Spend a great day in Point Loma 1/15/2006

Cabrillo National Monument commemorates explorer Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo's first landing at San Diego Bay on September 28, 1542. Cabrillo was the first European to visit what is now the West Coast of the United States. Situated on a high hilltop on the west side of the San Diego Bay, the property is popular for its city views, hiking and tide pools. Things to Do at Cabrillo National Monument include: Views: On a clear, winter day you can see downtown San Diego, Mexico and far out to sea. Whale Watching History Hiking Tide Pools more

On a clear day ... excellent views 10/23/2005

This is a great half-day trip for anyone who lives in San Diego. On a clear day you get great views, and in the winter you can catche the whale migration. Short hike down the east side of the point to the water. Friendly interpretive staff and nice little gift shop. It's a shame more people don't visit this place. more

How California got "discovered" 8/14/2005

This is one of my favorite places in San Diego, and I have visited quite a few times. Supposedly this is where the explorer Juan Cabrillo landed (first time for an European). First of all, the view here is great. You have pretty much a 360 degree view of things, including the Pacific ocean, the San Diego bay, Coronado Island. You can see downtown San Diego in a distance. For the history buffs, they have a light house that cool to visit as well as all the story behind Cabrillo. I think it's a nice place to just go sit and take in the ocean. more
