We develop wells using a cable tool rig which is an old, but effective style of drilling (pounding) and surging that, in our experience, yields the greatest results. With this method, we have been able to increase production up to 30 g.p.m. and up on wells that were not producing anything when initially completed. It typically takes us one day to develop new wells using this method, while it may take us 2-2 days to re-develop existing wells. There are many methods today for water well development and most of them use high pressure in the hopes of pushing a weak obstruction, such as a fractured rock or mineral deposits, into a larger pocket. If the fracture or pocket is the same size or smaller than what is being forced into it, these high pressure methods simply pack possible fractures full of impermeable material. Our method at C. DeWitt & Sons works by flushing out these fractures, not pressurizing them. Behind years of experience, we have found that pressurizing fractures should only be done after a well has been thoroughly surged and flushed of debris.
