Byzantium

I've enjoyed the Byzantium for years and years! The staff has ALWAYS been nice and helpful and welcoming, and I have never had any problems with them at all. Byzantium has all kinds of beads and findings and ah! it's heaven to enjoy for a beadaholic like me! more

I really like Byzantium! I never really noticed that the employees weren't very friendly. I usually just go in looking around and if I had a question they were able to help me. They seemed really friendly to me. You can spend a lot of money really quickly! Some of the beads I feel may be too expensive though they are pretty unique which is a good thing (for me anyway). If you can afford it, they have some pretty cool expensive beads that are behind the counter and all. You should check it out! more

I totally agree with some of the comments about the staff. They never come down out of their space behind the counter to help, rarely smile, and the store never has sales. I go out of my way to avoid this store. more

It is too bad that this store has piss-poor customer service. I want to support local business, but I will probably purchase beads from nice people next time. more

We had just purchased $30 worth of beads when we discovered that one of the beads was not the one we wanted. We asked to switch it with a different one (about 40 seconds after completing our purchase) and were rudely informed that that "all sales are final and you have to purchase any additional beads". That is the definition of BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE. They have nice beads and mean people. more

When my sister and I were younger we loved making beaded necklaces and bracelets. We would always go to Byzantium to buy our supplies. They have literally, every kind of bead you can imagine in every price range. This store carries all the supplies you need for working with beads. Our creativity was never limited becuase we had byzantium. I will admit that some of the really cool beads can be quite expensive, but they still have plenty to chose from without breaking the bank. As well as being able to come in and look around, you can take classes at Byzantiums teaching you things you can't learn other places! more

Wow! This store has a fantastic selection of beads for the jewelry maker -- amateur, novice or professional!! You can find some items here that you won't find in any other shop in Columbus!! The salespeople are so helpful and insightful, as well. The only draw-back is the pricing is a bit high, so it caters more to the professional jewelry-maker, because they can charge that on to the customer! more

Native and traditional adornments on one side, seed beads on the other, everything you need to make jewelry and gift items. This Short North bead store has a lot of other fun stuff in it, including those Indian tapestries everyone has to have, sisterhood greeting cards, and a lot of incense. They do a nice job of showcasing their expensive jewelry, but maybe too nice; you start to wonder where this stuff came from, and if some shady white colonialist was involved somehow. But no matter, all part of the fun! My favorite thing they have is one of those african wooden pregnant lady torso shells- you know, you strap it over your shoulders and whammo! you're a naked pregnant lady. I don't know where they came from exactly, but I want one, and that is the story of western conquest. I don't think I've ever seen a man in this store, not that they don't go, I've just...never seen one. It's fun to browse, but I try to leave before I get a splitting incense headache. more

I used to love to make beaded jewelry and this was the place to go since they have an awesome selection of beads. If you don't want to make your own, you can also buy unique jewelry here. I think it's a neat store and although they specialize in beads, they have some other unique gift and household items for sale as well. more

I am not the usual "bead" type of person but i just came in here to look around. By the look of it i guess if you are not a bead fanatic...don't bother coming in here. They mainly have beads and alot of wierd exotic things that wouldn't fit in a category. Even though i wasn't buying anything the staff were friendly. more

This place has an amazing selection of beautiful and unusual beads, as well as a large stock of the basics. They also have pretty much everything you need to make pretty much any item of jewelry you can think of, from sterling silver beaded earring wires to lobster clasps. In addition to beads, they have a number of beautiful and exotic items from around the world, like bedspreads and incense. A really cool place. more
