I was surprised to see this listed here. Sadly, it closed years ago. The landlord offered incentives for them to leave, in anticipation of the coming of the new Stop and Shop supermarket--the completion of which was delayed for years, so C-U's leaving as soon as they did turned out to be completely unnecessary. They could have stayed open for another two years or so without being "unwanted competition" to another tenant.
I'd gladly give up the new Stop and Shop (which may be huge, but isn't all that great) to have the old C-U back. That was a great little market, chock full of fresh produce and all sorts of specialties--particularly Asian-- you couldn't find anywhere else in town. The closing of C-U ranks right up there with the closings of Ariel Books and the Ames department store in terms of making New Paltz a little less cool than it used to be.
