NW Indiana's Attempt on Good Food 6/12/2010

The owner and the food was awful. I would NEVER recommend this place to a friend. When my friend complained about her dinner (we aren't sure what type of meat was brought to our table - but it was not what was ordered) the waiter as well as manager/owner had absolutely no recourse for her. It was "too bad - pay for your over priced meal and leave". Horrible experience!!! Pros: Location Cons: Food more

Would NEVER eat here again! 8/22/2009

Despite all the raving reviews for Cafe Borgia in Munster, Indiana, my experience there was one of the worst dining moments ever! I'm sure they may have many dinner offerings that are delicious but my order was not one of them. After 2-3 bites, I informed my waiter that I could not eat the smoked chicken with rigatoni as it was too overwhelming in smoked taste and salt. I asked if I could please select another entree to which he replied "no". He said it is the policy of the restaurant that if you do not care for your order, there are no substitutes. I asked him to call over the owner hostess and she informed me of the same. She even went on to say, "if everyone came in here wanting to just sample the food we would go out of business!". I was shocked and have NEVER encountered an answer like this at any fine dining restaurant. They kept asking if I wanted to take the dish home and I continued to reply "if I liked it I would eat it!" She then proceeded to walk away from the table in complete arrogance. The waiter brought us the check and was charged for the full amount. Their posted philosophy is "The customer if King". This customer was treated like a peasant and will never come back here again and will be sure to let all know of this experience! PS: The portions are ridiculously small and the menu is overpriced! Pros: NONE Cons: TERRIBLE customer satisfaction! more

Editorial
  • The Scene
Cafe Borgia is surprisingly small, but the intimacy is conducive to conversation and full enjoyment of beautifully prepared Italian treats. Fastidious attention is paid to details, from the immaculately attired and attentive staff to the little loaves of thinly sliced bread served with whipped butter.

    The Food
The menu first lists "with bread" dainties such as fontina cheese and olive oil or sun-dried tomato pesto. More substantial appetizers follow and include several seafood delights (mussels marinara, grilled shrimp and pan-fried scallops), carpaccio (charred raw beef tenderloin served with lemon caper vinaigrette) and grilled eggplant. Pasta choices include mostaccioli casserole and an intriguing fettuccine salmon (fresh salmon and scallions in lemon dill cream). Entrees include stuffed eggplant, chicken Vesuvio, beef braciola, stuffed chicken breast, roast lamb shank or grilled pork chops.
