Decided to try here for lunch with a friend, and ordered the Happy Family Lunch, Sesame Balls, Ginseng and Honey Iced Tea, and a Red Bean Boba tea. With lunch, we got the hot and sour soup. The Happy Family itself was fantastic - tender, perfectly cooked chicken, rice that wasn't over-done or soggy, and a crisp, tasty egg roll. The sesame balls were a first for both of us, and a pleasant surprise, if just a little different than desserts we're more used to.
The soup and boba, however, were disappointments. I'd never tried boba tea, so maybe it wasn't my style, but it was very bland, and the "bobas", or gargantuan tapioca-style beads made the texture bizarre, without actually adding anything to the drink. The soup was the first hot and sour I've ever not liked. The mushrooms were very obviously rehydrated, and I doubt they were rinsed after being rehydrated. Because of this, the whole thing had a musty taste. Overall, I'd try Cafe Ambrosia again.
