Though we have lived in PBG for several years we have never dined at the Cafe Chardonnay, Word of mouth recommendations were mixed, and even those who liked it seldom made it a regular dining stop. But when we received an e-mail offer for a $35.00, 4 course meal, it was time to give it a try. Realizing that you only get what you pay for made this an OK deal, but allowed us to scan the regular menu and get a feel for his place. \r
Writing a menu is an art in itself, and CC has it down to a science. In a menu that featured "local sweet corn" I found exactly 13 kernals mixed in the puree that was supposed to be sweet potatoes. The salad was a mixture of left over leaves of one sort or another. But the pork chop was thick, tasty and satisfying. The desert portions were more than adequate.\r
CC is attempting to imitate its more talented bretheren in Palm Beach and it misses by just a little bit. For locals who don't want to make the drive, it can find a niche in their dining agenda. But it gives just a little less than it proposes and charges just a bit more than it should.
