Best

I have been going to Bishops on and off for what feels like forever. I have to say in the past there had been some disappointment, but lately- I have gotten some of the best hairc...

Worst

This place cloaks its mediocre services in loud music and cheap beer. Hoorray for pdx's unoriginal barbershop. Every time I get the bad idea to get my haircut here and stray from ...

See Tiffany! 3/24/2008

She gives a great cut and color. Very cool, sweet, and talented! The salon is also in a great location, and has a fun atmosphere. Pros: quality cut and color, prices, location more

Great change!!! 2/23/2008

If you have had bad experinces in the past at your local Bishiops, I highly recomend the Bishops on NW 21st. I don't know what you guys are doing their but i think hands down have the best stylist in town. I had a off the hook time in their. The vibe is high, and not to mention the phat haircut I got. Keep it rockin, fo shizzle mo nizzel, if you don't want attitude, and a layed back vibe...this is your spot. Keep it commin guys,I like the change. more

Hair apparent 12/19/2007

I had the good fortune to discover this place several cuts ago after a disastrous six months hair-hopping around town looking for a place where I felt comfortable with both my cut and the experience. I've been to places where I am surprised they don't offer to-go hats. I am always astonished at the continual miracle resting on my head after one of these stylists goes to work like Edward Clipperhands. The wait's rarely much (particularly for a place that doesn't accept appointments) and you get to sit down, have a beer, flip through a magazine and people watch while you do. The receptionist is always flying around the place, letting you know what's going on, making sure you're having a good time. And she always takes a minute to play with my kid. That makes my day. Perfect. more

Poor attention or management 9/20/2007

After dissatisfaction at the SW Columbia location, I went to Bishops on NW 21st on a busy Saturday afternoon. Waiting customers overflowed onto the hot sunny sidewalk and there was an ""hour plus wait list."" I was told if I leave and come back I?d have to call back in a half hour or be crossed off the list. Too hot outside, I took a seat at the unused sinks. After a few minutes I noticed that, since I'd come in, all but one barber chair was empty and there were no stylists at any chair! A stylist did walk by an empty seat, put her cigs in her purse, checked her own makeup and hair, and disappeared. ""How many stylists are on today?"" I asked the receptionist. ""Six or seven,"" she said. ?Six or seven?? I said. She saw me look at all the empty chairs and said, ""Well we do a lot of color."" Confused, I asked if that meant they're all somewhere else. ""Well, someone could be on break, someone might be in the bathroom..."" She trailed off. I said to take my name off the list. On my way another employee who overheard this asked my name. I replied and he chirpily said, ""Bye, Mike!"" Pros: atmosphere when they're paying attention is good, usually offer you a free beer Cons: no sense of urgency and to much color for ladies means guys wait longer for a stylist more

wow I feel hot!!! 8/26/2007

Went to Nw Bishops with my sister on Sat we thought we would give it a shot. It was great you just sign in and wait a bit and get a haircut. Nice! I got the best hair cut from Elli she helped me change my look but kept it functionable, I was totally impressed sevice was great and the hair cut was hot! Everyone in portland needs to come here. Pros: great cut free beer and no appointment needed Cons: a bit of a wait more

I found god and he is at bishops barbershop! 7/14/2007

I don't know what half the reviews on here are saying, but I got one of the best haircuts of my life over at the SW bishops. They not only listened to what I was saying, but they did more than I even asked for! I've never gotten better service. Since getting my haircut at bishops I've only gotten the best compliments on my hair. Pros: Good stylists, beer Cons: No parking, occasional long wait more

I suggest going to a super cuts before Bishops 5/27/2007

I got the WORST HAIR CUT OF MY LIFE HERE!!!! and really their pricing isn't that great. I'd rather pay the 10 extra dollars to have someone who actually knows what they are going to my hair then have some snobby 20 year old brat work on my hair . My friend suggested for me to go to Bishops for the price. and I talked to the asst. manager and asked him if he could get my hair really blonde without frying it. he said yes. AND WELL HE LIED. my hair started to fall out because of his incompentence. YEAH THANKS. instead of being intrested in making money and tips maybe you should ummm LISTEN to your customers and concerns and actually try and do A GOOD JOB. so basically DON'T GO HERE. goto Flux Salon. thats good service with well trained professional staff. they know what they're doing! Pros: they give you beer so you can get wasted as the butcher your hair Cons: bad customer sevice, bad hairstylists, pretty much everything more

Worst Haircut Ever 4/16/2007

I went into bishops wanting a simple cut, just layering of the hair with a little length taken off. I was cut by the manager who gave me a mullet like hairdo. She wet my hair down by spraying me lightly 3 times with a squirt bottle this wet one side of my hair while the other side was dry then she started chopping away. By the end of this horrific expierience I had short hair on top and a bunch of long uneven pieces on the bottom. I have to wear my hair up all the time now and some of it wont even fit in a ponytail. This butchering cost 24$ and she did'nt even brush hair off my face and arms so I walked out of Bishops with a horrible haircut, hair all over my face and was out 24 bucks. I would suggest supercuts over bishops at least they might brush hair off your face when theyre done messing up your hair. I was under the impression that the hairstylists are hired on if they have that punkrock barbie look and not for their competence in hairstyling. Seriously if you care about getting a quality haircut DO NOT GO TO BISHOPS. I would trust a random stranger more than them. Pros: at least your offered a beer to prepare for the horrible haircut that is to come. Cons: Everything, mostly the haircuts more

