This is a tiny restaurant you will not want to miss! The name, Camaje, was apparently made by putting together the first 2 letters of the 3 owners' names. What follows is a lovely little restaurant on MacDougal street with excellent food and service.
My favorite time to go is for brunch at the weekend - I have easily spent 3 hours chatting with a girlfriend while enjoying fine food, coffee, and a very relaxed atmosphere.
There is a large couch near the door where you can sit with a few friends, or grab a table behind it.
By far and away, though, one of my best experiences here was a cooking class from the owner! If you check out the website on www.camaje.com, you'll see a list of upcoming classes - grab one of your friends, it's so worth it! You take a class with about 6 other people and make several dishes - apps, main course, dessert - TIP - you will only prepare a couple of the dishes yourself, everyone splits up and prepares something, so I suggest you figure out quickly which dishes your most interested in, and jump on that team. When you're done, you sit at a big table and EAT EVERYTHING! Not only that, you get to eat it with some of their best wine, and get to know your classmates.
In the winter months - you must try the Meyer Lemon tart - it is FANTASTIC, and I was lucky enough to take the class where we made it, easy and fantastic!!
Also - for Valentine's Day, you can surprise someone with a cooked meal that you cook and serve them at the restaurant.
Definitely recommend.
