I learned about The Samaritan house when I went to a friend?s birthday brunch at Cafe 458, the weekend brunch part of The Samaritan house, and came back to volunteer as a server a couple of weeks later at Cafe 458. This is a hoppin place with a lot of activity. The Samaritan House has Cafe 458 during the week as an out reach to homeless men and women who are unable to work because of a disability. Cafe 458 provides a daily lunch, job readiness training, addiction counseling, help finding benefits and medical care, and case management. The Samaritan House also has the EDGE (earning dignity, gaining employment). It is a employment readiness programs that provides training classes, addiction counseling, case management, storage, showers, breakfast, and job placement. They are always looking for volunteers and donors. It?s a place that doesn?t want to perpetuate homelessness, they work to get people off the street, which is a worthy goal.