Worst haircut of my life 2/13/2007

I got my hair cut at the downtown Bishop's and it was the worst haircut of my life. The person who cut my hair, Lilly, was presumptuous, aggressive, and oblivious. She didn't listen to what I said or wanted. She cut my hair how she wanted to cut it. It looked horrible on me, but she thought it was great. It took me four months to grow-out her bad cut. AND she gave me the hard-sell to buy hair products there that I didn't want or need. Pros: Haircuts are inexpensive Cons: You get a really bad haircut more

Quantity, not quality. 2/8/2007

I have been to Bishops twice, and wasn't pleased either time. I am not terribly picky about my hair, I usually ask for a typical men's haircut (and am under the impression I voice my intentions clearly) but I ended up with an uneven, poorly faded cut each time. Pros: Clean, no appointment needed. Cons: See my review. more

worst hair cut ever 12/7/2006

I got the worst haircut of my life at this place. It was like the girl who was working on me was ""playing"" at being a hair stylist. The best part? Head lice. True story. more

SuperCuts that think they are hipper than SC, but NOT. 9/21/2006

I really wanted to get on thier bandwagon and I've given them way to many chances to win my affection, but sheesh, you have to finally give up the ghost and take your dignity back after so much! You can only get so far with the promise of a PBR can shrouded in personally chosen rock posters. The idea of going in whenever and getting on the waiting list was always appealing to me. I don't like to make appointments. But then waiting and waiting, and then being treated like a peice of hair-meat by the 23 -year-old inexperienced butcher with the hip tattoos and ""My parents sent me to beautyschool because that was all I could choose at the moment but I don't care about it or you, and my band has a great gig opening up for *$%^&"" mentality, ultimately tired my want. My suggestion is go to Supercuts and cut the baloney if you want the same monetary value or pay through the nose and get pampered. Dirty Little Secret is an actually hip Salon and they treat you nice. Pros: Beer Cons: Extremely random, never know what you will get skills or treatmentwise more

Great cut 9/11/2006

Let me get this off my chest: ""male pattern baldness."" Not always the most workable pattern either, but Mark at Bishops asked my preferences and then went to town. I left 15 minutes (and a couple of sips of PBR) later with one of my best cuts ever. They get you in and out, but do so without rushing customers or forsaking service. I'll shout it from the mountaintop: NICE JOB, BISHOPS. Pros: Professionalism, Creativity Cons: No local beers? Drats more

Don't go here if you want a professional haircut 8/22/2006

I have gone to bishops several times now and each time I tell myself I'm not going back. But for some reason I keep giving them another chance. Well, not anymore. I can deal with a slightly crappy hair cut, but what I got last time I went to Bishops was a complete joke. Even the girl who cut my hair seemed embarrassed afterwards. The other strange part was that she didn't even offer to dry my hair when she was done butchering it. I walked out with soaking wet hair. Normally I would have said something but I didn't because I just wanted out so bad so I could get home and try to fix my hair! Anyway, I went to a different place the next day and got it fixed. I also called Bishops to ask for my money back and got the run-around. The manager was supposed to call me back and send me something in the mail but never did. They acted like how dare I complain. If you want your hair to look like you cut it yourself, in the dark, without a mirror, then go to Bishops. But if you want a professional hair cut, then don't. It's not even that cheap anyway. Pros: beer Cons: everything else! more

nice! 3/6/2006

Toni totally saved my head! I decided to give myself a cut and came in and she got right to work on fixing what had looked like a weed wacker would have done a better job. I walked in at seven o'clock at night and the receptionist was super friendly and grabbed me a beer. Yes, they serve beer! This is going to be my new salon, for sure! Cool atmosphere, great staff, good music, and i'm going back to get my hair dyed in a couple days! I completely hooked! more

Not going back. 9/13/2005

I went here after for a bit of razoring to lighten my bangs. I had just gotten my hair cut the week before and just needed to lighten the weight of my bangs. This usually take one minute to do. I told the stylist that I wanted nothing changed. She went through this whole wet down and focused more on the left side of my head for some reason. I left with my hair still wet and did not notice till I got home that she took an inch and a half length off one side of my head!!!!! What was she thinking! I am never going back. Not to mention that I payed $10 for that lopsided disaster! I should have known when she said she just started 6mths ago. Pros: location Cons: inexperienced, too noisy, did not listen more

I love bishops! 6/1/2005

The only thing that is not good about Bishops is that they don't take appointments. Pros: cheap and good Cons: no appointments more

more skill, less attitude please! 3/31/2005

what's the big deal about this place? i gave bishops a fair shot: 3 tries, all failures... staff was okay, but they gave me possibly the worst haircuts of my life -- uneven, attempting to be cool and trendy but just bad... so much so that my next stylist (at another place) kept (politely) gawking at the butch job called my hair. save your money and go somewhere else! Pros: inexpensive Cons: long wait more

Go Here! 10/19/2003

Bishop's is a great alternative if you are tired of paying downtown prices for a great cut. I went to experience the Rock'N'Roll barbershop for the first time. I was impressed. I didn't book an appointment so I had to put my name on the waiting list. I didn't wait long, for a busy Friday night. They serve Pabst Blue Ribbon while you wait and during your services. How great it that? They play good music and the price was reasonable. The gal that cut my hair hadn't been there very long, but she was hospitable. I got a lot of compliments on my haircut, even two weeks after the fact. I am recommending to you and all my friends. It is a fun experience. Pros: environment, mixed crowd Cons: parking more

Rock on. 9/21/2003

Walk-in service, a water or beer while you wait, friendly stylists, and super-stylish cuts -- Bishops is the best. more
