the espresso machine in an extremely unsanitary fashion...she dumped out the spent espresso by hitting the coffee holder several times on the inside lip of the garbage can behind her. She then turned around, and WITHOUT cleaning the thing, put fresh ground espresso into it. I could see brown streaks on the inside of the garbage can, which looked like it was from 1972. DISGUSTING. By the time we finally got our food it wasn't very hot. The silverware was spotty and had dried, crusty food on it, so I ended up having to ask for plastic utensils instead. By this time, my appetite had pretty much disappeared. I wanted to demand my money back but did not want to deal with the slow grease ball behind the counter again, who was in desperate need of a breath mint as well. This place is just waiting to get shut down. Don't waste your time and money here! Even McDonalds is far superior to this dump! Pros: ? Cons: Here we go.... more

Friendly Staff and Great Food! 3/16/2009

Stopped in for an Espresso and left there after having a Great Crepe to go with my coffee.. Yum! Great place to sit for a while or stop for a quick drink. There were others that were reading the paper I noticed as I waited for my drink. The staff is very friendly and quick. I had a banana and nutella crepe which was wonderful... as I just stopped by for a coffee, but I saw a crepe being served and I decided to have one too. I will for sure stop by again for more of the same... Pros: Wonderful Espresso and quick Food! more

Very disappointing 10/12/2008

Three of us recently chose Cafe Darclee as a meeting place and lunch spot because of its proximity to an exhibit we were attending at the Pacific Science Center. We were all very disappointed. Except for the initial delivery of food to our table, table service was virtually nonexistent. We had to go up to the counter several times in order to complete our order, get coffee refills, and pay our bill (maye it's supposed to be cafeteria-style?), and we had to wait a good while each time in order to get anyone's attention. The food was lackluster in terms of quality and price. We all ordered a panini with a small side of uninteresting salad greens, and a small bowl of soup. The bill with coffee drinks was nearly $50 for three of us. By the time the soup, panini, and coffees were served, they were all barely warm. The goat cheese and mushroom panini was mostly bread and very bland in flavor, possibly because it included only the most skimpy amount of goat cheese and mushrooms. The small side of salad greens included quite a number of rotted, slimy greens and had barely a 1/4 teaspoon of vinagrette dressing drizzled on top. We were definitely not impressed, and wished we had chosen someplace else to meet for lunch. We really enjoyed the Lucy's Legacy exhibit though, and we highly recommend that! more

Met expectations 6/13/2008

I've had better, and I've had worse. For being a pioneer in the creperie circuit here in Seattle, I think Cafe Darclee is a fine spot for a well made crepe with a contempo spin. I worked with the owners to throw a small party at Darclee, and they were very inviting and flexible. I was surprised, at my first visit, to find the space as small as it is, but we were accomodated to the best of their ability. I find it odd that another review said there was no liquor license....as we had the choice of several cocktails when I was there. I've had every crepe this town has to offer, and although I still prefer the creperies in Paris, Darclee makes my tummy happy. more

A little disappointed 2/19/2008

When I got a craving for crepes while in Seattle for the weekend, I found Cafe Darclee listed in a restaurant guide and we headed over after dinner. To our disappointment, they had already closed (it was 9:00). We came back the next day to an empty restaurant, which was a shame because the ambience was quite nice, and the women running the restaurant were very friendly. Pros: Ambience, service Cons: High prices/average quantity more

Not that romantic 1/20/2008

After reading the great reviews, I decided this would be the place to celebrate my first birthday in Washington. I was looking for a hip, upbeat, romantic restaurant. My husband and I made reservations to ensure us seating, since the reviews said it is quite a busy place. We were quite pleased to find parking right across from the restaurant. As we walked up to the restaurant, we could see through the windows there weren?t any other customers. We weren't sure they were even open. We went in and were promptly seated, obviously being the only couple there. I really didn't find the atmosphere very romantic. It wasn't dimly lit and there wasn?t a candle in sight. The menus were printed on folded paper. I ordered a Panini that was quite bland. We decided to stay for dessert because of the great reviews. We had the banana & nutella filled crepe. It was very good; I was however disappointed I couldn't have a glass of wine with it due to the lack of a liquor license. I would recommend this place as a great place to have lunch but not as a place for a romantic birthday dinner. Pros: Parking, Service, Prompt seating, Cons: Not romantic, cocktails not available more

Best place ever seen in Seattle!!!!!!! 7/15/2007

I finally had the chance to dine at the esteemed Cafe Darclee and now I understand what all the fuss is about. Given its reputation for culinary excellence with a price to match, I was expected more pretense. more

Slowest service I have ever received 6/10/2006

I went to this restaurant for lunch on a weekday. We seated ourselves, our order was taken in a fairly quick manner. Then half an hour passed before the drinks and salad that we ordered arrived. Another 20 minutes passed and when we went to check on the food as I was running out of time we were informed that it was ready. Another five minutes and the food had still not arrived, at this point we asked for it to be boxed up and for our check. No apology was made for the slowness of service at any time, nor was there ever any offer of compensation. I can't actually rate the food aside from the salad as I didn't get a chance to eat it. Don't go unless you have alot of time to wait for food that is cooked faster at many other locations in town. more

You HAVE to check this out!!!! 4/9/2006

Last weekend I had the best crepes ever. La Bergere crepe amazed me with the freshness of basil and fresh mozzarella, very nice and light! After having the delicious savory crepe I couldnt resist the dessert. A wonderful server recommended the Crepe Suzette. Unbelievable!!!! You cannot imagine what an orange and a lemon can do to a crepe. Believe me you have to try this out. Those people know what they are doing. Pros: Great food, Relaxed atmosphere, great service Cons: Can be very busy more

Light French Cuisine in Shadow of Space Needle 2/18/2006

Café Darclée is the place if you're looking for crepes, both savory and sweet, in Seattle. Located just across the street from the Space Needle, in Fisher Plaza, you'll find a refreshing blend of contemporary design, delicious food, and old world charm with a staff that makes you feel truly welcome. My favorite so far is the ""A L'ercolano"" sans the Prosciutto for the main course, and the ""La Deauville"" for desert. Yum! A good selection of wine by the glass rounds out a great dinner or lunch. Don't try the hot chocolate, unless you're planning to return often. It's out of this world. Still hungry, take home some French treats you won't find anywhere else. Enjoy good company with soft music and candlelight, or sit outside in the courtyard on warm days. Bonus: Free WiFi. Pros: great food, great service, very unique Cons: easy to miss location more

Delicious food in a friendly atmosphere 1/9/2006

I absolutely love the food at Cafe Darclee! It's rare to find a place that has such amazing food and a nice staff. I have yet to be disappointed in any of the crepes (I'm currently going down the menu, trying each one!) and I love feeling like I'm in a family restaurant. I will admit that service is sometimes slow, but it's usually because there's a line of people ordering and they're actually cooking each crepe as you wait (Good food takes longer to cook :) and I've found that calling ahead to place your order works every time! Also, I love that they sell Ritter Sport Bars...my favorite is the Dark Chocolate with Hazelnuts! more

Overrated 10/4/2005

Ok, so I've been to Paris & eaten plenty of crepes all across Europe including trying them here in Seattle at other establishments. I read the wonderful reviews of this cafe and convinced 5 girls to go for breakfast after a long morning of bridesmaid dress shopping. Ok, decor is cute, but it was totally cold inside, we all left our coats on for the entire 2 hrs. we were there. It took them 1.5 hrs. to serve us. A couple arrived after us, were served, & left already by the time our food arrived. I tried to keep a positive attitude about the ""gourmet"" ingredients another reviewer raved about. Yum, Emmenthal cheese & roasted yellow peppers. My crepe arrived greasy & the peppers were bitter. All around a lame experience. This is not the little european jewel you're looking for. Its more like a tourist trap in Fisher Plaza. more
